FF 7: Last Order

Back to The Real World.

Let me rephrase that for both of you.

X-2 is what happens when you take an already mediocre game and try to extend it, break the characters, and try to make it as different from the original game as possible.

On topic, I found Last Order to be alright. I liked the action scenes and animation, but it was kind of irritating how incomplete it felt. Like it was more of a test than anything.

Personal opinion as always, folks.

No... X-2 was what happens when you take a good game, and make a halfhearted attempt at making the story longer, while mostly ignoring the main plot, and then to add insult to injury, you take out one of the best video game composers of all time and add some really terrible pop/techno.

FFVII needs to be remade, we don't need a sequel. All we need is a graphics upgrade, because all the gameplay is solid. Could use a music upgrade as well, but only because technology allows us to create better music than the PS1 had.

We don't need an upgrade. Graphics are fine. They're not OMGWOW!!, but they're good enough. It would be cool, but nothing to prioritize or spend extra time on.
Richter2005-11-30 22:33:18
No more block hands.
Sylphas2005-11-30 23:03:10
Having to buy a PS3 and a new game. sad.gif

I dunno, I just instinctively feel like hitting things when people emphasize graphics over gameplay. More powerful system should equal better gameplay, better AI, MORE gameplay, larger worlds, more skills/characters/items, and NOT just prettier graphics. If someone did a game with PS1, or even SNES graphics, and used the space/memory they saved to make a game on par with FF6/7, but like, 20x as large, I'd be in heaven.

FFVII would be dead if there was another game exactly like it but "Better" for all the modern kids to like. It'd make all our love for the original irrelevant. The music in its retro style is bloody great, and doesnt need to be fancified. The block hands etc are a charm you live with, it's a cute looking game now.

Just imagine: Chrono Cross with CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!! frenzy.gif

Eh, I liked X-2, but I didn't go in expecting a lot. Story was okay and the new grid system wasn't half bad as people make it seem. It didn't exactly cost them a lot since the engine and world already existed. Just my opinion too though.

And Last Order is a cliffhanger because it's just a semi-prequel lead in to Crisis Core, but nothing else has been said about it yet. sad.gif

I agree. I think the remake of Wild ARMs expanded the world a bit as well as remade all of the dungeons to create a fresh environment for prior players. I'm looking forward to the day where great gameplay and graphics can be integrated into a decent, lengthy game.

And Richter, you're behiiiiiind! If I knew you liked Kingdom Hearts I would've sent you videos (With that scene you mentioned too). It's due out in.. March or earlier, according to Nomura.

A friend of mine should have finished Wild Arms: Alter Code F very recently. He seems to enjoy it a lot, but the game is pretty weak as far as remakes go. The graphics are very nearly high end PS1 I swear, not PS2. Voice acting is very meh. Music was changed, and we lost the overworld theme (my favorite track in that game). There were improvements of course, but I'm not sure they justify buying the game.

For the record, I didn't like FFX nor its sequel. FFIX was the last good one in my opinion, and none of them compare to FFVI. FFVII comes close though, granted. FFXII is looking pretty boring unfortunately. I really like the world of Ivalice, but with the changes they added since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance it's been getting kind of iffy for me. I tried out the demo for FFXII the other day and well...it was pretty disappointing. Pretty, but gods...the combat was pretty tame. I don't know about the rest of you, but I neither want nor need MMORPG in my single player console gaming.

Or maybe I'm just bitter and jaded towards Squeenix. Y'know. Maybe.

Sphere grid annoyed me for the same reason materia and junction system annoyed me: Characters all end up pretty much the same, or conceivably can.  This is the reason I'm playing a no-Esper FF6 game.

Yeah but that didn't happen until the really really end game with the simple one...you're right about junctions and materia, but sphere grid was the perfect mesh of customiseability (FF7) and rigidity (FF9) in that it's NOT that fluid until you get to the higher levels or if you really twink yourself out, but you still have choices.

Ugh, they really changed the overworld music..? sad.gif
Unknown2005-12-01 06:06:46
Alas, yes. It's now this synth song with a very repetitive male choir in the background. I don't like it personally, though it'd be a relatively decent song if they'd take that bloody choir out.

The original overworld music still exists in the game, but you won't get to hear it anywhere near as often and I can't remember where I heard it in the game. I'll have to ask Shadi when he gets back online.

We got the original topic derailed anyway, so here goes:
Which of these 2 jobs from FFT would you hate to see in Lusternia more - Knight or Engineer?

For those who did not play Tactics (shame on you), Knight's Battle Skill (AKA Grief Skill) focuses on hitting the enemy and reducing their stats OR destroying their equipment. Yes, in one hit. And unless you miss, the equipment breaks permamently, no saves with an exception of a Chemist skill that almost no one uses anyway. Engineer's Snipe has only three abilities: Arm Aim locks the enemy's ability to do anything but walk, Leg Aim locks their ability to walk, Seal Evil petrificates undead (great against necromancy users!). All three work around 50% of the time.
Arix2005-12-02 00:55:19
Engineer, definitely
Shiri2005-12-02 01:33:58

On a different note, Last Order sounds pub related.
Unknown2005-12-02 06:33:12
If we were using tactics style systems, I'd say Engineers would be more painful. Did you know you can apply Battle Skill and other melee skills with an engineer's gun with their normal range? I shattered gear and stuff from quite a ways away. That and well...Mustadio was the man. Seriously. Though I liked Agrias better, but she's not a Knight.

<---- uber Tactics fan

I'm actually a big fan of tactical games in general. I even have an FAQ over at gamefaqs for Front Mission 3. Plus two other FAQs (one for Valkyrie Profile, one for Sonic Adventure 2), though they're not for tactical games. Seems like Tactical games are pretty rare these days, alas. FE:PoR looks alright, but I'm not sure I like the transition to 3d. I'll have to rent it some time.
Sylphas2005-12-02 07:50:52
Knight I would hate more. Engineer would basically be line of sight, uncurable paralysis that wears off after a bit, although a faithful translation would mean instakilling liches. Oh well, not my problem. Knights smashing your crap would SUCK.

Both of those, however, pale to what a Calculator could do. "Hmm. Everyone with a birthday in Roarkian is going to get hit with Thunderclap. No, wait, make that everyone whose current health is a multiple of 10, and make it Inquisition instead."
Unknown2005-12-02 18:07:33
Agreed on that. Calculators are a brutal, vicious, zomgnerf class. Math is a scary thing.
