Temperatures

You feel the temperature around you to be about 75 F. The air is nearly
completely still. The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its
life-giving warmth.

Today is the 6th of Roarkian, 134 years after the Coming of Estarra. The phase
of the moon is that of the New Moon.

12) Roarkian (early winter)

Is it just me, or are temperatures screwy? It's early winter in the woods, and 75 degrees. No wonder my blizzard didn't last more than ten seconds...

Also, I checked about two minutes later, and now it's 68. Still a bit hot for winter, but the temperature just dropped seven degrees.

Depends on where you live. It was 75 degrees here where I live just the other day and it's winter. You were in Glom? Maybe you're just having a southern winter. *G*

It would be nice if the weather patterns were a little more useful, like blizzards actually doing stuff, and having the weather affecting the sun/moon ambience thinies, when it's midnight, dawn, noon, eve and such.

Why does Lusternia use that awful fahrenheit system? Doesn't England use metric these days?

I keep thinking Elryn should be evaporating. dry.gif

And I'd always think there should be a thick layer of ice covering the world if it went by celsius. I mean doesn't 85 degrees fahrenheit = 29 degrees celsius or something?
Unknown2005-12-09 06:30:45
I have no idea, I can never remember the conversion. tongue.gif

Normal people live in temperatures from about 10-30. *nod me*

No, actually, I'm sorry to say. We use metric for a lot of things (like water we tend to measure in metric) but for a lot of other things we measure in Imperial still. Like distance...you'll never find a road sign reading in kilometres here.

Temperature we do tend to do in C though. Confuses the hell out of me when people say it's like 70 degrees. "Aren't you guys like, on fire yet? blink.gif"
Unknown2005-12-09 09:33:53
Agreed, we shall all convert to the all powerful and wonderful metric system! It would be nice though instead of that, if we could configure what type of time setting and temp setting we go, time as in 24 hour or 12 hour, and temp as in C or F.

Well it's snowing out here, and we just played on a major highway from like 12-3am whee! Go snowball go, go snow wrestling with females gogo!

Edit: Oh yeah!! I forgot about us all making bare breast imprints in the snow on carhoods!
Ekard2005-12-09 14:35:27
Ixion: sounds great fun!

I want Celsius degrees too!
I have no idea how hot it is when i see 75F.

And why people use lb when measuring. USE METRES! tongue.gif
tsaephai2005-12-09 14:40:24
just use the correct methode, and go KELVIN! tongue.gif
it's 269 degrees outside here today, i believe. haven't checked the weather yet.

You don't use metres to measure in weight even in Europe, dude tongue.gif

Unless Poland just has a different system to the rest of us...biggrin.gif
Ekard2005-12-09 14:57:53
Bah i meesed this up! sleep.gif

I mean kilograms !!
Shiri2005-12-09 15:08:56
Mmhm, I'm definitely pro-kilograms...it's not even that hard, all you have to do is half it to get a -rough- estimate. sad.gif

The worst thing is, American oz and lbs are different to British oz and lbs, as are fl oz and pints all completely different sizes.

At the moment in Britain its weird, due to EU law some things have to be sold metric, so you now by 2.238 litres of milk not 4 pints, but you buy a pint of beer not 568 ml.
Richter2005-12-09 15:50:50
So anyway, I found it odd that it was 75 degrees F in the winter.
Exarius2005-12-09 15:55:42
The metric system is our friend.

The fools who tried organize the U.S. conversion to the metric system are not our friends.

Geez. No one needs to know that 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters unless he's an engineer converting old system to new system. People need to know that a centimeter's about as long as a typical office staple is wide.

(And no, I didn't check the measure, but it's in the ballpark, and how many things can you name that are exactly one inch long? First person who turns that question into an anatomy joke gets sent to the principals office.)

And for those of us who're metrically challenged about temperature, I present the useful rhyme my father math-teacher father raised me on (rather than trying to pound conversion rates into my head):

QUOTE
30's hot, and
20's nice,
10 is cool, and
0's ice.
Richter2005-12-09 16:03:48
Pah! Make another thread about conversions (or go to google and type it in, it'll convert currency and measurements, just not temperatures. 100 American dollars in australian dollars, or six feet in kilometers).

Seriously?! Argh, not only do they copy a bad system but not the good one we have nowadays, but they copy it WRONG. sad.gif

halo.gif Ah well.
