Ok, so after some discussion in Lusternia about the forums, and looking back over the year, it became totally obvious that 90% of the General and Idiots posts are thinly veiled IC posts, using an OOC means to avoid repercussion.
Can we get a hard-ass Mod to go through from now on and say "This should be dealt with IC, thread closed!"? Seriously, the game would do so much better if people stopped coming here to whine about every IC thing going on.

Make me a mod, I'd do it.
Lots of issues need to be taken IC, and I for one intend to help start it

I say we burn the forums, it's really a waste. If half this stuff was actually delt with in game, i'm sure it'd bring amusement for all... except the victims.
Sylphas2005-12-04 12:15:10
I'd rather they're more like "Be objective, or we kick you from the forums for a week."
Ialie2005-12-04 12:16:38
Meh just what we need more moderation.
Gregori2005-12-04 12:21:12
Well to be honest. I wish they would just close General and Idiots, but I doubt they will do that. So yes, we do need more moderation. The forums are not where you play Lusternia.
Murphy2005-12-04 12:25:21
I agree, put a RP mod on, who's job it is to close and say TAKE IT IC WHERE IT BELONGS
hell the announce board is almost bigger than the public boards

Sylphas2005-12-04 12:30:47
Public boards are never going to be much more than trash talk and randomness, the way we're set up. With us at each other's throats, what is there to really say to everyone in the basin?
Gregori2005-12-04 12:38:33
At least the trash talk and randomness would be in game where it should be, instead of constant IC arguements hidden in OOC discussions on the forums.
Saran2005-12-04 12:43:03
lol i can see arguements about this though. someone gets their thread locked, they claim it was falsely locked, etc

Oh come on, it's easy to tell when something is meant to be an IC thing.
This thread, for example, isn't an IC thread.

You want the mods to kick you when you fail to be objective or should take something IC? It's something you can do yourselves!
Before you post, ask yourself - 'Would this be better off taken care of, in character?" If yes...do it there!
Before you post, ask yourself - 'Am I only posting with the intention of being rude or venomous, just to hurt someone?' If yes...don't post!
Before you post, ask yourself - 'Did I remember that behind the screen and player they are ingame, these are all human beings, people who are not incapable of feeling the same ways as I do myself, and deserve to be treated with respect, even if I do not agree with them, or their player/players organization in game? If you didn't...rewrite it so it is, or don't post!
It's easy to let your temper get ahold of you, especially with the anonymity of the forums. But honestly, wouldn't it be a nicer place if people could follow the above guidelines, instead of always having to be at anothers throats?

Look at the forums, and ask yourself, how often has any of that actually happened. If people were capable of not making threads that were veiled IC issues brought OOC, then we wouldn't be needing the moderation. If people were capable of not insulting one another, then we wouldn't need moderation.
Trying to say "if I am doing this, then don't post" is all well and lovely, in a perfect world. Sadly this isn't a perfect world and we have Moderators. It is not hard to see that the Forums are probably one of the biggest issues with IC/OOC problems in Lusternia. The only thing asked for is if a thread is clearly something that is an OOC attempt to hide IC greivances, then a Moderator shut it down and say take it in game. Even Estarra has said she would like to see the Public boards used more.

As far as I can tell, forums has a specific section created for people to whine. If there was some movement to "take it IC," then I would propose that the first thing to do would be to alter the rules of forums and remove the idiots thread.
Just look at the desc of the Idiot section... it just screams: whine to me.
Gregori2005-12-04 18:52:56
As I said I would love them to get rid of the Idiots forum. It would go a long way to making people play Lusternia... in Lusternia.
Richter2005-12-04 20:06:21
More moderation means more whining about the moderation. Currently, language is censored, personal attacks are removed, bug topics are closed, and topics that get out of hand are closed as well. Since we apparently moderate WAY TOO MUCH (*eye Ialie*), having us close threads more often would just result in more "telling on" the moderators. Hell, I once had a former staff member and a player say they were going to try to get me offed. Apparently, we're too hardcore.
The solution? Use the squishy in between your ears. And players are also more than welcome to say in a thread, "Hey, I don't think this belongs here." As usual, the solution doesn't lie in someone policing everyone, it lies in the people posting.

Just remember, if moderators start locking threads or telling people to take things IC, I will be one of those moderators. You don't really want me doing that now do you?
As for the idiots section... There are many things you can not take IC. For example, when I was playing my role as the humble servant, It would not be in my role to vent or complain about issues, although I as a player may want to. Thats what the idiots section is for, when you can't do anything IC about it because its not in your charachter's nature to do so. However, once you start getting into the minuta and details of a situation, then you should probabbly leave all that stuff IC.

Yes, I really want people whining on public about being jumped while AFK, or why everything is inbalanced and people are overpowered, or any of the stupid crap from Idiots. -sarcasm-
Really, you don't want this IC, you just don't want it at all. Which is fine. Don't read it. I find it much easier to deal with crap when i can vent about it and then go back to whatever I was doing, instead of bottling up my annoyance and carrying it around with me.

I don't know, I think what Guido posted about (Sernwilde linking nodes on capricorn after the wildnodes event would be something worth talking about on the public news boards or in shouts. Discussions of "honour" and "mercilessness" and even of "abusing goats" could become quite entertaining to us not involved, and good pr campaigns for those who are involved.
Murphy2005-12-04 23:23:44
right well i'm taking it on myself to start making attacks and bitchfests on threads that should be IC, in a vain to get it taken IC
