I just don't know that much about druids. I know your cudgel is stronger than cosmicfire so you kill faster, but about defenses and tankiness... not really.
You can get those charms with ecology though. Just how good are they?
And my point was that claiming guardians have an advantage because we recover faster is kind of moot when even the helpfile states it's "slightly faster". Like I said, I was sitting there for two hours to get rid of it (after two hours of wildnodes).

I think the idea that being more intelligent should make certain people more resistant to insanity is disheartening. It further propogates the notion that people with behavioral and psychiatric disorders are "stupid."
On a lighter note, I think Daevos is hard coded into the hallucinations! I swear, I see him and Viravain ALL the time.

I thought the god thing was fixed, unless She's appearing online that whole time.
Serrin2005-12-07 10:14:40
Hannibal Lector anybody?
Honestly, if there is a type of person out there who should be resistant to insanity:
It should be stupid people.
They're not able to comprehend the horrors as well, therefore are less likely to succumb to them.

Yes it is true that most Sociopaths actually have a higher than average IQ.
/begin pedantry
Though as a side point, I disagree with Sociopathy being a more severe form of insanity, its actually a personality disorder typified by a lack of compassion and inability to think empathically.
Whereas insanity is an archaic term for a Mental Disorder.

Blame Vix for my sudden language pedantry.

Sociopathy would be being utterly unable among other things of putting yourself in the place of other people, and considering them as human beings as yourself.
Lusternian sociopathy as a excuse for griefing in Astral? ((You see, I am usually a good guy, but got insane in astral and you see I must RP this!))

Actually, since the insanity in the Astral Plane is lovecraftesque, I think that stupid people would become insane faster, since insanity stems from not knowing and not understanding what is going on.
Unknown2005-12-07 14:58:06
Ummm but Lovecraftian insanity is very different. And the more you understand it only means you freak out less, which arguably makes you less sane than the guy that runs screaming from the infinitely large collection of eyeballs stretching the length of the universe.
In Lovecrafts world, the more you understood about the Elder Gods and Mythos, the less your capacity was for rational thought.

Enough with the scientology of insanity! Bring on the knights in my nose!.. I love the new delusions.. so much better than the stupidity emotes. I keep forcing myself to stay on Astral longer just to see what delusion I will get next that I can freak people out with on CT.. I mean.. my powerstone asked me to be its father... so I have adopted it and... Hajamin caused a pet rock fad in Lusternia!
Gwylifar2005-12-07 15:45:02
Lovecraftian insanity definitely is linked to how well informed you are. Nothing says this better than the memorable first line of The Call Of Cthulhu: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents." More intelligent people always glimpse more of the terrifying truth and go more insane in Lovecraft's stories, while the simple, ignorant "country bumpkins" are even sometimes able to coexist with the insanity without being affected by it.
Nokraenom2005-12-07 17:30:53
Agreed. Intelligence shouldn't affect insanity, but if you look at Lovecraftian insanity, the more one knows of the Great Old Ones and the Mythos, the more prone to insanity that person becomes. The same does not hold true for his Dream Cycle, wherein a person can become more enlightened and "sane" by learning more of the dreamworlds and the Earth Gods (note that the Old Gods and the Daemon Sultan Azathoth/Nyarlathotep the Crawling Chaos still are harbingers of insanity here, and to actually seek the Earth Gods is to invariably draw the attention of Nyarlathotep and thus insanity). The Astral Plane, I would say, draws more from the concept of the great voids of Lovecraftian lore than the dreamworlds.
It would be interesting if there were "dreamworlds" in Lusternia, similar to Planes. Of course, it wouldn't be very exciting if they were limited exclusively to Dreamweavers (though they would probably have easy access), so some sort of skill (perhaps near trans Planar) would need to be added to allow others access as well.

Hmm, are we saying that it makes sense that those with below a 12 intelligence should become insane slower because they are too stupid to know better?

How about people with lower intelligence get insane slower but people with higher intelligence get sane faster?

Sure. While we're at it, why not just skip that, and go straight to giving everyone Demigod and 50 million gold? Because obviously, getting either is supposed to be easy.
On a less sarcastic tone, however, you're supposed to be afraid of astral - not parading up there for days and days at a time, seeing horrors and getting out of there relatively unscathed, physically or psychologically. Also, why should the monsters have gold? They're monsters. They're not going to run down to the store to buy a cup of noodles and a pint of vodka.
As for titans and demigods being affected....why not ask them?

Ooh ooh this brings me to an idea that I like, though it's probably already been said (don't wanna read the whole thread feel free to delete this if someone's said it already). How about creatures drop creature specific items and then make them... cool or useful or something I dunno, so that people will buy them. Like, from a steel goat (they are steel right?) you could salvage some steel or something?
Iunno I've been playing too much guild wars...
Afterthought- What the hell would an emaciated virgin drop...
Anumi2005-12-07 21:03:25
Flamed advertisements to the "Mr Slave" brothel in the other thread.

What kinda dumbass brothel hires permanent virgins?

Wiccans/Druids have affinit with Prime and Elemental
Mages have affinity with Ethereal and Cosmic
Guardians have affnity with Astral and Elemental.
I do find it curious however that having Highmagic doesn't affect this at all since it is suppose to be dealing with the building blocks of creation. If you have highmagic that should be a minor defense. (No, I don't have highmagic)

I still think Daganev was talking crap with that.
I mean.. what do guardians have to do with elemental? What does a Celestine have to do with water and a Nihilist with earth? It's called Geomancers and Aquamancers for a reason.. right? So WTF do mages have to do with cosmic?! We transverse to ELEMENTAL from our nexus and GUARDIANS can transverse directly to COSMIC not mages!
And on that note.. WTF have druids and wiccan to do with elemental? Druids summon a forest.. what does that have to do with elemental water or earth? They can't even -meld- or forest the place! And what do wiccan have to do with it? They summon -fae- from -Faethorn- which happens to be on ethereal not elemental. They don't summon starsuckers and grubs.
Someone enlighten me please.
