It reads like the freaking Bible though.

Same for you... past the first page? It was meant to read like the bible, it basically is the bible of Middle Earth.

As much as I hate Bible-thumpers, the Bible is actually a pretty decent book if you get a nice translation or have a thing for archaic language. Only bad thing about it is when you get the "OMG IT'S ALL TRUE, DIE BLASPHEMER!!!" types.

The thing that bothers me are people that scream OMFG Tolkien sucks... no he didn't. Maybe you don't enjoy that style of writing, or didn't like his stories but that is very different from being bad. If they were bad, they wouldn't be considered the best works of fantasy and the grandfather of all modern fantasy.

Agreed. There are some books that seriously suck, and some bad authors. Tolkien was a great author, but doesn't have massive appeal.
Sort of how Robert Jordan isn't the best author, his books aren't the greatest, but many of people absolutely love his books, including me.

Finally saw Narnia. I was sick yesterday or I would have gone then. I loved it. Loved it.
Really makes me want to read the book again.

I think that was the best thing about the movies, actually. They brought in a whole new legion of people that had never read it before.
And as for broad appeal, in a large recent poll across Australia, our national tv station asked people to give their favourite book, and later their favourite movie.
The #1 winner of My Favourite Book, and My Favourite Movie? Guess.

Anyway, on topic, I'm so envious of you 'mericans and your damn early release dates. I hate that it sems to take like 4 weeks to ship a bloody reel over here. I want to see Narnia!

Ey, at least you're not into the console game scene, like 8 years and still no sign of Chrono Trigger, Cross, or FFT. Darn Americans.
EDIT: And I think they got the Harry Potter film before us, which is HORRIBLE! It's an English book darn it!

Ouch, yeah, that's painful.
But come on, they get to see Narnia already! Our release date is boxing day.
vote: lynch america
Sylphas2005-12-11 07:29:12
Didn't you guys get Potter books first, until they realized that everyone just imports it and screws American publishers out of money?

While I am busy I haven't 100% exiled myself on the forums...
...so, sorry for the Necro...
...But is anybody now excited about Prince Caspian? This looks like it's really going to be fun! Gonna be out in a few weeks, and I'm looking forward to it.
I was familar with the Lion Witch and Wardrobe, but I never read the sequels or saw any adaptations--there was an old Cartoon from the 70s which I watched once--so I'm looking forward to being surprised by the plot.

But the last one was soo boring!
Diamondais2008-05-08 16:02:52
Going next friday (May 16th) to see it with my Writers Craft class so we can write reviews on it.
I wasn't too hot on the first one, but the guy who plays Caspian looks hot so it might make it worth while to watch.
