allowing us to play out social interactions that are no less real than those we experience in person, though they are certainly different.

Dunno if that's true. I never let the game get me emotional unless I am playing at that moment. My Gf calls, or its dinner and I'll be angry in gam, but as soon as I remove my hand from the keyboard I'm back to me and everything that happened in Lusternia only affect that character. I do my best to keep reality seperate from Lusternia. I do immerse when I play, but only when I play. I also only do O.O.C stuff on the computer that I play on, so basically that's my "Lusternia" computer, and everything else is real.

Worst Lusternia has affected me emotionally is had me grumpy and irritate for, oh, twenty minutes. Usually I calm down pretty quick. Never broken anything, or yelled, or any of that. Just a string of carefully chosen swear words. When things get really ****ed up I just log out.

This would be true, and very much by design.  Matt(founder of IRE and co-creator of Achaea) was a major of Sociology(if I remember correctly, if not something along the same lines) and Achaea was designed to have just this effect on people.  It was meant to mimic real life in as many aspects as possible, so to give you a more emotional connection to your character and thus want to play more.

Or have so much drama that you hate it to death and get burnt out and leave because you realize that anything you do really amounts to nothing of great importance to anyone but yourself. Its like a fake job.

In all honesty he's a genious. Anyone who can manipulate peoples emotions to make money can make a lot of money indefinitely.

Personally I only get angry at this game when dealing with the idiocy of the player behind the character.
Wich is OOC and causes lots of inventive cursing if I am alone at home and cannot rant to anybody.

Haha. I just realized the irony of you complaining about drama. Your forum posts make me chortle so.

I've always noticed that when I have a good day in real life I get angry with Lusternia and when I'm having a bad day Lusternia makes it all better. I have no idea why.. it just happens that way. happy.gif

Raezon's post reminded me of back when I played Achaea. My character was engaged to someone who was overly obessed with the game and one day his mom actually called me long distance to tell me to go get on Achaea and tell him to come home. And yes.. He was on Achaea. Creeped me and my mom out.

Ok...that's just creepy and disturbing on so many levels.

Hmm...
I dunno if its disturbing or sad really... Not even all that surprising. I mean, think about it, a person runs off, and a lot of their friends are on Achaea or Lusternia, they're bound to be able to take comfort in Achaea or Lusternia, and they're bound to be bummed out... Makes sense they'd go to a place they feel safest. For some people, that place is in cyber-space. Hell, I know if I took off for regions unknown (And god knows I've thought about it...) I'd be sure to take two things. My dog and my laptop... Along with a phone wire. I don't think I'm particularly disturbed, or unstable... Or even all that wierd. I think I have friends who hardly get online at all, who are far wierder and more disturbed than I could ever be... Lusternia and Achaea before it are my ways of venting, and of finding people to care about. For some reason I find I can empathise with people far easier online than face to face...

Lusternia is addictive. Its also comforting, helpfull, therapudic, etc... It all depends on what you do with it. It can be unhealthy, but only if it hurts your outside life... And I consider my social life mostly as that of Lusternia.
