Okay.. so we got that most-ever-buggy award winning gorgog quest that can stop cities from spiking/doing the sand quest. Hurts the Star and the Necromandate.
Is there any commune equivalent? Anything as easy as that quest (and as easily botched (!) to prevent the sealing again), in a neutral territory that the cities could do to stop the communes from.. umm whatever their equivalent is to the Star and Necromandate? (I think it's the Flame and the Drums but I'm not sure. Avatars are as good as unkillable compared to the cosmic mobs anyway, but it's the -possibility- that counts)
So.. is there anyhting? I know the communes have something to hurt each other (I think) but that's not like the gorgogs in a neutral territory that -everyone- can access.

There should be a way for the cities to the harm the communes.
Unknown2005-12-21 10:06:47
Deja vu.
Edit: I agree, incidentally, but didn't we just have a thread about this recently?

Wow we agree..
But there is also another problem I have with the gorgog quest.
Communes release the gorgogs to harm the cities, to harm the players in it. Leaving aside the the fact that a power loss is involved.. who is that that does the sand quest? Not the high up players in Celest. They don't bother. It's the novices that do it, the novices that get frustrated and quit because of it. And above all it's the novices that often don't even dare to go out of the city anymore if the gorgogs are out because they would die in one hit.
I think the biggest problem with that quest is not, that communes can harm cities, it's that the targetted group which is harmed are the novices.
((Didn't include Magnagora in here because I'm not sure of gthe average level at which your people do the spiking quest.. but I know that you can do it very low level as well..))
Having the gorgogs out would equal having aggro mobs in Seren and Glom that only attack novices, kill them in one hit and that -only- if they either lead pixies or have a shadowcatcher web to gather feathers. That would be insane to have and lower moral.. yet that's exactly the situation here.
Unknown2005-12-21 12:30:47
What we should be able to do is release lots of little novices with ignite into the forests to set them on fire, and watch the Serens/gloms go around trying to put out the fires watching their totems/saplings burn to the ground, while taking 1K damage every 4 seconds. That's about equal to how much the gorgogs hurt, right?
Iridiel2005-12-21 12:46:48
send a horde of little dwarves who hit with their nasty tools and are terribly focused on building a thematic park in the middle of the forests.
We could call the quest "Recategorization of the forests plans" and be about recurring them, finding a lawyer, and things like that. Add a bulldozer as well for extra fun.

Should just cause the gorgogs to swarm the whole Basin and not just the areas in the sea.
Unknown2005-12-21 15:35:38
I actually believe it's the Sea's because of 1) New Celest is a the sea, and that's the current area with the largest population of Merians, their creators, who they dislike i believe, as well as SoD since that's Old Celest, where they're creators orginated from.
Jack2005-12-21 15:37:30
How about a similar quest for the cities. Well, not similar. Like, exactly the same, with different creatures. (But same strength.)
They can be called.. Kornogs. And bear an insatiable lust for revenge against both crow feathers and pixies due to the fact their leader, the honourable Ichi-Hai, was tickled to death by a pixie. (Using a feather.)

Thank you, that made me laugh.
I like it, but would be odd to put in, hm..like where the quest would be initiated and such as theres not a place the Communes have thats equilivant to the Inner Sea and the Sea of Despair

Unfortunalty no, as most of the so called conflicted is centered around the cities. It's -extremely- easy to do someting to harm a city.. but a commune?
Either way, I really think the gorgog quest scratches the line. There is -nothing- that is anything like it that could harm the communes and also, gorgogs don't really bother me as high level player but they do disable some of those quests that usually newbies do.. I just think it's strange that a quest that can only be done by high levels would actually harm the low levels the most. (and they can't do anything about it since they can't do the quest either).

I don't want to see an equivilant quest that's exactly the same with different names for the mobs, in all essentiality.
Something with the same end, maybe - or maybe two seperate quests, one that targets Glomdoring and one that targets Serenwilde. Slightly more difficult, and isn't just, "kill x number of group A, give to leader of Group B, so Group A surrenders, get an item, go get this item this item and then bam you're done."
If we seek for everyone to have identicle weapons, we might as well delete all the skillsets and let everyone kick each other. Strip all stat bonuses, make everyone Human, and remove artis.

Hm, the closest thing I can think of would be Magnagora's ability to kidnap colts, but that's not exactly what we're looking for as only Magnagora can do it and it hurts them as well when we take the colts back. Plus the Hart/Crow thing doesn't work either.
Maybe it could be revamped to let cities have something to do with it? Dunno.

Please don't say "Communes do this!", when you yourself do it. Not to mention the fact that when the rift was open;
1) Celest put in a very mediocre attempt to try and close it
2) Magnagora put in a very mediocre attempt to try and close it
3) Celest jumped/attacked/guild enemied the person who was putting more than a mediocre attempt into trying to close it (incidently a Commune person at that)
Edit:: In response to Novices getting killed:
If your novices are getting killed that is not the quests fault. That is your fault, and indicative of Celest's atmosphere of not caring and cast the blame. If you know the rift is open and NOT telling your novices to stay out of the Sea and find some other quest to do for now, then the fault is your own. You can't blame a quest for your cities lack of looking after its people.
However, if you have warned the Novices, with guild posts and city posts, and they are still dying, then that is the stupidity of themselves, again not the fault of the quest.

It's not telling much. I did this quest as well soon after it was released, before I didn't even know how it affects the cities. It doesn't mean I open it nowadays, which I really don't.

How could you not know how it affected cities when the quest started by affecting cities in the first place. I mean that is the way the event went was introduced.
Gorgogs = bad for cities
Solution = Close rift
Open rift brling more gorgogs = bad for cities.

I don't remember, I wasn't even around during the event most likely. I remember though that I thought releasing gorgogs means they'll be swarming on the inner sea's surface.
![rolleyes.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif)
Besides it doesn't matter, point is that even if you did it once, it doesn't mean you keep doing it.
Diamondais2005-12-21 18:34:03
Actually, no. When the event first started they showed up in the Inner Sea and the Sea of Despair and started to meander towards EACH organization through the river systems. Then, we found the four sisters on the Peak and they started to argue. While that was happening, we started to recieve messages from the Star, the Necromantite(?), Moon, and Night. We learned we had to make the observatories on top of each Guardian/Wiccan guild hall and did that. We didnt start learning that the Gorgogs hated the Cities till after the Nihilists, the Celestines, the Moondancers and the Shadowdancers got their Lucidian Sister into their own observatories where they released the area in Bondero. After that, we got a nice little talk on how they were created, why they were created, what happened, why they were at first sealed, and why they act as they act now.

Yet, it is the same logic used to say "Communes do this to us". When in actual fact most people in the Communes could care less that the rift is open, and in truth, it was city people I found killing the denizens needed to close the rift more often than naught, and usually those same city people that want the rift open because gorgog bashing with the rift open is the best bashing on Prime.
The quest isn't a "Commune's way to hurt the Cities." It is a double edged sword. If Cities want better bashing, they open the rift and pay the price, which affects -both- cities, and city people -do- open the rift. Or at the least pay someone under the table to open the rift so it doesn't show in their honours.
