I was wondering about it, and came to understood the original idea of spectating through the fighters eyes caused issues in the server, but what if spectating worked like this:
What if you did it in a similar fashion to dreamweaving -
a spectator being invisible to those in the arena, and be able to move about normally within the arena, teleport to any of the fighters in the arena, and just watch as if they were standing in the room. Possibly also able to do something like scan/scent, so you can see whos still in the arena easily
wouldn't this be not too difficult to code, since it borrows stuff from already existing code?

Hey, that's a good idea. We could just become a soul when we go in there.

And losing xp...
Seriously though, would you really like to have people watching when you're sparring a friend, and probably talking OOC about afflictions, skills etc?

Maybe make the people sparring have to allow observers, then. Or have it only work in FFAs/wargames.

It'd be used more in a circumstance when people two pretty 'good' people are duking it out, or in FFAs. God I know I'd use that. That'd be awesome.

I had this idea a long time ago, perhaps you don't even have to enter as a soul, but just with divine grace and can walk around and explore while two people are sparring. It'll make arena spectating a lot more fun, and hopefully it won't crash Lusternia like Arenawatch always does to Achaea.

Visible observants would be an obstacle, not to mention they could spam you during a fight just to annoy you.
I'm not paranoid.

Last time I was in Midnight, I thought I found a Spectator box or something like that. In another game I played, there was something similar. If I wanted to watch a fight, I'd go into that room and would be able to see the fight as if I was in the same room. It was basically like a two-way mirror. We could see and hear what was going on in the Arena, but those in the Arena couldn't see or hear us.

I love the idea of invisible spectators, would be just like watching someone else play a game of (insert online PC game here).

I remember the short period of time in Achaea when they were trying to get arenawatch working. The concept is awesome, watching a fight from the point of view of an ally, and the couple times I used it I loved it. You can really learn a lot that way.
Watching in the form of a soul wouldn't be nearly as interesting but it would definitely be better than nothing if crashes keep happening from normal arenawatching.
In any case it should be taken out of the help file unless it's on the todo list.

This is a good idea. Not as good as the original, but that apparently can't be done so whatever works.
I think the soul/dreamweaving thing beats the grace thing though.
Especially since you could more easily dreamweave link someone that way.
