Jade Empire was a bit too easy.. Beat that within a few days. Regardless of the difficulty.

Yeah but it was fun.

BG2 is really great. If you actually finished BG1 but are saying you can't get to 2... something's wrong with you as it's a lot, lot better (and longer).

BG2 is worth playing for the sake of witnessing the badass warmachine that is the half-elf kensai with dual katanas alone.

That reminds me... You people all suck, because none of you mentioned Nethack.

Why does everyone love Nethack so much? It's an ugly game to look at (almost as painful as Wizardry 1) with awkward gameplay, it's incredibly confusing, and it's just boring. I tried it for a little while and it was cute for a few minutes before getting frusturating.
Arix2005-12-24 02:22:59
exactly. I played Nethack, but i liked ADOM better

I loved this engine... and slow how?
239652
Slow because it took just short enough to go from point a to point b that I didn't have time to read a book?

Because of it's depth. No two games are the same, and going down to the bottom level and back with the Amulet of Yendor is so tough most people never make it, but the game is still a lot of fun. Nearly every single thing you might try has been anticipated by the developers. If you think it's ugly and confusing, try the Falcon's Eye version, with prettier graphics and wimpy mouse-driven interface.
Laysus2005-12-24 11:21:24
Nethack was brilliant, even if I never made it more than 7 or so levels in.

Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 (omgiloveSD3somuch)
Final Fantasy Tactics (though its getting off of the RPG thing)
Planescape-Torment (only mentioned once or twice, best D&D based computer/console game i've ever played by far)
KOTOR/KOTOR2 were really well-done games also (also d20 system)
