I dunno what y'all are talking about, but:

* I can't actually pin anyone down long enough to prevent running from heretic/infidel. It might be my skill, but my post-nerf weapons even at 18 str ain't going to get pinleg any time quickly. And if I'm lunging to get them there, I won't have power to use heretic/infidel, let alone have enough to make inquisition stick.
* I'd be interested to know what the Lich night bonus does when stacked with artie weapons AND omen. Because no Paladin at the present, with post-nerf weapons, hurts. Noone fears us. My Merian-ness has 16 base str: so 18 with flex, 19 with highmagic (which I don't have.) Maybe if I went for Tosha, TF and War I'd hurt comparable to ur'guard liches I've seen.. but it seems stupid to have to get those just to hurt.
* necromancy instant-death (sacrifice/crucify) can be teamed. Sacraments one can't.
* Sacraments doesn't include any speed/stat bonuses. All the other third skills have them somewhat.

So, Sacraments sounds good in theory. Numen is great for bashing. Sacrifice/Resurrection is handy. But Lich is better for bashing: You hit lich in the catacombs, you run away to safety, you lich. You don't lose the experience, from what i've heard. Denizens don't hit you when you're ghosted. Lich is better for hunting: you against most of Celestines: kill them in two assaults, or a couple more normal combos. You'll need trans resilience to shrug mantakaya whoring and trans-combat to dodge with trans discipline to focus body quickly enough to not get hit in a second round and die from the massive damage.

So, as a current sacraments user without any artifacts and post-nerf weapons: I say its not that great as a third skill for Paladins when compared to the stat/weapon bonuses and the bashing edge you get being able to die from Lich and lose no experience. Sorry.

Yes it is possible to botch a lich escape, but it also gives you a chance for that escape. If the people or person is not completely prepared to fight you (An easy example is if you jump the person), the person will more likely than not be unable to set you up by having eye sigils arranged all around the area. It is possible, but then again it is possible for you to see that act being done and move out of the danger zone. It is not like sigils are an infinite resource or even a resource that is always easily available at the spur of the moment. That being the case more times than not a botched jumping by the lich can still end with the lich only losing power and healing resources.

I just wish those people who use Lich every time they are in the realm, the same people who are willing to die just to become undead, would stop trying to down play Lich like it is an ability that has more bad points than good. Let’s be truthful about it, if it was as some of you try to make it seem you would not even waste the power to put it up. Especially in the case of combat situations, because I rarely if ever kill a person who has the Lich ability and notice that he or she does not have it up.

* Stats 'bonus' is actually a liability most of the time. I recall Roark saying that daytime to nighttime ratio is 65/35. That makes Lich stats bonus close to 0 statistically.
* While Crucify is easy in team, it's very hard alone.
* Necromancy has no speed bonus and stats bonus is arguable as it's a penalty more often. And you have Honour in Sacraments, regen should count for bonuses. Not sure about Benediction, what does it actually do?

Your bashing edge is trueheal. Even if use Numen during bashing, you should get that 4 power back before Numen fades, and you shouldn't die having it up. I don't think I've ever died again after liching when bashing Astral, but that's because I could fly. Warrior could be hunted again because you can get trapped on a sphere. Don't know how it works in Catacombs.

Also, there are more ways to trap a soul than just eye sigils. Unless they are/were bugs and will be/were fixed.

I don't think I've ever died again after liching when bashing Astral, but that's because I could fly. Warrior could be hunted again because you can get trapped on a sphere. Don't know how it works in Catacombs.

Also, there are more ways to trap a soul than just eye sigils. Unless they are/were bugs and will be/were fixed.

Try using it. Really. Honour regeneration doesn't make up for the stat/speed bonuses other warriors get.

Numen isn't a fixed time. Most of the time I don't get the power back before it fades.

Catacombs hunting would be easy:

* make sure no eye sigils are around
* bring up lich
* bash bash bash bash .. die, hit lich
* wait for eq penalty, dash away as a soul
* reform with 0 power, def up/walk out/snort spores/regen 10p
* lich
* go back in

This is all based on the notion that (a) catacombs isn't covered in eye sigils, which wouldn't stay there even if it were, and (cool.gif XP loss with lich is 0.

Can you send tells/talk on clan when you're liching? If its like death you can send tells. You can snort spores when you reform, you can run to a safe point and ask for someone to fetch you. Its much less risk than numen: if someone/thing beats through numen, you're still dead.

Benediction is a bunch of extra simple defences, none of which seem to help against damage in any way noticeable. I'd really like to find otherwise. It also, like Achaea's priest benediction, is random and not fixed in the defences it gives.

So no. I don't believe Sacraments is as good as Necromancy is for Warriors. If I had insane str (20+), maybe. If I had insane weapons (270+ speed or 200+ precision rapiers), maybe.

Again, I invite people to try trans sacraments as a Paladin without any artifacts and post-nerf weapons. Please, tell me what you think. I've been dying(!) to find a fighter to help me figure out how to fight better because, in all truth, there ain't anyone in the Paladins. I'm sure Ekard with all the buffs and the helm could hurt me, but I'm a pretty tough nut for other paladins to crack. And I suck.

Also, your statement about the stat bonus being statistically null is a complete copout. It means that you're slighly suckier during the day, and +2 on stuff during the night. I don't get how having +2, even if its for an hour a RL day, could be considered 'bad'.

First, when can ur'guard use spores, since it's only a forest ablity? blink.gif Second, I used sacraments as a paladin without artifacts, and I died little to none in hunting. Also, try bashing the catacombs to find out that they will track you, mainly the garghasts...

It could when it has a price of being weakened for the rest of the time. Not 'bad' exactly, as it comes off as a slight advantage (what would that be, +0.2 on average? I don't feel like doing the math).
You can feel that during bashing, when you get increased damage for like 20 minutes, and then for another 40, decreased. It's annoying when it changes so much.

-Anyone can use spores. Unless that was a forest geomancer I chased out of the Inner Sea periodically.

-Just because you didn't die as a sacraments user doesn't mean you would of as a necromancy user. You'd have to compare situations where you'd die as one, but not as the other. This is obviously not possible to do, because you can never replicate situations accurately enough to properly judge, so we're pretty much reduced to hypotheticals.

with what weapons? Pre-nerf? I bet you had excellent statistics on that. I also almost never died bashing Astral before the upgrade. Stuff even cuts through me now with numen and when I die: I die. No 10p lossless XP escape for me.

Actually, I died less as a paladin then I have as a ur'guard in astral and in the catacombs. Garghasts are scary little things, which blackout most of the time,.

I'm telling you: from a practical perspective, lich beats sacraments for warriors. This may be different for Celestines, but it ain't for Paladins. You can debate all the numbers in the world, but you fail to take into effect how they're being used. Just the simple choice of only ever raiding Celestia at night - which is really in-line with the whole "hoardes of undead flooding out at night" - means that +2 is going to freaking hurt.

Just as a side note: lich works all day, every day. Its not a night only thing. It therefore transcends your silly statistics.

Also, IIRC, Lich gives +2 con at night too? If it does, that +2 means a hell of a lot more when you're able to get to level 90+.

Which is easy if Lich means you lose 0 xp when you die and are able to run to a safe place whilst hunting.

Don't make me go Ur'guard to hunt catacombs and find out exactly how freaking good Lich is.
