Surprised you guys let him stay for so long.
Kaileigh2005-12-26 07:07:58
yes quickly run him off before he beats me in the art thing *cough*
Shaeden2005-12-26 07:35:39
Okay I know not everyone will agree with this, but this is my thoughts
To be frank I personally have no problem with players being mild homophobic or rascits (to IC people and races of course!). I mean the game is set up for Celest to hate Magnagoreans, and I've seen us yell at a novice to change from Viscanti as soon as he joined. If that's your character that's your character. In RL there are people like that.
That being said, I think it can, nay, MUST be done tactfully. Firstly, it should never get anywhere to the point where censorship is needed. I mean, if you want to be homophobic, be smart about it. There should be no swearing, obscene gestures, and comments should not be made to hurt. There is a person behind every player.
(In my opinion)
DO say "Excuse me, but to be frank, not all of us want to see you making out at the Pool of Stars" It's none offensive, not terribly judgemental, and reasonable. If they are in a secluded area/Manse then yes, they should do what they want and you should leave (Again within reason)
Don't say " you at the Pool" that's RP, bad character, obscene, and unneccisary.
As to how you handled him Rauros, I would probably have done it differently for IC reasons, but what you did was fine. If I was OCC, and I actually had money I would have outguilded his butt, enemied, put up and put a 5 credit bounty on him claimable everytime I was presented his corpse.

When it becomes excessive, unnessecary, and unwanted, then yes. Sexual harrassment in a text game.
Same goes for any other kind of harrassment. As a general rule, if it is messing with someone's gaming experience, the admins will step in and deal with it.

It is one thing to be IC and call someone a faggot, or a fairy, or whatever as means of insult. It is quite another to go to the degree Leonias did. Sexual Harassment can happen no matter the medium, and what Leonias did was clearly such.

I call all sorts of things "gay" in game.
Does that mean I'm sexually harrassing too?

Gregori2005-12-26 08:30:14
Leonias did more than call someone gay. Please reread my post and apply some comprehension.
Viravain2005-12-26 08:30:18
If you had an admin over your shoulder when you said it, would you feel comfortable saying it?
If you don't, it *might* be a good indication it's something you shouldn't be doing or saying.

If you had been able to see half the things he had said to others, you'd change your mind. But people have had the decency not to post such things..just think how bad they really were.

Oh I know he has anger issues, like me.
I've cussed a few times in my day, that's why I'm down 10 rolepoints ::shakes his fists at the gods::
And I would say something is gay with a Divine over my shoulder so I guess I'm good.

Celest needs to get tougher on their lower levels. If someone even remotley dispected me or another leader in my presence, I would haveno problem in killing them, watch them conglutinate then kick and enemy from the city....no problems whatsoever.

I agree. Celest needs to stop worrying about losing people, and work on strengthening the bond with the good people. I would rather a small community of people who work well together and all head in the same direction, than a smattering of idiots ruining everything. Once Celest has the base of good people more people will come and join and want to stay.

Yes, I'm overly sensitive.

I think that this wouldn't match Celest's RP very well, as they're supposed to be compassionate and nice (Towards people who follow the Light. Towards everyone else, they can be as evil and cruel as they want). But since the roleplay belongs to the players, I guess it could work out. However, what Leonias did was horrible enough on both an IC and OOC level, and I wouldn't have stopped until he got kicked out of the guild and city, and enemied, maybe killed a couple of times for good measure (This would probably have matched Verithrax's RP pretty well in the time he was in Celest, not so well right now.)
EDIT: And saying something is 'gay' IC is silly. Because it's a real life slang term. One that I don't say myself because it's just so infantile.
Cwin2005-12-26 15:46:24
As for the term, 'gay' used in that context: I don't realy like it as well. I know it's used flippantly but I've looked at what was used as a flippant remark before and it removed my respect for the term. I'm not going to go off on a person who uses it though.
As for use of it IG: It's about as RPish as using 'Hell' to curse with, which is to say it's not. There's no historical context involving it becoming used that way.
As for Celest's RP: They have the RP rational to be tougher. Ever since the comming of Estarra there's been two sides that have been fighting each other; Those that wish for a compassionate Celest and those that want a Crusadal Celest. If the violent folks win then it'll make sence that they become more strict towards their young. The compassionate folks..well, there's always being a hypocrite and being strict anyway.
As for the original topic: Blah, I'll leave that to the Powers That Be since it sounding to have turned into OOC harrassment.

The RP is really the player's choice, as long as it's not really absurd. If the Celestians feel like playing a tough crusader city, a band of merry evil hypocrites, a ruthless merchant empire, or candyland, it's their choice. I hate it when people try to constrict RP into a cast, either organizational RP or individual RP.
