Sorry if there was a thread on this already, I looked around but didn't see anything.
I was curious about what you guys think "proper" heights should be, as based by the size stat. I've always used the neutral twelve, coupled with my general knowledge of the standard human, to get a general feel for how tall things are in Lusternia.
So, 12 being the casual five and half feet to six and a half, give or take here and there.
In this regard, my faeling self is around two and a half feet tall or so, having a size stat of 5...
Though, I see much taller faelings and furrikin running around all the time, on top of having a few people tell me I'm too short
With this is mind, what does everyone think in regards to how tall all of these crazy races should be?
Is there really such a thing as six foot tall faelings and four foot Igasho?

I avoid this by playing only reasonable races, instead of silly races like furrikin and faeling. I think that a furrikin or a faeling would be somewhere between 10 and 30 centimetres tall; while we're at it, how big is big? What's the normal size for an Igasho or Krokani?
Valarien2005-12-27 17:22:13
Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out, really
Having size stats of 18 and 16 puts them at pretty darn tall, though

Size stat may not only indicate height but also body density and posture.
Also, the stat might not be linear.

Estarra2005-12-27 17:46:22
I imagine each point of the size stat to be approximately 6 inches.
Diamondais2005-12-27 17:46:43
Look at Humans. The Average male in real life is about 6 feet tall. Human size stats are 12, divide by two and you get 6.
Thats pretty much how Ive gotten a basis for all sizes. Divide the size by 2

Two and a half feet. I think that's how tall Josun is, though in his new description after his ritual (which was a while ago) doesn't include his height.
Peeka2005-12-27 18:46:53
When I first created Peeka, I kind of imagined her as a little fairy thing, and wrote her desc as being only 5 or 6 inches tall. Then after I explored and saw NPC faelings as being 3 feet or so high, I wasn't sure what to do, so I boosted her up to 12 inches, which is as far as I think I could grow her without looking really odd. She is a but small though, so I added that she's 'short for her race' in her description. At this point I'm not really sure if I should leave her as is, or if there's some way to make her grow that would be plausable, as she's 27 now and past the normal growing stage...
Richter2005-12-27 19:30:26
Yeah, six foot faelings aren't really realistic.
I'm going to have to write new descriptions now for all the races. Richter is normally six feet, but I don't have a different description for faeling.

You can get away with the short faeling by just saying she has a weird thing about constantly keeping hersef diminished That would put a faeling right aboout at 12 inches.

Diminished faeling, for a Hartstone faeling like Peeka, is six inches if you follow Estarra's guideline of each point being six inches (which I've always done) and two feet when not diminished. An enlarged shadowlord Faeling however would have a size stat of 9, putting him at 4'6. If they're tall for their race, they could be as big as 5' in my opinion in this case. This would be the absolute biggest size I would think for a Faeling, and only if they're enlarged AND shadowlords.
Now, a faeling Titan would be awesome, especially if they set their size to 25. Can you imagine a 12'6 Kalodan fluttering about, literally smooshing everything? That would be so awesome

Guess i'm off the size of faelings or the ammount diminish lowers it, ah well.

Faelings are size 4. Shadowcaster Faelings are size 5. Shadowlord Faelings are size 6. Diminish is -3, Enlarge is +3.
Valarien2005-12-27 23:12:40
Note to self: Get level 99, make Val have size stat of 25

I always pictured it as weight more than height. Works out much cleaner.
In the most extreme case, you have a size four faeling, about 60 pounds. They fly on overglorified insect wings, so they're going to be built a little fluffier. Let's say they're the height of a 75-pound human, then. Here you're looking at someone a little under four feet tall (but very lightly built). Take it to the other extreme and you get size eighteen igasho, 270 pounds if you figure the average human is 180 pounds. The height-weight chart I'm looking at caps at 6'4 and 215 pounds, but hand-estimating this line a bit farther, you're looking at 7'2-7'6 for the average igasho height.
EDIT: Found one for bigger people. Igasho would average 7'5-7'9.

Solution: Don't put exactly how tall you are in your description. Have you ever been able to guess someone's exact height?

When they stood next to me, yes. I know how big I am.
Shiri2005-12-28 01:37:36
I put Nejii at 3'2 for whatever that's worth.
Unknown2005-12-28 01:54:48
Perhaps they can add the current size as part of the description:
He is a human, almost 6 feet tall, and .
It would be nice to look and somebody, see how tall they are, and if they are enlarged or diminished.

Maybe faelings have late growth spurts?
