All the time.
I correctly guessed Prince Charles' height right down to the nanometer. Well, his height in sock feet, anyway.
I got even closer with Madonna and Sigmund Freud.
I did make a huge blunder with the Pussycat Dolls. My frame of reference was all off, and I guessed them all 5/32nds of an inch shorter than they actually are.
But all that aside, yes: People who specify the precise height of the their characters in descriptions are losing sight of the forest for the trees.
