With the amount of combat we have here in Lusternia, I'm wondering if it is planned (or possible) to get something stealthy as a guild introduced. Now I can already hear the arguments of "this class CAN be stealthy", but we have no class based on stealth. I don't want Serpents like the other IRE realms, but something of that motif who are designed mainly for infiltration or such. Perhaps skills based around sabotage (not saboteurs!), that can disrupt villages and cities slightly. The other games have their versions of the Serpent class, but they don't have the conflict to really sustain the spying/espionage options of these skills to be used fully. I would personally be happy to switch classes to something that does not focus fully on combat, instead siding for something that could vastly improve events and the motion of the realm.
Again, NOT SERPENTS. Just something from that motif - the whole stealth and deception.
Thoughts, Feelings, Opinions?
If you tell me to shut up, I will cry!

Ninja-bards. After all, we do have that performance pool...

perhaps when Ackleberry comes back, one of it's guilds could be stealth based

There's still the unrevealed 4th Archetype. Chances are, based on IRE precedents, it'll be serpent-esque.
Ethelon2005-12-29 23:15:57
I always though the Shadow Dancers would be based around stealth, since...you know..they are masters of the shadows.
Arix2005-12-29 23:57:39
I agree with Ethelon whole-heartedly. When I first heard of the Shadowdancers, the first thing that popped into my head was 'Saboteurs'

I really don't want to see a stealing class. Really, really, really don't.
Dreamweaving is pretty stealthy.

If you look at Serpents from other IRE realms, they were not based totally upon stealing. They are only viewed that way as that seems to be all they can do, which is why I brought up the point of conflict. Eavesdrop, hiding, etc., could prove valuable in a realm built around conflict/war/raiding. I simply pointed out serpents as the archetype for an example, but would rather have some Lusternia unique class again. Just something that isn't solely based on combat, more on deception and such. We have our knights, our mages, and pseudo-priests, so I would prefer to see something more devious.
Dreamweaving is stealthy to a degree, but I'm still a Mage/(whatever) with dreamweaving. Maybe it's just a fanatical idea but possibly a class with a combat type skill (knives, daggers, etc.), stealth skillset (hide, eavesdrop, etc.), and then you could divide the third skill...but maybe some pseudo-influence. We have the combat side of this realm handled, so lets add some of the more devious arts to it!

Hard to say but I also think some sort of assassin/spy archetype. Unfortunately, it would probably involve some more stealing abilities, which sound very cool in theory but cause a lot of grief in practice.
One skillset dedicated to combat. Some combination of martial arts (but without all that spirituality attached, just mundane combat skills) and daggers with 100% affliction rate. You know, a lot of dirty tricks, everything allowed, whatever works best. Backstabbing, crushing knees... Maybe ranged combat here, as one of specializations, throwing daggers, darts or something like that.
Another skillset could cover the concealment abilities, better than what we already have. Problem with concealment is that it needs an available counter, and when there is such a counter, a lot of people get it and the skill becomes close to meaningless. Also, they almost automatically become a tool for theft... I don't know how to overcome it and if it's even possible. If anyone has ideas, share.
It could also cover some spying abilities. Question is, what kind of abilities. Someone suggested once being able to read other cities' logs, checking their power, comms, accounts... it all sounds cool but I guess it can't work like that, would be detrimental to the game.
I've also heard the idea of being able to create one secret identity and being able to join another city. That would change your name, title, honors, all that stuff. Real spies, backed up by a skillset, with one additional identity to work with.
The concept is purely neat, but I just can't see it work, there would be spies everywhere.
Maybe there would just be a secret positions in every city for spies, with a limit of few people at once, and only those in that position (as an official spies) could get a whole new identity to work with, provided they'd have a skillset. That would create some neat rp within the guild, internal conflicts for a position.
I imagine third skillset could be metamorphosis. It's a magical realm and I think it could work like that. Maybe it seems like it doesn't fit an image of assassin/spy but Lusternia is so filled with magic that it's nothing new. I mean, goddamn libraries generate power, why wouldn't assassins/spies get metamorphosis.
It could give some visible physical alterations, like additional limb or something ( ). But think about it, it could also mean internal alterations. Changing your intestines so you're immune for anorexia or asthma and suffocation, control over bleeding, that sort if thing.
Oh, and it could be a requirement for an alternate identity, like you'd have to trans metamorphosis and that concealment/spy skillset to be able to get it.
Guess it got longer than I thought.Â
It seems hard to get one concept that can fill the whole additional archetype, but when you combine those few ideas that aren't already there, it looks decent and actually interesting.

I imagine something like Nightcrawler a la X-2.
Verithrax2005-12-30 13:45:48
Not all stealthy classes in IRE games are like the serpents... What I'd love to see is something like the Idras, which are assassins with a ritualistic/martial arts side. The Idras, for those of you who don't play Imperian, are assassins that get three skillsets: Predation (Which is a lot like Subterfuge, I admit) Toxins, and Knifeplay. Knifeplay involves carving a sitara bone knife out of something's or someone's corpse, and using it to hurt people. In Lusternia, we could have several specializations that vary on that theme. Warriors specialize in swords, axes and bludgeons; assassins specialize in quarterstaves, polearms, knives, or double-edged swords. The second skill would be a choice between Illusions and Hunting. The third skill would be a generic subterfuge-like mix of stealthy abilities.
Unknown2005-12-30 14:06:49
No, warriors are the only ones that specialize into weapons, since that's their thing, if anything i'd rather, see a new original archetype then something that's already been done, or half done somewhere. Lusternia is original in most of the ideas, so we dont need to have something like that from another game.

I would prefer something very unique, as opposed to a class that regurgitates other skillsets mixed into a new archetype. Personally, I couldn't stand the Idras and would much prefer a class that could be used for a variety of things. Look at Knights, you can vary from a speed knight to becoming a total tank depending on race. Mages are quite similar as are the Guardian types, so hopefully any new archetypes would follow in that tradition.
tsaephai2006-01-06 22:57:37
the ultimate class(in my opinion):
gun powder using stealthy class, which would be very big on loyalty/honour(kindof like how the naga were stealthy yet honourable at the same time, of course, i didn't know much about the naga, so i can't say exactly.)
imagine revolver(really really primitive revolver, like not ever flint lock, not even wheel lock either, just plain "drop the lit wick in the hole and cover" type.) and scimitar/saber wielding assasins going around. that'd be rather fun.
of course, none of ye'd agree with me. yet, it is unique, you have to agree to that.

Sounds nice but I'm not sure if it fits in Lusternia...
And the loyalty/honour shouldn't be a class' trait. Every guild would decide for itself I imagine.

Ranged weapons in text games are a Bad Thing, unless the game is designed, from the ground up, with ranged weapons in mind. Since no IRE games feature ranged weapons except for some very slight use of bows in Knighthood, and some siege weapons, I don't see the point. Also, those primitive guns could take up to a minute to reload (Although you'd probably fire then jump in with a melee weapon). An idea that hasn't been used before would be a group of assassins/spies that makes heavy use of magic, as opposed to killing people with sharp pointy objects.
Daganev2006-01-06 23:20:12
ummm.. am I the only one who sees mages as being sltealthy and deceptive?
