Joli, you really shouldn't let the game get to you this way. This is probably something akin to a plot, even though it affect your character negatively. I'm sure neither the player of Elcyrion or Raezon want you to get an ulcer over this stuff.

Er.. you didn't actually think Magnagora would accept a God of Peace to have his shrine in the city, did you?
Also.. I've got a question.. how exactly do you guys get essence for Him? I mean.. it would seem as if bashing and offering wouldn't make a ton of sense. Do you guys just offer gold? Or does he not care when merians or aslaran are offered up in His name?

Well you see.. I talked to Daevos who then talked to Elcyrion and Daevos talked to the Iron Council and got it approved. So yes, it was accepted.
Apparently you know nothing about Elcyrion, because we get essence the same way the rest of the gods get essence. We go and hunt things like sharks, gorgogs, leechs, grubs, starsuckers, and the big mean things on astral.
He's not the god of peace. Read his Help file.

He is ---A--- God of Peace. And what did the poor sharks do? They're natural parts of the ecosystem that only hunt for food.
QUOTE
11.1.12 ELCYRION, THE ERUDITE
The Intellectual and Pacifistic deity known as the Erudite did not enter
Lusternia from the Void like the other Elder Gods. Instead, Elcyrion
manifested on the prime material after His essence had spent uncounted
ages scattered on the winds after His demise in the Elder wars. Now
largely restored, the manifestation of the Erudite still reflects his
history, consisting completely of translucent air, forming the spectre of
a wise sage whose appearance billows in an invisible breeze. Despite His
altered appearance, Elcyrion's teachings and beliefs remain unchanged;
still centred around the two main tenets of Peace and Self Enlightenment.
Elcyrion believes that all conflict is a waste of time and effort, and
that only from peace will the salvation of Dynara's children spring forth.
As such, the Erudite promotes diplomacy and acceptance among His
followers, in the hope that people will one day understand the
wastefulness of violence over differing ideologies. Despite this, Elcyrion
understands that there are times when taking up arms is unavoidable, but
until the day the Soulless Gods return, Elcyrion intends to resist the
senseless bloodshed that drenches the history of Elder Gods and mortal
races alike.
Elcyrion teaches that wisdom and understanding of both oneself and the
world is the only way in which one will ever reach one's full potential.
The Erudite does not believe in restrictions and encourages His followers
to strengthen their philosophies and understandings in debate, whilst
remaining respectful and accepting of other people's beliefs. Beyond the
theoretical however, one should always be careful, for even the wisest
cannot see all ends, and as a catalyst, one is responsible for what one
sets in motion. Reality depends on the observer and as such, there is no
absolute Truth, the genuinely wise can think outside these borders and
gaze upon the true Enlightenment of Elcyrion.
Elcyrion's symbol is a pure white quill, representing wisdom in its symbol
and peace in its colour. Sometimes, this symbol is seen depicted on a blue
field, representing the Erudite's rebirth from the air and the freedom
that inspires one to find solutions outside the traditional and
established order.

*coughs* Um.. yeah.. so not a God of Peace.. and, taking part in the Merian vs Gorgog conflict isn't senseless bloodshed or anything.. and those grubs and leeches.. well they just plain out deserve to be squished. Ugly buggers are Kethuru Incarnate!

So you are going to ignore over half of the help file? Have you ever looked up what 'Erudite' means? He is a god of Knowledge and Wisdom, not peace. Yes, he likes it, but that's not all he is about.
Ialie2006-01-01 00:36:36
We are not to hunt things that are sentient. We do not recogize grubs leaches, sharks of that like to be sentient beings that have a soul.
The wonderful thing about Lusternia is that Gods are not defined. There is no God of Evil, No God of Forests. No God of Death.
They are just Gods that are not restricted by a realm or even a philosphy They are fickle beings that do things the way they do because they want to. Not because they are tied to a realm.

I'm not ignoring the other half of the helpfile, but you seem to be. You're defending pointless bloody conflict in His name based on the OTHER half of his helpfile. Stop being a hypocrit. Just because He's a God of Knowledge doesn't make him not a God of Peace as well.
It says flat out He thinks ALL conflict is a waste of time, and that he'd only advocate raising arms to battle the Soulless. That seems like a much bigger degree of alignment with peace than simply "he likes it" wouldn't you say?
And not hunting sentient things, ok, I can accept that - but aren't the Gorgogs sentient? They're able to build a dimensional rift-tearing machine. I'd call that intelligent.
Nymerya2006-01-01 00:53:23
I've been having this exact same discussion with others. Apparently it's okay to pick and choose which parts of the help file to apply. Or to slightly skew the perecption of what the words actually -say- until they apply to the situation.

I'd love to discuss that with him in game - if you combine Serenwilde's beliefs I can see how you could make an argument that anything is fair game for his followers. After all, we think even rocks have a soul.

Actually, that slipped my mind. White Hart is the essence of the souls of all Stags. If he is comprised of their souls... then that means they have them. So do Fish. Rocks. Water. Monkies. Everything.
Also, I'd argue that anything that can break or raise a shield is sentient, if they use High or Low magic to do it. I thought Astral creatures used to use those standard messages, didn't they? though it might be something different now.
Ialie2006-01-01 03:12:32
Acording to the histories. Not all things aquired a soul. The Gods that created animals only hoped they would. They like for example a god wanted the crcodiles to acquire one.. but that never happened.

I'm not so sure about that. Octopi in the Inner Sea used to make shields using the highmagic message, but they're not sentient. I can only assume that innate x-magic powers is an oddity of Lusternia's ecosystem.
Ashteru2006-01-01 03:16:26
Octopi? Could it be that there's a species out there that escaped the honours of being victim to my insane hunting skills?

That is true in a sense, and I didn't mean to spark a debate about it here. Any viewpoint can be justified depending on what your character's beliefs are.
I just think it would an interesting policy to debate. It's one of Elryn's worst vices, he likes to question everything.

Lacostian is usually pretty aloof. He's not vocal about anything, and probably only the people in His Order know more about him than what's in the help file.
And what's that supposed to mean?
EDIT: And there's no point in arguing wether Elcyrion is a god of peace or not. Gods in Lusternia don't have aspects. They aren't gods of this or that, they're just obscenely powerful beings with personalities and particular beliefs. Elcyrion isn't the god of anything; he's a scholarly, peaceful god. Much like Lacostian isn't the god of knowledge, Raezon isn't the god of secrets, Hajamin isn't the god of competition, Isune isn't the godess of beauty, Lisaera isn't the godess of the forests, and Shikari isn't the god of hunting. Lusternian Divine are more complicated than that.
