At the request of a friend. Can ooc tells be used against you Icly?
Ialie2006-01-05 16:29:12
A wise man named Harker once said to me. Anything that is imputed can be used against you. Anything that you type and press enter for, you are responsible for it.
Malicia2006-01-05 16:30:10
That's a good question and I've often wondered. Say, if a divine spied on a conversation in tells, is he/she justified in using it against you icly? Is it bad form? Good rp?

I had always assumed that tells could go either way. Could be ooc, because there's no rule about being ooc in tells, but I've made ic statements in tells also. Anyways, does anyone know?
Soll2006-01-05 16:30:23
OOC tells shouldn't go IG. If you aren't sure if it's IC, don't mention it IC.

If a Divine spies on your IC tells, I'd say they're perfectly within their role to use it against you, should they wish.
Unknown2006-01-05 16:36:38
But if the tells were used ooc, and both parties knew it was ooc?
Kiarlea2006-01-05 16:43:11
There is a rule about OOC and tells.

If both parties are agreed to it, it is acceptable to be OOC in tells.

On the other hand, if you really want to talk OOCly, do it out of game. It's much safer. Anything that's going to be touchy ICly should stay out of the game if at all possible. Even messages are safer if it's that bad. =P

How would they know whether they are IC or OOC?
Acrune2006-01-05 16:44:51
I've always seen ooc tells as something that could be used against you, but it would be something that the best word I can think of is 'impolite'. If you don't want something to be used against you IC (player or admin), your best bet is talking to the person over AIM, MSN, IRC, phone, email, whatever.
Unknown2006-01-05 16:50:40
That still doesn't answer the question, if Person A and Person B both agree to an ooc conversation, is it allowable to be used against you icly? The answer is no, ooc and Ic should never mix and when you have two people who agree on it being ooc, it should never come Ic. By that same right, the forums can be used for ic information, though it's not in Lusternia.

Sorry to say but anything that is imputed can be used against you. If you put it in the system you are responsible for it.
Cwin2006-01-05 16:55:16
Anything that's marked OOC, to me, is the same as putting comments in code: The actual program thinks it doesn't exist. In IG terms, if you've been sitting there for 30 minutes talking OOCLY then your characters have been sitting there realy doing nothing for all that time.

You can argue whether tells are realy OOC or IC, but if we're to agree that "someone tells you: OOC: ...." is officialy out of game then you can't just pull it IG. Either it exists or it doesn't.

No no no. Forums = OOC. Don't take forum stuff into the game.

Pedantic mode:"input"

I'm not sure how a tell can be "used against you IC". I don't know that there's any way a non-Divine can spy on your tells (possibly if the person you are telling happens to be possessed by a dreamweaver). But if they do, it is perfectly IC for them to do whatever they want with the thing they spied on. If I have some kind of OOC conversation in SAYs, and someone is spying on me with some skill, they can use it against me in whatever way.

That said, any power the Divine have to snoop on players that is above and beyond what a mortal character could do, I'd imagine they need to use that with a great deal of responsibility. I'm not really sure how a Divine would "use something against you IC" that was meant in an OOC tell.

So you'd say that it's responsible for a divine to spy on a coversation in tells, an ooc conversation about in game actions, and use it against them icly?

What is on the forums are not put into the system.

Things inputted within the system yes that can be used against you.

Like if you were talking on your ooc clan channel and you were mad and you said Ct "God I freaking hate Razeon I wish he were dead hate hate hate hate screw razeon He is stupid."

and you had actually meant that for your ooc clan channel you would be responsible and punishable for it. If You don't want things taken against you don't use OOC in game or don't say something OOC that someone can take IC in the game.
Malicia2006-01-05 17:15:56
I thought ooc clans were acceptable. Why aren't ooc tells exempt from being used against you in game?

I'm not really clear on what "using something against someone ICly" means. I'd like that clarified.

I don't think that Divine should, as a rule, be listening in to a player's tells or whatever, without good reason. But I do feel like things said in-game (even via tells) are fair game, whether they are meant to be IC or not.

I guess I can't really picture a situation where it would come up, so I can't really form an opinion on it. If you're talking about in-game events, and someone (God or mortal), overhears you, they can use that information.

No I meant if you miss aether.

If you miss aether that and that goes to CT yeah you are in trouble even though it was OOC

Like I said anything you say anything inputted you are accountable for.

The reason why that can be used against you is because CT is considered an IG channel: Anything you say there WAS said by your character. Even mistells where you meant to type "h shiro east" and typed "shiro east" thus sending a tell is IG.

The question is: If you were in the order of razeon AND in the OOC clan, and I wrote:

Jacquin (OOCclan): "God I freaking hate Razeon I wish he were dead hate hate hate hate screw razeon He is stupid"

IN the clan channel, could you still report me to Razeon? If Razeon was listening could he Zap me for it?
