It's quite possible they are using the artist for the web sites, for instance.
Best case scenario, they might add static graphics for character/denzien/god portraits, major areas, etc, similar to what some some MUDs do nowadays. We know that Nexus can display graphics. I doubt it would ever go farther than that.

If you read that post there are a few points it brings up that makes me think it's going to be some kind of 3D game namely these:

Looks to me like IRE is gearing up for some kind of 3D game. This should be interesting...
