What can be done to improve the quality of roleplay in the MUD? Doubtlessly, this has been discussed before, but I want to hear it straight.

Positive things only please, as in not any reasons why you believe RP in Lusternia might be lacking. Just thoughts.

The best thing to do is roleplay well yourself, as that will contribute to the overall atmosphere. Coordinating your own little events, writing imaginitive books, and other such things also help. For example, there is a Celestian essay available in the libraries that is essentially a three page discourse on Merian respiration and the function of their gills. Now that's what call immersion.

Guido's got it dead on. People who are RP prone are like little sparks just LOOKING for a reason to blow up. If you RP well, you'll find those people and they'll repond in kind (I know I almost overact when a novice comes in RPing like mad). Blah, simply staying in character is enough, realy.

Also remember, RP is not "super epic events of extreme powa!" and it's not "tell your life story to everyone you meet". My own character is actually rather boring in normal day to day operations, and the 'odd and wild' aspects of her and things that, if everything works well, will never see the light of day. That's realy all that's needed to increase RP here.

That and keeping IC and OOC seperate. If you are RL getting angry over an in-game event then you are NOT helping RP (exceptions go to people trained in acting).

Yeah, actually playing a "normal" character is a good start.

too right.

Every now and again, someone RPs something very carefully.. but to be honest, it's damn hard to stick to for the rest of your Lusternian life. Best RP is an ordinary character with a few pecadillos.

Lead by example. It works wonders.

Agreed. Find your character and stick to it as much as possible. Not saying the character can't change, but be smart about it.

I've had one minor character change. It was motivated by two things 1. OOC I needed more pursore/new things to do IC. 2. IC I wanted to find religion, SO after reading a book on the Supernals of Celest, and looking around and seeing Serenwilde slip into "evil." So I converted. When the Superanls explained when Killing is okay and is not okay I started to kill some (cough orcs) things. Other than that I have remained the relatively peaceful person who loves freedom.

Ugh, I hate the new characters who just burst there entire life history on you the first chance they get. Especially the kind of history which makes it sound that the basin revolves around this new born person.

EDIT: Not to say characters with developed histories arn't good, it's just the ones thirty seconds out of the portal who demand your attention kind of ones that get to me.

I once was chased around by a young merian convinced that I was his mother. Problem he also knew who was the father (an NPC I didn't ever know). While accusing me on OOC tells of not helping him with his RP on wich he had worked very hard.
I still have the feeling that person was created in answer to one of my forums posts or something, so evil tongue.gif

Eh, I don't mind to much characters who burst out with a straight idea of what they want, but if they are going to start lots of trouble and stalk people/not listen to supriors. And one who make it sound like the world revolves around them, they are silly and would be U|3eR fun to deal with IC, as long as they listened/were not stupid about it (I UNLEASHED THE TAINT! NOT LADANTINE! ME! I DON'T CAT WHAT 30 PEOPLE SAY! is being stupid)
