Should have been Jacques Lalouche
Peeka2006-01-08 18:45:30
Here's what happened after Roark went to revive Jacques, whom He slayed to release the dirk spirit that possessed him (This has been highly edited down):
Roark Libertas says, "Tell the others that Jacques shall be revived soon."
Roark picks up the top half of Jacques Lelouch.
Roark picks up the bottom half of Jacques Lelouch.
Roark picks up a steaming pile of entrails.
Gathering the pieces of the body, Roark presses them together.
A soft glow shines in the room and the body rejoins.
Roark breathes on the body of Jacques Lelouch, and colour returns to his face.
Soon after you can make out a slight rise and fall of his chest.
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "My my!"
Jacques Lelouch says, "Oh... What has happened?"
Adorably Cute, Syntobis C. Regamos, Fairy Godmother says, "We believe a powerful
spirit possessed you."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I have a memory of that."
Seeker of the Dawn Kalodan Caelicus, Golden Faechild says to Jacques Lelouch,
"Do you remember.. a dwarf?"
Jacques Lelouch says, "Yes, yes, I do."
Adorably Cute, Syntobis C. Regamos, Fairy Godmother says, "Do you have any
recollection of a bird?"
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "Ah yes!"
Roark begins to weep uncontrollably.
Jacques Lelouch begins to weep uncontrollably.
Jacques Lelouch says, "It is most horrible, n'est pas?"
Jacques Lelouch says, "I remember receiving letters from a secret admirer."
Jacques Lelouch says, "She said her fammily forbade her from visiting Delport,
that we were a corrupting influence on the youth."
Jacques Lelouch says, "We exchanged many letters."
Jacques Lelouch says, "And when I went to meet her at Roark's temple, posing as
a simple traveler wishing to pay homage to Roark, then it happened..."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I remember entering the temple."
Jacques Lelouch says, "And many people were gathered, I believe many from
Celest."
Jacques Lelouch says, "And a dwarf."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "And then a black evil spirit flowed from the dwarf
and jumped into my body! Oh, the horrors of it all!"
Jacques Lelouch breaks down and sobs uncontrollably.
Jacques Lelouch says, "The memory is almost all I can bear."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I lost control of my body as this...this thing took
control."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "And it used me to complete the spell it had made the
dwarf begin!"
Jacques Lelouch says, "It called down the eagle that flies above the temple and
bound it with magic."
Jacques Lelouch says, "And using my body, it slew the eagle and tried to kill
the poor innocent dwarf."
Tears fill Jacques Lelouch's eyes and begin to slowly run down his face.
Jacques Lelouch says, "The dwarf cast some strange spell to protect himself as
he ran away."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I can only presume he did so in the hopes that someone
would revive him and give him life again, poor thing."
Jacques Lelouch says, "Where is this dwarf? Has he been saved, or is he still in
the field?"
<< He is told that he has been slain by Magnagorans>>
Jacques Lelouch begins to weep uncontrollably.
Jacques Lelouch says, "Well one could not have expected more from that city."
Jacques Lelouch says, "So then he used me to spread dissent against the dwarf,
visiting all the cities and communes."
Jacques Lelouch says, "But why me?"
Jacques Lelouch says, "I have another memory, a vague one."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "As though my mind had joined with it, I can recall
its memories as well!"
Jacques Lelouch says, "This spirit... It is ancient, from the days of the wars
against the Soulless."
Jacques Lelouch says, "It remembers going into hiding like so many other gods."
Jacques Lelouch says, "It remembers a deep hatred for one god in particular,
though I do not see why..."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "It returned to this realm like the few elder gods we
know, but it was weak. It could not make a body of its own!"
Jacques Lelouch says, "So it took the first creature it could find."
Jacques Lelouch gives a horrified gasp.
Jacques Lelouch says, "It wanted humans."
Jacques Lelouch says, "We are foreign to this realm. It saw the essence and
powers of the ancient gods in the mortal races of this realm."
Jacques Lelouch says, "It thought the foreign creatures may have magics of other
realms to make it stronger. It wanted to feed off of our souls..."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "So it lured me!"
Tears fill Jacques Lelouch's eyes and begin to slowly run down his face.
Jacques Lelouch says, "Oh poor me, why did it have to be me?"
Jacques Lelouch says, "I am just a human."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I recall its memory that any human would do."
Jacques Lelouch says, "But why target Roark?"
Jacques Lelouch points at Roark.
Roark Libertas says, "Um."
Roark Libertas says, "Well..."
Roark Libertas says, "The past is the past. Clearly it was an evil spirit with a
thirst for blood. Pay no attention to its blathering."
Roark Libertas says, "All that matters is it is not here."
Jacques Lelouch says, "I suppose so."
Roark Libertas says, "Well Jacques, you are well. And I apologize for what I had
to do to you. The only way to force the spirit out was to do what I did."
Jacques Lelouch exclaims, "I understand. I would rather be dead than controlled
by that beast anyway!"
Seeker of the Dawn Kalodan Caelicus, Golden Faechild says, "Roark, do not dodge
the subject."
Roark Libertas says, "I did not dodge it. The past is the past. The evil lying
spirit is gone, probably destroyed by the primal energies of the raw
aetherways."
Seeker of the Dawn Kalodan Caelicus, Golden Faechild says, "And if it returns,
Libertas?"
Roark Libertas says, "I doubt that will happen, but I will finish what I began
in that battle."
Roark Libertas says, "We have another matter to attend to."
Roark Libertas says, "My eagle."
Seeker of the Dawn Kalodan Caelicus, Golden Faechild says, "And the dwarf."
Kalodan creases his brow in a frown.
You say, "Poor things."
Roark Libertas says, "I do not believe there is any saving the dwarf. I was able
to revive Jacques due to it being my act. The dwarf's blood is on Magnagora."
Roark Libertas says, "But since the evil spirit of the past slew my eagle,
during the battle I tore a piece of its spirit from it, and I will attempt to
use this to undo its actions."
Roark Libertas says, "I go to prepare the ritual! Be well, Jacques."
Jacques Lelouch says, "Be well, Roark."
<< And then off we go, the eagle brought back to life>>
Roark Libertas says, "Tell the others that Jacques shall be revived soon."
Roark picks up the top half of Jacques Lelouch.

So the "dark spirit" is an Elder God? Interesting.
Richter2006-01-08 18:54:59
Hrm, that post Roark made seemed oddly out of character for him, maybe it's just me used to him not talking much, and the only real intereactions that I've had with him have been discussing his principles.
Anyway, this new bit seems interesting, I'll keep my eyes open for more eventish stuff.

He never really had a character, from what I've seen.

This would be sort of correct. He has a character, but he's interacted with mortals so little that it really isn't well known. Perhaps you could say that he's generally an intellectual and usually a nice guy, but he can be a very wrathful got when angered. The tone of his book, for example, tends to vassilate between being nice and being tyrranical.
Regarding Richter's post, I think we've chatted only once or twice. That really isn't enough to get to know a god.
Roark2006-01-08 21:12:32
This was the first event I ever did. Hence why it was small. Note that there was also a sequence planned for if the dwarf lived, but the people who wanted to see him killed did a better job by a 3 to 1 margin. I hope this raised interesting questions about the past and about Roark's past in particular.
Suhnaye2006-01-08 21:29:13
Hmm... From the sounds of it the dwarf may have been just as much of an innocent bystander as Jacques... Pity he died...

Ah, true. Your book and a few messages don't really show your overall character.
Though, I have to say, I just love the book, I've based much of my character around those teachings when Richter read it. Roark is kind of his idol.
Peeka2006-01-08 23:33:05
Roark, this did make me ponder a bit about his past, about the tinkerings and contraptions he made and what else he might have done until he met up with Estarra.. no doubt there's enough of a time frame in there for him to do some wrong to someone/thing.
Peeka2006-01-09 01:40:19
"Kalodan recognized that this "village of lovers" had to be Delport, and
Kaervas was the first to recognize that Jacques Lelouch was the man in
Delport whose initials matched those of the letter, both of whom
received the promised reward in the form of a divine blessing."
Hmph! That will teach me for catching on too quickly, Peeka went to Delport yesterday to scope things out after hearing the man's talk of his true love, but at that point I guess the denziens weren't set up correctly or somesuch.

The one thing I noticed about this plot is that it had a "matrix", which some have been complaining about--the player were able to affect the outcome by killing or saving the dwarf. This is better than events that only have one conculsion. I heard a few people complaining about that in IRC one evening.
I understand some events have to be that way, but the more branches that can flow, the better it is. Players like to believe they have some control over the fate of Lusternia.
Kudos Roark.

I think alot of mortals will begin to ask questions about Roark after this, and maybe turn to their own divines for questions. I can't wait for round two!
Unknown2006-01-09 02:07:03
With most of the events we have had so far they were designed to introduce new skills or areas. It is a little difficult and time consuming to code multiple outcomes to an event like that so I can understand why Estarra and Co would not bother wasting their time on things that will never get used.
That said, I do prefer the events where an outcome is not set in stone .

I was the only Magnagoran who wanted to heal the Dwarf, but I knew I wouldn't be able to convince the rest, so I just decided to go along with it.

I agree. I think everyone liked that aspect of it. (Even though I didn't really do anything to help.)
