Blame Emar?

I can't wait till the Moondancers get new guild rank titles. We have the single worst batch I've seen.
Ask yourself and be honest, which would you rather be known as:
(old) A brownie helper
(new) An ethereal songweaver

I don't know, I kind of liked seeing this: You are a Nymph Cosseter in the Moondancers. That and pixie dancer, and whatever else was in between.
Just like I enjoy seeing this now: You are a Mistress in the Mighty Dominion of Magnagora.
However, Bau has NEVER been forced to wear a title, not even the several times she's been a novice. Not until she joined the Nihilists. And she doesn't appreciate it at all.

Yeah.. Vesar didn't make me wear a title as Aqua, even though I had to go through the Adept-Initiate thing.. and the Celestines had no fixed titles after novicehood when I was there.
That said.. I like the 'Seren Brave' thing for some reason, it seems different than most novice titles to me.
The award for worst titles wins the ur'guard. They just put ur' in front of EVERYTHING and.. that's it. Can only do that so often until it gets boring. Why not make the ur' a title where the right to wear it has the be -earned- if it's so important to you?
EDIT: I like the Moondancer GNT as well.. Moondust

I like moondust too, it's nicer than seeker of the moon in my opinion. As a channel. As a novice title it would be a little weird so I think I can see why we don't do that, but still.

I'm fond of 'Pupil'.
Not that... I'm biased.
At all.
Ahem. In all seriousness, I like the Blacktalon's. The imagery "Shadow of Crow" brings to mind is just lovely.

Ha! I came up with "Pupil". Short and sweet, like all titles should be.

I love Moondust, but I think Seeker of the Moon fits REALLY well too. And yeah, urguard titles are terrible.

and then you went and ruined it all by going Celestine. What a waste. Sigh.

You are of course aware, that an apostrophe means that something has been omitted. Now, let's take a look at that name.
Mor't'z'lia Oari K'ian Doim, Cairam Ion'r
Moritazalia Oari Kuian Doin, Cairam Ionar
(Or any of the other possibilities)
Why are the appostrophies there? Well, as many will answer you the answer is "Because it sounds fantasy-ish, doh!"
Ah, well, that sort of explains it then, doesn't it?

Sometimes an apostraphe indicates an audible intake of breath, or audible expulsion of breath, think a letter with no actual sound for itself.
Or maybe its expressing the stress on a given syllable.
I have no clue what was intended with that title though...
At least, thats what I usually think of when I see a title or name like that.
Unknown2006-01-09 21:03:22
I don't really like titles much. I'm not even sure if people can title themselves, since someone always gave me a title. I'd rather just have a short verison of my guild/commune title or something. Maybe then I'll emote more.
Richter2006-01-09 21:13:32
I like having a short title, I stand out.

It does actually have a meaning. Mor't'z'lia are two different words, compounded together to make a new word. It's sort of like Spanish. You say El Pollo Loco for The Crazy Chicken, although the way they say it, it's actually The Chicken Crazy. Crow tongue works the same way... We have feminine and masculine terms, different terms for singular and plural, etc...
I'm not going to explain it all, because that would give away the mystery that we in Glomdoring so love.
Nokraenom2006-01-12 12:13:04
I'm not a huge fan of forcibly-imposed titles either, which is why you get your own suffix at gr1 in the Nihilists, and your own prefix and suffix at gr2+. I felt having titling priveleges as something to work towards (but some of the first things awarded, so everyone isn't forced into dull and boring titles) to be a positive thing for the guild.
Anyway, I'm glad you all like the "Urth Estarra, Instrument of the Fates" novice titles. A whole lot of thought and research went into creating them, and if you're a gr3+ Nihilist you can read all about it in one of my dreadfully long news posts. (Though some of the philosophy is scattered around in the ghelps) Needless to say, neither Urth nor Instrument of the Fates were created on a lark, nor merely because they sound neat (which I think they do!). Both have a lot of meaning and significance to the Nihilists, and as Guido said, not everyone realizes that they are derogatory terms either.

I shan't add that I never read his news posts. He's far too long winded, and I always make someone else stupid enough to read it summarise them for me.

I cant remember if thats one of the words I came up with or not, but I have a facination with apostrophes and I think over half the words I created in the tongue of crow have them.... My favorite is the word for - to be- .

Ignore Elcyrion about the crow tongue. He's just jealous he didn't think of it first.

Except it makes perfect sense in Spanish, and is translated normally to English. It's like driving in the U.S. and going to the U.K. Sure, things seem backwards, but that's the way it is there, and when we come home, it works normally for us again.

When I started it, I wanted all the words to be one syllable (SP?) The language was supposed to be non airy and more staccato (SP?) to represent something my twisted mind came up with.(I kinda invisioned when Crow spoke to be kind of a clicking type sound) To get this affect without five billioin four letter words I added apostrophes to get the desired affect. One I started with the apostrophes I couldnt stop. The Tongue of Crow book had every preposition in it and all of the crow tongue variations were words with apostrophes. (It made sense in my head)
