What's the level of technology in Lusternia? Like clockwork tower? I read about Hallifax and that sounds pretty cool. Those machines you see on the gorgog islands and stuff make me wonder, too.
Soll2006-01-12 13:35:26
There is little in the way of technology within Lusternia, near everything runs off of magic. I do not know of any technology that exists, really. I expect that if/when Hallifax is released, we shall see a number of more technologically based items.
Iridiel2006-01-12 14:43:26
Lusternian machines don't use electricity.
They use hamsters.
Ask Raezon.

Hey man, magic-powered tech is still tech. Like Magitek from the final fantasy series. I just find it pretty cool is all, gives an edge of fantasy to the MUD I haven't seen before in an IRE game.
Iridiel2006-01-12 17:09:30
Well, I am of the old school, tech is the opposite of magick smile.gif
Anyway, the level of tech here is still small, unless it comes from before the Tainting thing (read the histories at the website, they're amazing) when the Celestine Empire was at its peak.
Right now, tech has gone down a few notches, and magick as well. And powerful people too.
Divines stay allmighty, though

Lusternia would never evolve into a high industry/high tech society as you may know it, because all tehnology is magical-based. However, if you're talking about magical technology, I would think Lusternia may be quite advanced insofar as they have developed parallel magic tech such as aether broadcasting (telephones), flight (several methods), teleportation (beyond anything we know), etc.

Does that mean we get airships? That'd be so for sheeze, Estarra. What other IRE game has siege weapons, or transport craft battle? Build me a Galleon and I'll paint you a whole new venue, sugah. Plus then I can make a character named Cid and live on one of said airships, and be all like "wtf is going on" every four minutes. In the middle of battles, too. That'd be hilarious.

Cid, Glomdoring airship engineer is here. He is wielding a mondo hammer.
Amaru says, 'u r teh die, foo.'
7331h, 4007m say wtf is going on
Cid says, 'wtf is going on'
7331h, 4007m whammy Amaru
Cid lashes out with the mondo hammer, crushing Amaru's skull and killing him instantly!

Amaru has been slain by Cid.
You see the death occur on the deck of the S.S. Smokejoazz

Haha..ahh yeah. Seriously though, as far as clockwork technology(gears, etc.) and magic-type technology go, are there any plans you guys got cooked up for Lusternia? It's just that it's a really interesting aspect you see few medieval-type MUDs take on, and Lusternia is already the best IRE game I've seen(And the IRE games are the best medieval-fantasy typish MUDs I've seen), feels like we could really go places with it. As opposed to Aetolia which just seemed to die. Really feels like the dark ages over there, and it is!

Thanks for the kind words, Percival! wub.gif

Of course we have plans in the works! However, as people will tell you, we don't release details of upcoming developments.

Yes. clearly we need a Cid. but then you have to go to Achaea and Aetolia and Imperian and make characters named Cid there, too.

The only airship I'm aware of is currently anchored in Deepnight. If you're curious about it, track down Richter sometime and ask him about it. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to have someone new interested in his works, particularly so soon. Pity I'm a Celestine...
Richter2006-01-12 19:14:28
Actually, I have an airship, the D.N.S. Stroke of Luck.

Now if only Estarra would let me put roulette and blackjack in there...

What? No! Of course I wasn't thinking of Setzer's ship when I made it. *EYESHIFT*
Unknown2006-01-12 19:22:49
On a side note, Setzer is an infinitely more capable and cool airship pilot than Cid. I mean seriously, he pilots that airship completely by himself and uses it as a gambling den! What could be more cool?!

( The views of the author written herein do not represent the actual views of the player in question, who happens to find gambling to be a great way to part people from their money. )
Everiine2006-01-12 20:11:20
Looks like the technology varies by the area. You hae everything from very simple farms to huge cities to miraculous machine portals. It's very diverse, which is why I like it.
Unknown2006-01-12 20:31:48
Yeah it's totally groovy. All the crazy planes, different races. I dig it. I'm so going to hang out in Richter's airship.
Jitwix2006-01-12 20:57:42
If you're interested there's a thread from a while back about the Website & Nexus Artwork and technology. I had thought the artwork was very technological looking, so, being filled with satiable curiosity, I asked about it.

I'm going to have to argue that Cid is (are?) a cooler airship pilot, though not necessarily cooler as an airship pilot, by virtue of some of the other Cids, who were cool.

Like the oglop one, he was pretty cool.

The mighty n'Rotri Empire has actually been working on rocket science. I expect the first Lusternian mission to the moon to be in a few more years once they figure out how to deal with the foam insulation. They took Angkrag because it has good oil deposits that are needed for rocket fuel.

I love how the NPC government is learning about rockets while us player run governments are sitting in the dust with our ponies tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Any chances of the n'Rotri staying active? wink.gif
