I was think that there should be political parties. When there are elections, I see myself having to choose between two big name candidates and a lesser known one. That lesser known one usually doesn't win but there are still the two bigger candidates that I have to choose from. The both have great qualifications and it comes down to who I like better. If I can't decide after that, then I just can't vote.
I am almost positive I am not the only person with these problems so I drew up this idea. There should be political parties based on political beliefs. It should be set at something like the 1840's version of liberal and conservative parties in Europe. Anyone with any ideas towards this?

This is very stupid. Not to be harsh, but it simply is.
If someone wants to get votes, they get likeminded people and friends to vote for them (or others... yay party machines!). Anyway, this is ALREADY IC. If you want parties, organize one yourself. No need for this to be hardcoded at all.

Rude. It's not a 'stupid' idea, there's a good, intelligent sentiment behind it. But it is flawed, though not for the 'stupid' reason you gave.
By default, the government in Lusternia for cities is pretty much already that way. You just need to apply your own labels to each candidate's governing philosophy. Of course, that's if there's a council in Magnagora as I've heard there is in Celest.
Honestly, I think it'd be -alot- more interesting and -alot- more fun if all these governments were Monarchies. Opens alllll kinds of doors.

No it is pretty stupid, we dont have the playerbase for political parties in every city, and even then, why would we even need them? Our elections are not done by what group wants to do this, well except maybe Magnagora and their great Houses, but most elections are done for individuals who are needed to fill the position, we're not looking for a influential group that wants to control the guilds.

It doesn't fit much.

Funny, I've always operated on a politcal party system. I generally call one party the 'fighters' and one party the 'overthinkers'.. or the 'combatants' and the 'politcians'... for example, when I was in magnagora I refused to vote for people who were not part of the 'combatant' party.

Dag's got it. Just make your own labels, from your point of view. That'll help you out.
Unknown2006-01-15 03:12:11
So, its already in the game and therefor needs to be hardcoded?
Daganev2006-01-15 09:00:04
It allready is hardcoded.
Take a look at the government functions again.

Like it is said you already have parties, in Celest these get formed by a Divine throwing their support behind one candidate, well known people saying who they support and so on. no need to change any of the code.

I've actually thought about this to, but when you get 15 votes for a position... Just doesn't seem to matter enough. Plus, the GMs + Ruler kinda make the cabinet anyways, seeing as how they make the Shadow/Star/Iron/What ever Serenwilde's is council. That 4 out of around 75 active players per city. That's more then we have per person in Ontario, Canada.

Political parties can certainly be formed in-character. There's no need for any new code or anything, you just need a clan and some members who share the same beliefs.
