Is the website now IC?

Hmm, well... this is tricky.

Your question is whether or not someone should take information off the website and apply it IC. If we don't (and not that I'm advocating we do), how exactly does anyone explain the histories?

Everyone initially read them on the website and then it was assumed their character "knew" them.

I read them in the moondancer library back when they where on scrolls!

And I think there a few books on them IG so you can claim to of read them there.

Those scrolls were created by people who copy/pasted from the website. Furthermore, the books are now a recent addition.

Although the comment about the website is terribly bad form, I think its pretty safe to say that other Magnagorans will know you are Magnagoran. That's a completely valid, IC method of determining your allegiance.

Also, don't underestimate the power of thirdeye (or scrying, for you lucky citypeople)... I use thirdeye all the time to watch someone's movements. If they jump from the Skarch desert to the Ravenwood tree, I generally assume they are Glomdoringi. (Yes, thought I'd trial a new name happy.gif)

oh yes... ah well claim it comes from the hall of records *shrug*
But I think there is a difference between the histories (obviously meaned so you can orientate in the game) and the honours.

... I didn't go near the fields. I'd say that's a pretty blatant forgetfulness of using thirdeye, wouldn't you?
Unknown2006-01-15 13:22:09
Usually.. if someone has no title I check the honours to see if he/she is Celestian. If not I ask a Seren and if that person isn't a Seren either what options are left?

You'll find that if someone is in doubt of what you do there they will -always- ask you to leave. If you don't belong to their org you are at least suspicious and if they don't know that you belong to a friendly org (which you didn't in this case anyway) that the chances that you will have to leave are even higher.

All in all, keeping your org affiliation secret just doesn't work. No ooc sources needed it's easy enough to tell.

All someone would need to do was check who every once in a while with thirdeye.. sooner or later he'd catch you standing around at the Necropolis and that would mean that you are either Mag, Gloomy, or friendly to those orgs..

EDIT: Unrelated but I thought rogues can teleport nexus to the Portal of Fate?

I consider 'honors person' to be whatever is in the local rumor mill about them sort of a "did you hear that so-and-so did this?"
246681

I like that.
Shakaya2006-01-15 14:14:13
...

I never tried to teleport as a rogue. Hmm.

But I've -never- had a problem before this. Rogue or Magnagoran rogue, no problems. -That- part only annoyed me because she assumed I was assaulting poor furris.

As I pointed out earlier, it was the 'finding out I was Magnagoran from the website' bit that irritated me most.
Diamondais2006-01-15 14:22:14
Yeah, Rogues go to the Portal of Fate which is really only good if youre trying to get up there fast. Its out of the way for most people, and to take that way to avoid certain areas that have people who attack Rogues it makes it longer. Im not trying to complain, I fully understand that why it might be done like that. Rogues are discouraged because the games built around Cities and Communes.
Shakaya2006-01-15 14:34:26
If it weren't for the customer who insists on dozens of that damn Magnagoran ice-cream, I'd go back to being a rogue. Not that I'd be trusted anyway. So who knows...
Unknown2006-01-15 14:42:29
I think it should go to the idiots forum. And yeah...

saying you're a Magnagoran but refusing to tell where you know that from: poor form, hardly acceptable.

saying you're a Magnagoarn and telling that you know it from the website: docking rolepoints, anyone? Preferably many.
Laysus2006-01-15 15:25:35
Certain parts of the website, like histories, and maps, I've always considered to be written ic, either as common knowledge, or something that isn't common knowledge, but is easy to find/find out. Although no, whoever it was shouldn't have been using the website's information to act icly, as any character information from the website is found out OOC. If you can't find it out ICly, your character shouldn't find it out.

It's good icecream. laugh.gif

And Kurt, yes, that was my intention. Most of the time, (Except with novices), that's something I ask the first time I meet them. There used to be a Magnagoran pair who would do the same thing, and 'introduce' themselves. I try to stay IC even with novices, such as, if they ask me my name, I tell them it is unimportant, and they may call me by my Guild title/s or Lady d'Erlette. Simple roleplay without being out and out nasty to them, but sets the tone for my later RP. So no, I don't even consider HONOURS to be IC. The website? Certainly not.

I know most people in Aetolia hate the ESTEEM system, but sometimes I wish we had something like it. *shrug*

For those that have never played Aetolia and don't plan on it..

what is it?
Shamarah2006-01-15 21:45:18
Esteem is a good idea but is way, waaay too abusable to work properly.

Basically it's like rolepoints that other players can give or take.
Soll2006-01-15 21:48:49
Esteem is a system involved which lets players rate other players' ability to roleplay. Here we have roleplay rank set to 100(Which appears as 'She is an extremely credible character.' in the rankings.) In Aetolia, this is set to level out at 50. Characters can hold a varying number of esteem 'points' at a time, depending on the condition of their esteem. Higher your rank is, the more points you can give out(5 at max). You have 3 points at 50.

These points can be used to express esteem either positively or negatively. You regenerate 1 point every 8 hours.

There are bonuses and punishments depending on your esteem level.

This system has had a variety of feelings expressed towards it. Some are grateful, whilst others believes the ability to rate roleplay should lie only with the Gods, whilst others believe that everyone's rank should be 100 because it's assumed you're always roleplaying.

There have been a number of complaints about abusing this system.

Out of curiosity, whats the point of the extra website information? I always assumed that it was just like honors (didn't think a situation like this would come up), but I guess its not.

However, on this issue, even if the way he figured out you were magnagoran was sketchy, I think this is just one of those "suck it up and move on" types of deals. So you can't go influence a village - worse things can and do happen.
Shakaya2006-01-16 06:15:05
I just avoid the village when she's around. I spend more time up at Tosha anyway.

Doesn't stop me being annoyed. tongue.gif
Daganev2006-01-16 07:12:18
point of the information is for new players to be able to get an idea of the player population in the game, without logging in.

You can go.. ooh look theres amost 0 krokani.. maybe I should be one.. and maybe I should go find.. Alyssandra to see if I can make a krokani clan.
Shakaya2006-01-16 09:01:35
Yes, but why is your city/commune listed in there? It doesn't list your guild.
