Since changelings are supposed to be an actual race, and the cameo only marks someone as one, wouldn't it be nice to have a helpfile?

Make it so when anyone who isn't a changeling tries to do help changeling it says access denied you are not of this race so don't need to know anything about it. Nothing to see hear move on.
Diamondais2006-01-17 02:46:06
Geez why dont we just do that for every race then? Theyre helpfiles, meant to give you information in case you want to go to that.

Change Acess denied to Request denied and we've got a deal.

You have to deal with your obsession with the Principia Discordia....seriously.

Actually the fnord thing comes from the Illuminatus trilogy, where it's used to replace things in censorship rather than as a nonsense word like in the Principia Discordia. Besides, to a very narrow, small set of people, it's very funny.

I guess it makes you a <-> POEE <-> <-> POPE <->
If this makes no sense to you, consider yourself normal.

I am not saying its not funny, I was merely commenting on your obsession of bringing in references whether its relevent to current discussions or not

It's not an obsession. It's just me being bored, random, and partially funny. Anyway, what was this thread about again? Ah yes.
Hrm.
The changeling helpfile thing is a good idea, actually, although I don't see the point in making it so that only changelings can see it.

I thought changelinghing was something that could randomly recur in any race.. and that it sometimes ran in families..
Ialie2006-01-17 16:21:42
I think it can depend on how you rp it. Like Ialie has changeling abilities but she was born as a faeling. Her ability to change isn't something she was born with. She still considers herself a faeling.
Richter2006-01-17 18:36:13
I don't really know how Richter got to be, just that he always was one. I haven't had a cameo the whole time, but I played like I did, since he's changed from human, to faeling, to human, to mugwump. It hasn't been a conscious choice though, and blah blah nevermind read it in my upcoming history.
Unknown2006-01-17 23:01:12
Given the extreme difference between the races, I think the cameo artifact is one of the most powerful of the game, and I'd certainly like to see a Changeling race help.
I've always avoided buying one myself because I didn't want to change my race in an RP sense. It was made clear to me that cameos actually mark you as the cameo race, I couldn't change the bonus to be more of a magical ability while still remaining as a member of my 'true' race. It's also one of my pet hates that people can change race so easily and conveniently, especially because there is so much conflict based on racial superiority and prejudice.
I actually wish changelings could not hide their true race and always appeared as (Male Whatever Changeling) for that reason. But in the absense of that step, a racehelp would be fine.

If I had the money to buy a cameo I'd do the same as Ialie. I like Nejii being a furrikin, even if he's not like the typical furrikin (I.e Estelbar) it's still part of who he is to be furrikin, so I wouldn't want to lose that. I'd be a furrikin who was also a changeling - it'd be a trait, not a race. So I don't think so, no.

I asked about being able to change some of the cosmetic function of a cameo so that it would appear more like a skill possessed by a character of a regular race than being of the separate changeling race, but it wasn't possible.
I suspect that since it actually says 'marks you as being of the changeling race', that is what happens. Not that you might not be more inclined to one form than another, of course.

I'm confused. Didn't Ialie do exactly that? It cost 50 extra credits, but whatever.
Unknown2006-01-18 02:11:36
I don't get it. It's the Cameo that makes one a changeling. Buy a cameo - you are a changeling. Trade in the Cameo - you aren't anymore. It's in the item...

Well of course, but then there's the RP that makes you a changeling too.
