Lately I've been preparing myself for College, submitted my dorm application and all that fun stuff. So, I called today check up on my application, supposedly I was supposed to be assigned a dorm room two days ago but I come to find out they lost it and the 120 dollar fee. Now they are telling me that it'll take 2 to 3 weeks to process if I resubmit and classes start within a week or so. On top of that, they are doing nothing for my housing within that time and so, I am at a loss of what I am going to be doing. The University isn't within driving distance of my parents home, either.

Have one of your parents call and bitch up one hell of a storm. I mean go all out.
My friend's mom was able to single handedly accomplish miracles with her big mouth. It rocked
Zhaneel2006-01-19 03:54:05
Believe me, we've been trying. I've been on the phone with them most of the day and tomorrow, we're going up to the University to speak with them in person, wielding papers with proof of what we've been promised. It just makes me so angry that people can be that incompetent.

But the kicker is, don't be nice. You have to be honest to god terribly rude.
While not something anyone likes to do, it does achieve results. At least as my University where I have the Presiden to of the Residence Halls, I even have to deal with parents and anyone who is causing a stir, flipping out, and just bloody psycho always gets responded to over the nice parent/person.

I wish my mummy and daddy would yell at people for me . Instead, I do it myself. Just be firm and take no nonsense, people respond better to that than rudeness. If it comes to the point where you need to be rude, so be it.
EDIT: I speak from experience. I'm a receptionist and the ruder someone is to me the more difficult I make things for them .

Actually, it works better if your parents do it. Trust me, I work for my university and angry parent threatening >>> all. Although in my case, my friend's mom just pretends to be my mom and freaks out. It is like her means to vent or something.
She also got cable internet hooked up for her daughter in 12 hours when there was a 3 week waiting list. She's good.

Oh I bet it would but I'm past the stage where my parents do stuff like that for me. I'm not against it, I've just been independent since I was 16 and have been supporting myself and sorting my own problems out since. Trust me, I'd LOVE for my mum or dad to deal with some things, but I'd never ask them to.
Zhaneel2006-01-19 04:10:52
Well, I'm certainly not going to take any incompetence from them when I go there tomorrow, this is something right with my life that I have been looking forward to and I'm not going to let them stand in my way or prove those that want me to fail right.
My very angry mother is coming with me too.

Yay! But don't start out angry, be calm and civil and such and such.
Acrune2006-01-19 04:26:51
Yeah, that is a bite. I've been somewhat lucky, haven't had any trouble with it until signing up for next semester, when they dropped my class without telling me, which took away my full time studen status. They didn't bother telling me, but they did bother to send me a credit with for about $150 because I wasn't a full time student any more. Even though I was when I got the credit in the mail. When I called to straighten things out, and figure out why the hell no one bothered to tell me my class got dropped, everyone I talked to pointed me to some other department until eventually I got right back to where I started. People are idiots, just got to roll with it.
Narsrim2006-01-19 04:37:59
Honestly, I'd try doing it myself, but I just can't be nearly that nasty in RL. I'm a nice guy
Plus, my friend hillary's mom gets all psycho and then ALWAYS gets in the mood for Thai food. Who am I to refuse my favorite food for free?

I'm pretty sure from experience that this is the end-all solution to the problem. You need a parent to commence to bitching and they'll find it or make a way for you to get your room.
Tell us about it tomorrow.

Hey I am ridiculously nice (honestly, I'm nice to the point of stupidity), but being a receptionist has given me very little stamina when dealing with silly people and stupid questions .
EDIT: But I would find Thai food hard to pass up. Damn, I love that stuff so much.

I find the best way to do it, is to be all friendly like. Ask them how their day has been, but them in your shoes and ask them what you're supposed to do, if they are of the opposite sex, flirt with them a little, that can get you lots of things.
Or just be downright rude, but if you're gonna be rude, make sure you're nice first. my dad is hilarious he's all nice and stuff, until he gets the wrong answer then he snaps and lets rip. (he's bipolar just like me so he's good at that kind of thing)

He's right. I used to work on the phone, and this one woman called up to complain about something one day. And by complain, I mean she was a holy terror who would not accept me saying that I couldn't solve the problem, and that my supervisor was busy.
Of course, I put her on hold, and went to speak to my supervisor. Stood there about fifteen minutes, finally went back to the phone and said sorry, my supervisor is still unavailable. I could have him call yo- RAH RAH RAH RAH RAH RAH in my ear. So I put her on hold again, went back to my supervisor, and in the end, one of my team-mates pretended to be the supervisor (with the supervisor listening in) and told her exactly what I'd just told her, and settled her to be called back.
Don't be rude if it's at all possible to avoid. We lackeys do not approve.

That's way nicer than I am if someone is being rude or abusive. I tell them if they can't calm down I will hang up, and that's exactly what I do. Then if they call back and are still abusive, I abuse back . Like this one time someone was ringing up calling me and everyone who works here a child molester and I was very condescending and accusing and eventually had them admit that they were actually a sex offender who was trying to reform. That was amusing.
Simimi2006-01-19 22:13:36
Psh, just call them back and as to speak with the registrar or finances department and explain it to them. I work in the communictions department as a receptionist, and one day someone blurts out "Can you get me someone who speaks English please?" in a very rude way, I was all "In theory yes.. in practice... nope"
So maybe being rude won't get you nowhere...samething happened to me but it was just that the mail comes into the uni and sometimes it sits in the mailroom for a few hours/days

99% of the time if someone asks to speak to a supervisor right off the bat, I can fix it myself.
And yeah, don't take stupidity from people. Be firm and polite, but persistant. And if they give you crap, start getting a little crazy.
