Define your character

Alright, as an attempt to give RP in Lust a bit more form and shape, I thought it would be interesting to write a couple of lines to try and define what our characters are. Give things a bit of a shape. Some people ask how to get involved in roleplay, or how to be 'good' at it. Well this is probably the only way; thinking about your character, who he is, and where he's going. Besides, it'll be fun. I'll start.

Verithrax is, most of the time, arrogant and self-centered, but he's capable of admitting he's wrong when someone he trusts tells him that (Note that this doesn't include the people who are usually refuting his arguments!). He is, however, extremely nice to people he likes, and will rarely make a decision without asking people's opinion beforehand. He also shoots for effect most of the time (I wish I could illusion to really highlight that bit of his personality). Every conversation he has is done in a big, airy place and he usually sits on a low branch of an ethereal tree he summoned, with the sole purpose of showing off. He also tends to make up completely bogus theories just for his own amusement. He doesn't consider himself a pacifist, but that's just because he doesn't like the label, since that's pretty much what he is. His primary objective is to improve the pacifist organization which he has (Which is organized as a 'more or less secret' society, and has lots of empty mysticism wrapped around it for style, despite being actually pretty deep and interesting) His other objectives are keeping Serenwilde safe (Although he doesn't think erradicating the Taint is the way to go, so he clashes a lot with the rest of the Commune, even though everything he does is done with the Commune's well-being in mind.) He quite admires Lacostian, even though he won't admit it, is kind of amused at Elcyrion, even though he won't admit it, and is growing increasingly fonder of Isune, even though he won't admit it. He absolutely loathes all the other gods, particularly Lisaera, Viravain, and Auseklis; he thinks Raezon would be great if he just had some morals. He's still very much in love with his wife (Even though she's inactive. He'll continue to be very much in love with his wife until I find someone who's as interesting to roleplay with as Kivati, so I have the feeling his marriage will last a while. biggrin.gif ). And even though he's not a mage anymore, he carried a lot of city culture over with him (He takes baths, wears shoes, and finds public nudity to be even more appalling now that he's a tailor.)

And that pretty much defines Verithrax. He's pretty annoying sometimes, but that's all part of his RP (Which is more that can be said for some people tongue.gif ).
Murphy2006-01-20 06:21:27
Murphy is a large aslaran with an even larger ego. His illusions of invincibility fail to be destroyed even after visiting the fates on the odd occaision. He doesn't have any sympathy for enemies. He is a warmonger, always on the look out for a fight. He doesn't tolerate random affection, snuggling or rudeness and often removes such offenders from the city and their soul from their mortal coil. He has one soft spot and that is his daughter. If in doubt, kill first ask questions later. He can't stand all those who are soft, and looks down on all those who aren't as hard as he is, which is pretty much everyone except for certain warriors such as Daevos and Lyco.

He runs the Dreadlords, which is a training institute for the best warriors in the basin. Always on the look out for new talent, it can be assured that every warrior that graduates will be a top of the line combatant, and capable of leading any army to victory.

Those are usually long-winded, boring, and often out of date. Not to mention poorly written, although yours are probably better than most. Besides, it's always more interesting to look at a character objectively from an OOC perspective when you're analyzing them. And, we get to define our character in vaguely humorous terms, like comparing them to different Star Trek captains. tongue.gif
Veonira2006-01-20 06:42:52
I'm going to be a little brief.

Veonira is a very reserved person, at least in public. You won't see her chatting it up at the Megalith with people she doesn't really know. As most people who know me OOCly, you'll probably know that I'm...well...kind of talkative and random. And that goes for people in other cities, even though I'm friends OOCly with some of them. Veonira's willing to do anything for Magnagora and her guild as well. She's always felt like a mother figure in the guild, and has always been the more compassionate, understanding leader. She loves being a tailor, too. She gets bored when she has nothing to work on, and doesn't like to waste time when she has something she does need to do.

This is all really brief, I don't feel like going into the details (like how Kaervas raping her affected her, *cough Gerald*)
So I guess in a brief summary, Veo is reserved, motherly, and devoted.

Hrm, decided to add a few things that I left out.

It should be mentioned Veonira came from, well, humble means, which she would deny if you asked her being that she's the wife of a descendant from a Great House, as well as one of the more prominent, involved citizens of Magnagora. This is probably why she lacks that "I'm way better than you" attitude toward the serfs in the city, despite her name and rank. And also, along with tailoring, she'll sell to anyone, enemy or not. The way she sees it is--they're going to get it anyways, so the money may as well go to her, and therefore go to the city of Magnagora.
Unknown2006-01-20 07:04:49
Marina is a faeling woman who is a very kind and compassionate person. She, like her husband, believes there is a lot more the world can do to better itself. She used to be extremely hot tempered and would explode at people at the drop of a dime, but as time grew on, she's learned to be reserved and to calmly analyze each situation with an opened mind.

She's very spiritual and faith driven, both in the religion she follows, her Father, and the other organizations she leads. She's very philosophical and is often driven by her desire to attain enlightenment and transcend the limitations of the mortal world by meditating on philosophical thoughts i.e., the meaning of life, the creation/creator complex, et cetera. She's also a very family-based woman and is the back bone of the family, along with her husband. She enjoys being a rogue, simply because she can heal all people, despite where they hail from, race, religion, et cetera.
Nymerya2006-01-20 07:14:00
Nymerya is... hard to define. She goes through stages of being emotionally fragile, or very cold. She can be very standoffish to people, and socially 'proper'.

Has been accused on occasion of being a zealot. Very devoted to the order, and pushing people within the guild to excel. Has a very small 'group' who she coddles to one extent or another. Is -fiercly- loyal to her family, especially Nokraenom. He's pretty much Nymerya's anchor.

...not all that stable. I guess she's known for being a bit waspish.

All in all, I really aim to emphasise the fact she's a devotee of both Nifilhema, and Lord Raezon. Not sure to what extent I suceed.
Unknown2006-01-20 09:20:05
Hrm, I'm kinda glad this came up. I'm been thinking of taking my character in a slightly new direction. Its terrible, I haven't interacted with many people outside of Glomdoring. I really need to - maybe it'll help shape her a bit.:

Nievea is a quiet observer. She'll never really start anything violent, but if she has to, she'll finish it. She's looking for some close relationships, a sort of Pride, that will replace the one she lost a long time ago. She still clings to the customs of her old tribe- if anyone has ever attempted to speak to her in Aslaran may have noticed. At the moment the closeness of the commune and guild has filled some of that void, but not completely.
Laysus2006-01-20 12:22:49
Laysus is a fanatic, who tends to be somewhat arrogant and possibly overconfident. He holds greatly to his beliefs, especially in the following of Mother Moon and the laws drawn up therefore, sometimes a bit too much even. He has no tolerance for what he sees as troublemakers (people trying to become exempt from the laws, youngsters getting on his nerves, generally anyone he doesn't like).

He's very protective of his fiancee, Sivriel, and if you touch her will feel strongly moved to hurt you. Unless you're Murphy or someone like that, in which case he'll be waiting till he can reasonably win a fight against you, then try it.

He's constantly looking back at the old days and thinking about how they were better, and how much less of a cynical bastard he was back then.
Diamondais2006-01-20 13:19:33
Being a bit quick as Im not supposed to be on the computer *cough*

Diamondais is a times a caring person towards people she likes, her friends, family, whomever. At times though she goes through these moods where she is cruel and cold towards people often leaving strings of guilt within her. She has on many occasions had a lot of trouble with her memories, shes forgotten family, friends, her home several times and become paranoid towards certain places and certain people. Shes timid and at times a very nervous person though if necessary she will stand up to her ideals. Never once has she believed the Taint should be eradicated, as she knows many good people within the Eastern Organizations.
Unknown2006-01-20 14:37:03
Personality: Kurt is an idealistic romanticist/heroic at heart, though the mold of his existence is shaped in attribution entirely to the philosophies of Ebonguard martial discipline: resulting in a soft-hearted, stoic protagonist prone to committing outrageous acts to uphold the extremity of what is best for Glomdoring. (Chaotic Good). Although, he will never resort to such without much contemplation. Regardless, though Kurt's willpower and self-control extend to such lengths that he has achieved a constant meditative state in which he conciously engineers his sub-concious, he is not beyond acting in a way that may seem narrow-minded or blind in the name of the greater purpose at hand. Kurt is a masculine-chivalrous entity at heart(though not sexist), and will often refer to more traditional, courtly manners when dealing with women. At times, his constant show of endearment could have others mistake him for a flirt of some sort, but this is not the case: Because of his idealistic nature, Kurt is a man enabled towards(while being disabled towards their greyscale cousins) the more loyalty-based facets of bonding with others: Monogamous Love, brotherhood and comradery. In contrast, the taint has made Kurt's combative/competitive nature into that of a psychotic bloodlust, almost a carnal rage that he barely keeps contained. Kurt manages this insane fighting abandon through constant sparring - every time he forges his skills, or masters a bladestyle, he is taking a better grip on the insanity within. In the darkness, Kurt is a murderer and a mutilator of his victims, finding the greatest extents of violation and defeat for the enemies of Glomdoring. It is that mixture of self-control and lunatic thirst for battle that makes Kurt a warrior of serious potential.

Current Status: As an Ebonguard Kurt makes due for his future as a servant of House Wolf, finding belonging and capability within the ranking and social society of the Pack. He is deathly loyal to his superiors, whom he considers such on a basis of intelligence, wisdom and battle prowess. Referring to these men and women as 'Masters' and 'Eminences', Kurt absorbs the knowledge and experience of others around him - compiling what will become a mountain of keys to open all the doors of fate he seeks. As a teacher of wyrms, Kurt is stern and closeminded, giving his pupils no quarter for personal vision that in any way obstructs the purpose and intent they must serve as Ebonguard, nor the service such provides to the great commune of Glomdoring. This strictness knows little refrain, and Kurt is not beyond a good cuff to a defiant male pupil now and then. Despite this fact, Kurt is also a giving and guiding mentor - offering his own secrets of the trade to his students now and again. In the end, it is the ideal of Champion 'Master' Lyco represents that Kurt pursues and respects, and intends to challenge him for the right to that position in the far future.

History: Kurt comes from a small, detached Igasho tribe that had been in the mountains south of Gloriana when the taint struck. This tribe suffered similar changes that the forest did - though spared the majority of the 'blast', a portion survived. Kurt is the first generation male after these 'malformed' Igasho, his physical appearance and increased size an attest to that fact. He was taken into Glomdoring by Daganev and Raguel at a young age, where he has served as dutifully and questionlessly as he would in a much more primitive tribe society.

Aiakon2006-01-20 14:41:09
Aiakon has a background. Go read. *chuckle*

He is a son of the last Great House of Magnagora, and he draws his lineage right back to the first Viscanti. As a result, he has an aristocratic bearing and is staggeringly arrogant: intellectually (due to a long and expensive education), and socially (he regards the vast majority of Magnagoran citizens as bourgeois parvenus who have risen ignobally into the power vacuum left by the decay of the old aristocracy). Though arrogant, Aiakon is when necessary, socially flexible. He understands that the old privileges of aristocracy no longer apply in their entirety, and when necessary he will fawn and bootlick as much as is necessary to achieve his ends.

Aiakon hungers for power and dominion, but he does not see this merely as a personal goal but, frequently enough, a communal one. When Magnagora profits, Aiakon profits with it. When the Geomancers grow in power, so does Aiakon. When another scion of the d'Murani house gains rank and prestige, Aiakon shines in the reflected glory. As a result, his behaviour might have the tendency to seem a trifle paradoxical... he wants power, but he does not choose to undermine the institutions in which he holds office by abusing it. He wants money, but he will not skim huge quantites out of the Guild shop. In short, Aiakon is not a risk taker.. he prefers to pursue his powerlust by short and safe steps, rather than making leaps which may go awry.

Aiakon shares the Viscanti distaste for the Elfen and Merian races. However, he finds the Merians particularly disgusting because of their racial affinity for water, their general greasyness, and the feculent ooze which issues from their pores. He also dislikes the Furrikin: firstly because he regards the manner of their creation as a complete botch, secondly because he finds them racially dishonest, untrustworthy, and lazy. Aiakon despises laziness.

Underneath an urbane (if that's what you can call it) exterior, Aiakon becomes much more complicated. The Taint is so much a part of his body and soul, that Aiakon can see no other conceivable way for the Basin. Increasingly, he loathes those who will not accept his way of seeing, though he knows that to publish this too outwardly would be disasterous for him.. so it only shines through his manner on certain occasions.

Edit: Bah. Forgot to mention the wife. Aiakon is married to Aabtria.. an arrangement of almost total political necessity, since she is the sister of the Warlord, and a member of the Feyranti family. Their relationship is cool.. sometimes icy, but though the marriage is loveless, they are united by a common ambition which makes them on fiercely loyal to one another, and their schemes are hatched in unison.
Aabtria2006-01-20 15:00:38
Forgetting me, mmm? I fail to be surprised.

Aabtria... mmm.

Very, very, very ambitious. Has no interest in combat, or hunting. Thinks those obsessed with levelling, transing out a stupifying number of skills, or killing simply because they can are disgusting.

Yet, I would not say she was overly politically minded. Has a frightening network of 'friends', that she will use to better her husband, prefering to allow him to do all the work.

Seduced Aiakon whilst he was almost criminally young, in order to acheieve her own ends. She conceieved a son, who was given to someone else. Then used his existence to force Aiakon's hand in marrying her, as no other man would take 'spoiled goods'.

She does not hold overmuch affection for anyone (Except her brother.), and mild distaste is probably the best way to describe how she views everyone except Daevos.
Shaeden2006-01-20 18:03:20
Shaeden is a Druid gone Celestine priest who is devoted to Justice. He hates corruption and is not afraid to speak out against it, but only does so when he thinks it will achieve anything. He's a scholar at heart, and loves the outdoors. (can take a Merian out of the Wilde, but ya can't take the wild out of a Merian) He likes to keep busy, which being an Undersecretary does. He hates mindless violence and until his conversion would not strike at anything sentiant. Since then he has started to view Tainted creatues as no longer sentient thanks to Celestial dogma and he is slowly falling to the ideas of Metherenton, which he would have laughed at when he was young.

Ooh, he also hates written law infavour of Trials based on Ethics, but realizes that won't work for large societies.
Exarius2006-01-20 18:34:23
Exarius is pure feline alpha male, with an ego the size of a small galaxy. He firmly believes that the aslaran are the most enviable of all possible mortal races; that life was meant to be lived for the sheer joy of it; and that women are the greatest invention since the invention of invention.

He has no tolerance for those who speak false or for anyone who would try to tame him.
Archthron2006-01-20 18:49:24
My character thinks people in general are idiots. He generally avoids them and almost never asks others for help. This is partly because he has a strong feeling of self-reliance, which is mirrored in the fact that he has, over time, accumulated the skills to provide almost all of his needs. He also believes that people are very gullible, and often acts either ignorant or innocent to get out of sticky situations. He has very little regard for rules, and is annoyed when others let their own rules get in the way of his goals. He believes in self-betterment, but has yet to improve on his own parsimonious and self-aggrandizing complexes. He is almost always courteous in public places or talking to people he doesn't know, especially when they are customers of his. Indeed, he takes great pride in his business, and likes to feel rich. Last but not least, he has a spiritual hole in his life because the one deity he really respected, namely Auseklis, has been missing for untold years. He's been waiting for Auseklis to return for ages, but the Serenwilde has been increasingly leaving behind Auseklis' teachings and beliefs, which may or may not have something to do with his cynical world view.
Everiine2006-01-20 19:17:24
Everiine is... quite, though once you get under his wings, he'll crack a bit. He's never been able to find a place that fit him in the world, as far as he knows. After coming through the portal, he had to begin relearing everything about himself. He knows from hsi appearance that he is of mixed blood, most likely being more human than Trill. He's not particularly strong or tall or fancy.

But Everiine knows that he loves nature and will do anything to protect it. He doesn't feel right in the mountains, though that's where his people come from. While most of his guild take the paths of totems, Everiine instead chooses to serve the forest as a hunter, keeping the forest safe from dangers within it. He doesn't travel with much, except his light armor, sword and axe, and a few other basics. His only true prized possessions are his silver pipe and the ring Solarus gave him.

If you see Everiine in the road, he will greet you kindly, acknowledging you even if you are from one of the less-friendly places to his forest. He believes that he shouldn't kill someone simply for existing, but if they threaten his forest or those he loves, swift and deadly action will be taken. He will stalk you to the very ends of the realm until you are he is dead. The Fates almost greet him when they see him he's been there so often, but death does not frighten him if he dies doing what he believes is just.
Arix2006-01-20 20:14:24
Arix is....well, Arix. That's pretty much as far as I'll go without revealing any of my plans
Shamarah2006-01-20 20:17:19
Shamarah is a ridiculously self-righteous merian. There are really two sides to his personality, the side that his friends see and the side that his enemies see. To his friends, he tends to be considerate and helpful most of the time, but to his enemies he is almost completely without mercy (the times mercy is shown are generally because I feel OOCly bad. Shamarah might have loose morals, but I try to not ruin others' gaming experiences)

He absolutely refuses to listen to any argument that goes against what he thinks about ideals, particularly the taint, and usually won't even bother arguing but flat-out tell the other person that they're wrong and to shut up and go away.

While he believes in certain ideals and values like justice, he is also often hypocritical in his interpretation of them, applying them to certain situations and not to others. For example, he tries to be as fair as possible in dealing with citymates (though this is not always successful) but completely ignores these principles when dealing with the tainted, judging that fairness and mercy do not apply to the tainted because they are below scum.

He is fiercely loyal to Celest and Hajamin but his loyalty to Hajamin has been dwindling in the god's absence. He's felt somewhat estranged from most of the Aquamancers for a while now. He has no real racial loyalties, and is willing to change into whatever race suits him at the time and makes him better able to fight and slay the taintscum.
Richter2006-01-20 21:25:01
After a year of roleplaying, I've still yet to write a history, but here's the gist of it. I imagine this will be terribly long. smile.gif

His history starts with a man named Draest Carthan, who was living during the time when the taint was released. Details are sketchy, because I've not had to write them yet, but he was either an elfen or a changeling, and when the taint struck the land, he became either one of the first viscanti (not quite the race we know today, but more like a tainted, winged elfen), or a tainted changeling.

However, he was still fiercely loyal to the forest, and continued to protect it. A short time after, a great tainted beast came crashing through the forest (possibly some kind of taint wyrm, or some such creature) and he tracked the thing across the land. They battled at the moonhart, ethereal, back down, and over to Magnagora (or maybe from Magnagora to serenwilde). Draest was finally given a choice by some yet undeveloped and unnamed person: to recieve more power that would help him destroy the creature, or to remain the way he was, and the beast would continue on its rampage. He chose to destroy the creature, but was killed anyway, and was later laid to rest near the mother moonhart tree.

But his spirit lived on...

A very long time later, we have Richter Carthan. A twenty-nine year old within the portal of fates. When asked if he remembered his race, he had a feeling of dread, and a dark voice within himself. He managed to put that down, lied to the fates, and said he was human. For some reason or another, he did indeed come out of the portal as human.

He joined Serenwilde, Auseklis appointed him a guild secretary, but long story short, he didn't get along with his guildmates, and they made decisions without him, so he came to distrust them. After tweaking out at the moonhart, and not remembering any of it, (there's a post in ye old serenwilde news about the prophecy he made that someone put down. I know, it's cheezy). He felt drawn to the Megalith of Doom after remembering it looking white, and while he was there, a dark tendril of energy shot out at him, changed him (he had a black aura for a few days), and now he has somewhat clawed hands (didn't make him tainted though, just his appearance and mind went a bit more screwy). After that, he went a bit nuts, quit Serenwilde (was enemied because he'd accidentally drawn too much power that day, like 30, and Guido had just overdrawn and left as well, about 100 or so). Thus, he distrusts Serenwilde, and his appearance is explained.

He joined the Disciples of Crow, but was a little more behind the scenes than the rest of them. From the nonsense that went on (there were eventually four or so clans, etc) he starts to become more dark and cynical, but nevertheless continued his efforts to restore Glomdoring in private.

Richter was a Magnagoran citizen for a little bit, while they were on thier "free glomdoring" crusade, but he had a falling out with them, because Valek wanted to do it himself, and eventually killed Richter in front of a group of Magnagorans (killing other citizens was against the rules...), and so I was kicked out eventually, and Richter realized (true or not) that Magnagora's leadership was being manipulated like a marionette.

Glomdoring was founded, he became first admin of the Ebonguard, blah blah blah.

In his relationships, he's pretty much given up hope for a normal one, having been left by Arilyon, Yukari, and (well, we were only kind of together) Nepthysia. He found Lirathea, and though she's a part of his life, he'll never be a huggly cuddly guy, and he's lost the sweetness in him from the past failures.

The most important part about Richter, however, is the fact that he's possessed (cliche!) by the spirit of Draest Carthan. That was the voice that tempted him at the portal of fate, it was the thing that caused his blackout at the Moonhart, it was him that prompted him to run to Magnagora to the Megalith, to change to faeling when they got shadowlords (Draest wanted Richter more powerful, and he was too weak), back to human, to mugwump, and it was he that eventually helped subconsciously reveal that he was a changeling. Draest made Richter go after the seal of chaos to try to steal it, to smash Deepnight into prime (Shikari almost killed me for that one), he's the cause of me flipping out and killing people for little reason. He also prompted Richter to search under the moonhart tree, and there he found Tetra, the elemental scourge (the serens were pissed tongue.gif).

And yet Richter hasn't figured it out. And since he can't seem to remember anything of his past life, he strives to create a new one for himself. He's built himself his own home, his own financial empire, and though he takes pride in it, it all feels empty. The only real joy he has is talking with Karrah, and putting his will into every corner of his realm. He doesn't have delusions of grandeur, he has aspirations of it.

Lastly, he's a Raezonite, and always has been, but he follows Roark's teachings, and knows them better than anyone else's. Most of the things that he does are either because of Roark's Principles, or some past event in his life.

In short, everything has a reason.

If you've gotten this far, you deserve a cookie. This was almost a year and a half of character development, and he's one twisted dude.
