Guild Wars: Factions

Back to The Real World.

So, yeah, this weekend is the preview event for the Factions expansion of Guild Wars where they're showcasing their two new character classes (Assassin ninja.gif and Ritualist mage.gif ). For this weekend it's free to download and play the game, even if you haven't bought the original, so I'm just wondering if anyone else is going to be playing. I have GW but haven't played it in a while and I figured I'd try playing around with it again since it is pretty fun.

It's times like these when I hate being on a Mac.

I tried to play it. And then I got to the point where I need real people on my team to advance through the arenas, and of course got stuck there. I've never been any good at getting teams. It's why I don't really play the game much in the first place.

So yeah, there you go. I rolled up a Ra/Rt to play with that's fairly entertaining. Made one or two small changes to the skillset and have enjoyed using the character on the few occasions on which I got to play.

Yeah the party finding system is immensely flawed... I think the idea is everyone has a full active guild so that you can call on your guildmates to help you quest. But it doesn't work like that in the majority of cases. Trying to find a good party on the ring of fire is impossible.

I wouldn't even know. Furthest I ever managed to advance was just before ascendance, when you have to do those three trials or whatever. After that, my ability to tolerate BS finally gave out and I haven't really played ever since. Stupid PUGs and the vast majority of people that create them...

I actually liked the ascension missions...

And it's not that the missions are flawed so much as that the people are flawed.

Yeah I got the game but I cant play it anymore until I get my other computer fixed. But its got assassins now eh, guess I can start playing again and delete my IW mesmer/warrior

Assassins seem to be lacking something, though I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm surprised at the lack of assassins, since the North American culture is oddly and suddenly obsessed with ninjas (ninjas originated from China, yet you don't see me all ninja-happy).

Ritualist on the other hand have a full arsenal of well-rounded skills. Plus the female ritualists are hawt.

Assassins are very powerful, actually...

Haven't really done much with the ritualist though. I'll have to play around with that.

I suppose I had too high of an expectation for the assassins, but they seem to work better solo then with a team.

Ritualists are a mix of ranger's spirits, monk healing, mesmer afflictions, necro spells, yet very unique.

Oops, doubled up.

Blah to Guild Wars.

Play World of Warcraft. Its sooo much better.

The Assassin I was playing was pretty crazy. If you could land a 4-hit combo, it wiped out just about anyone. Only problem is, that's really hard to do when there's two teams of 5 running around on the screen.

A lone assassin would be far easier to use than one in a group fight, from what I could tell.

Okay, ritualists are really, really awesome and that is all I have to say.

By the way, Balizar - WoW and GW are two completely different types of game. I don't know why people insist on comparing them.

I think everybody mentions WoW because it's now considered the "Gold Standard" of MMORPGs today.

My annoyance with the Ritualist is that it is far too easy to negate their summons - just walk away.. and then they can't do much, because the spirits sit wherever they're summoned.

That's what you have movement-hindering skills (and teammates) for.

EDIT: By the way, if anyone else plays, my name on there is Shamarah Naralias - well, that's my main, but if you add me to your friends list you'll see when any of my characters are online.

True, but the pre-built characters are somewhat limited, and the version of the Ritualist I played had no hindering other than Wander Lust, which is a spirit in itself, and able to be walked away from tongue.gif

I would try this too if it wasn't freaking expensive as well. dry.gif
Unknown2006-01-23 02:03:42
It's not that expensive. You the game, that's it, no monthly fee.
