Huh? And you can't ride giant eagles.... Furrikins and faelings can't ride dogs?

If its a hunting comapion, and its the right size, you can ride it.

Really no point in discussing trap tactics, its really very simple with the skills given to a tracker.

Not to mention that a love potion makes the whole situation mute.

How does someone lust you when you are in a room with traps set waiting for them?
Daganev2006-01-23 21:09:33
Not that difficult if you are a tracker.

It isn't hard to break a demesne either - if you are a mage or druid.
Daganev2006-01-23 23:22:01
Are you kidding me? In a village influencing, you just need to place sanctuary in a few spots and its impossible to break the demense.
Unknown2006-01-24 00:23:25
Which is obviously an exploit, and will hopefully be fixed.
Terenas2006-01-24 06:30:57
I sent in quite a bit of ideas Icarus suggested for Tracking that will make it a lot more appealing but won't make it too ridiculously overpowered. Hope they go through. pray.gif

And that's what happens when certain other people give their "rant" talk about hunting.

Perhaps. Make hunting a replacement for athletics and I will no longer have to give this rant, now will I? happy.gif

Or you could stop force feeding bad information for the sake of the betterment of your novices smile.gif

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Shadowlord with Night.
Unknown2006-01-24 17:20:02
No, but its VERY wrong to force people to play what you want rather than what they want.

And Hunting in place of Athletics is retarded. How can you climb mountains with your bare hands, but be unable to control your breathing, or even sprint? Being at your top physical condition is the only thing that makes sense - I'm betting it takes a pretty high level of physical health to manage digging a 10 ft pit, let along climbing mountains faster than anyone else, climbing trees on your own, diving on your own, so many skills that involve physical exertion.

There is a problem telling people the skillset is "bad." First, the initial skillset is AWESOME for novices. It makes them gold, gives them easy transport, etc.

Furthermore, there are people who like Hunting. Icarus was pretty good with it - far better than he was with Stag. Traps are also wonderful for group situations like village influencing.

On a side note, I hate the idea of Moondancers with Astrology. I think is detracts from the ancestral practices of the Moon Coven given it is a new "science" of sorts. However, there are lots of people who love it - and if they love it, that's great for them and I'll just stick to what I like. That way, everyone wins.

Daganev2006-01-24 17:46:05
Hunting is only great for novices if they don't have weapons, otherwise its just confusing! And we give all our novices weapons.

I don't say it's bad. In fact, I will even say that it DOES have uses. But RP-wise, it's an appalling trade.

Forcing would be telling them that they either choose totems or get removed from the Ebonguard. ICly, I have never done that. Instead, I give them my RP reasons for why I think that Totems is the clear choice. Some listen, some don't.

And I actually see hunting as being a different form of physical exertion than Athletics. Instead of training your body to peak performance, you choose to spend less time with personal training and more time with "external" options. Instead of flexing your muscles, you command a pet to shred your enemies. Instead of surge, you drop them in pits where they can't even fight back. Physical exertion, yes, which is why it is a perfect alternative. Two different skills that tax your body in different ways.

It would definitely need quite a few modifications, but I can see it working pretty well for a race that doesn't require surge (orclach and the like).

You realize that most druids take hunting, right?
