I have to get 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed in a few weeks time :<. I'm scared. I don't like not being able to eat and drink!

I would have to get 4 out, except somewhere along the line I lost a tooth and didn't notice. So, it isn't there.

Aww hug.gif from what my friends tell me it doesnt hurt much to have them removed (Im too young to have em removed, and I dont think I have any yet..) though I know what its like to have trouble with eating and drinking due to how much pain your mouth is in. Braces do that when adjusted.

Please don't remind me of braces. Those things hurt. I still have my permanent retainer that's about half as old as I am, for gods sakes.

On a side note, I still have my wisdom teeth and probably always will. I'm one of the lucky ones, apparently.

I lucked out and only developed 2 wisdom teeth for some reason. For those with more, you get quite a bit of sedative and you look like a chipmunk for a few days due to the swelling. Post a pic! evil.gif

Retainers are annoying, end of discussion. Ive cut people with it and its bloody glued to my teeth (I bite people when I get really irritated)

It depends if they're impacted or not as to how bad you are after the operation. All of mine are impacted, so I expect pain and swelling and a bad temper.

And no, no picture, you evil woman!

@diamondais - Same here. Piece of wire glowed to my lower teeth on the inside rather than the outside of the tooth. I've managed to break it off once (caramel related incident, I think), but since then it's always been there. I don't really notice it either way. Just kind of irritating.

That must suck. My retainers are just pieces of plastic which I only have to wear every other night. tongue.gif

Stop hijacking, I want sympathy for my impending pain!
Diamondais2006-01-24 02:32:53
hug.gif Get better soon, pray for no chipmunk faces and pray you never have to have a retainer or braces because its several years of the pain youll feel when you get them removed

I can't decide if I want to read up on it or not. I know that they have to cut the gum away to get to the tooth and drill and hack and whatnot, and I'll have stitches, but I've avoided all detailed knowledge.

I don't imagine what else would it involve, you summed it up pretty well. I can only add it's painful as hell. laugh.gif
When anaesthetic wears off that is.
Acrune2006-01-24 02:49:42
Lucky for me, mine came out easy. Hardly any swelling. Good luck, and enjoy the ice cream. happy.gif

My wisdom tooth are actually perfect.
The position of my teeth isn't so I am receiving not so gentle pressure from my mother to get brackets put to set them straight and regular.
I am 25 years old, fgs, I am not going to get my mouth to look like a teenager. Even less for an entire year.
Unknown2006-01-25 15:03:13
Upper Wisdom teeth are easy (I had one of mine removed) in fact was the least painful tooth extraction I have ever had. However Lower Wisdom teeth can't be wrenched out they have to be cut out, which is much more painful.
Unknown2006-01-25 17:07:14
I got mine out before XMas this year. It wasn't so bad because I had a fun IV sedative induced sleep. happy.gif If you put ice packs on your cheeks for the first day you shouldn't have too bad of sweeling, and your doctor should perscribe some serious pain killers (a la T3s) so don't worry too much.

I'm more fearful of drugs than the surgery itself. I left mine in. 3 came to the surface straight, one never appeared, but all are straight. I fear nitrous most of all.

I don't like intoxicants at all. In fact, I had an upper endoscopy a few years back, and unlike most people I didn't have the "conscious sedation".

me either. when i go to the dentist i refuse to use novacaine. and luckily other than that i've never had anything besides going to the dentist to get a filling that would normally have some sort of anastesia(or however it is spelt?) or pain reliever or anything like that. i once pondered asking the doctor to knock me out before getting a shot done, though, because i terribly hate shots.
i probably need braces, but i'd refuse to get them even if they said i need them anyways, i don't trust doctors in general.

and goodluck with your oral surgery, quidgyboo!

I got all mine removed a couple summers ago. The lady dripped blood on me, and I woke up in the middle of it (they didn't knock me out, I just fell asleep) and felt them rip a tooth out, and I looked like a chipmunk on crack. However everyone else I've talked to had no problems whatsoever, I just got unlucky and apparently on a 1-10 difficulty scale mine were a 9. Honestly, it doesn't hurt that much. My parents even took away the pain killers and just gave me tylenol and I was still ok. You can eat and drink too, you just have to be careful and can only eat liquidy foods/soft foods for the first day or two at least. It only took me about a week to be almost completely recovered.

And on the subject of retainers, I only wore my top one for the first month after I got my braces off xD, and my bottom one is cemented in. My teeth probably aren't -as- straight, but it's not really noticeable.
