Okay, this virus is stopping me from clicking any links or right clicking right now so I can't see that properly but I thought -I- had too many icons, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Seriously man, your kitty is suffocating.
Shiri2006-01-24 15:28:35
The kitty is cute by the way. What do you replace it with?
EDIT: And while I'm at it, what is your avatar? It reminds me of something. x_x

You people have too much crap on your desktops... I can access anything from my start menu quite easilly, and it's all organized. My desktop is just there to look pretty and hold temporary documents.
Unknown2006-01-24 15:32:19
You all are missing the point of the desktop - it's where you are supposed to store whatever you need right at this moment, which is not to say that you ever have to remove it once you are done using it. Another purpose of the desktop is to collect all the shortcuts that installers insist on creating and you are too lazy to manually skip in wizards. Cleaning all that is an entirely preposterous idea.
Almost as preposterous as the suggestions, I sometimes hear, concerning a tidy work desk being cool. How difficult could it be to understand that I actually might need an old Ethernet card at some point in time, and that having it gathering dust right next to the monitor would be a true blessing then?!

While I wholeheartedly agree with your logic on all points, I also remember when something on my PC crashed, or I accidentally right clicked and reordered it, and then I couldn't remember what order it was in originally, so I got stressed about it and it bothered me for weeks. So I try not to let it get -too- long.

As I said, I replace it with something brutal and manly... like the default XP wallpaper with green hills and blue sky
And the avatar is a from a movie, but I won't tell you which one.
P.S. As for ordering stuff on the desktop, I actually never use anything there for more than a day or two. After that it goes in some folder (which I have a neat topical hierarchy of), on the quicklaunch bar, or in the Start menu. Can't remember when was the last time I launched Mushclient from its desktop shortcut - I am too used to doing it directly from its folder in Explorer. And I don't think I even have Office, OpenOffice, or Firefox shortcuts on the desktop, though those are probably the apps I start and close most often... Oh, I do have a Firefox one.

Gah, don't make me look it up!
Laysus2006-01-24 16:16:19
Would post my desktop, but at the moment, I have lots, which I flick through at will!
Acrune2006-01-24 16:54:07
Aren't you one to live on the edge?
Unknown2006-01-24 18:17:13
Oh yeah, I noticed Skye on some desktops. Someone call me! I downloaded it weeks ago and have never used it.

So Deepnight is only a temporary thing? Whew...I thought we were going to have to suffer that place forever.
Richter2006-01-24 19:18:08
Heh, I just update that map so often, it stays on the desktop. *nyah*
Unknown2006-01-24 19:45:15
Here's mine. Notice some very weird icons and a very cool background - the Death Star Man.
Marcalo2006-01-24 20:05:39
How do you make the back ground pics? I'll post mine if some one tell me.
Unknown2006-01-24 20:08:37
Like to take the picture? I dunno.. I've been hitting Ctrl + PrintScreen. Then you'll have to open something like Paint or some art program and paste it. Make sure you save as jpg or you might end up with a picture almost like 1 MB in size.

Ok Jethro Tull are good, but why every song twice?
249804
Because Winamp is stupid. I only realized that today, and cleaned up that playlist. Even though I do have some songs in more than one CD.
Richter2006-01-24 21:50:46
Print screen prints exactly what you're looking at, alt+print screen does just the top window, and I don't know what ctrl+print screen does.

Well, I'm sorry..
(Just kidding. )
Richter2006-01-24 22:12:21
I've just never tried ctrl+print screen, no clue what it does. *shrug*

I don't know. I don't use it like some people do so I was just hitting what I thought it was.
