I'm going with the Nihilists.. but I'm still reading.

Edit: Ooh. Quite liking Hartstone's as well.

Hmm, hard to say, I think I'd go with Blacktalon's.

How do you judge a 'good' HELP GUILDNOVICES file anyway?
Aiakon2006-01-28 11:47:07
A fair question. I'm mainly asking.. because I changed the Geomancers one in a fair hurry when I took over as GM. I -really- didn't like the one we had before... but I'm not completely happy with the one now.

I guess the best GUILDNOVICE file is the one which best represents the guild it belongs to, to a novice. It's all very well to say: you can learn these skills.. and that sort of thing.. but actually, a fair degree of a Guild's RP character can, and should be conveyed in them. The best ones do this well.. the worst.. clearly haven't been changed in many many decades, and are antiquated and unhelpful.

Forgot these even existed, tbh.

Nihilists>you.

Psht. Honestly I always really liked our old one. I feel like it fit the guild way back when, when Lusty first started out, but I definitely see how it doesn't fit now. Plus Mary wrote it, and Mary = awesome.

That said, I like the Nihilists or Hartstone. I like some other ones, but not as much because they mention help files and I'm not a huge fan of that :/.

Mary...? who dat?

Our old one was all happy families and happy homes, and you'll be valued here. Personally, I'd prefer to go with the: you'll be tortured and beaten and have an awful time but in the end, it will be all worth it. We've got it still on a Guild clan though.. and if anyone wants to reinstate the old.. (woe betide them if they do).. it's not impossible.

Mary was the most awesome Geomancer ever. No offense <3. She rocked my world.

Anyways, I see the need for change. The guildnovices was outdated, because it was back when we had minimum requirements that people were forced to do, and when I was GA and I was much, much nicer than you. In a good way, of course.

*chuckles* I don't think i've looked at the moondancer one. I agree the file is best used to convey what your guild is about, what is expected of a novice, etc. But not for a novice who is already a member, that's pointless fluff, but to try and attract novices (or higher) who may be unhappy with their current guild.

sorry if you disagree but a guildnovices file seems best reserved to try and attract non-novices and maybe give a slight instruction.

The moondancer one, which i litterally just looked at, talks to the novice as if they are a member, i like the "Who are the moondancers?" bit. But any moondancer should know what ghelp to direct the novice to, and after that your kinda looking at a summary of the mentioned file.

Expanding on the "Who are the moondancers?" section, focusing it towards non-members, and adding in maybe a paragraph on how advancement (post-grad) currently works would improve it.
This lets a lost novice know if the moondancers are the guild for them, and also tells them there is a way for them to advance within the guild. And while directed at an outsider this would still provide information of a new novice.

*chuckle* sorry if i'm being rude or anything, i'm tired and i wondering if this annoying newb is out of my manse. (grr to "rp"ers who can't figure out you don't talk ooc in an ic environment)

I disagree a little that it's best for non-novices, because I feel like it's a lot easier for a non-novice to either have heard things/know things about the guild in question, or to know who to get in contact with in the guild to find out that information. Real novices/newbies are more at a loss on how to find out info about the guild's ideals and what not.
Saran2006-01-28 16:45:01
actually that was a mistake on my part, I mean't to say something along the lines of guildless novices or novices of other guilds who mightn't be happy with their choice.

It might be a little dangerous for a new... ... Blacktalon to say "Umn... what are the Paladins like?"

I remember Mary! laugh.gif She was at the arena one time when I got out of a fight and was re-deffing, and she started taking notes to see whether my being an Aquamancer made the spells different from her version as a Geomancer... she was cool.

Mary rocked biggrin.gif

Only saw her once, but she rocked biggrin.gif

Mary = <3

I was considering updating the Moondancer one back when I was novice secretary, but so much else has always come up needing to be dealt with that I haven't been able to get much work done on that. Not that Moondancers need anything to draw more novices ... we get plenty already, thank you! wacko.gif
