Back to Common Grounds.

If your ship is not docked on the prime plane, it will still gradually use up power (even if its docked somewhere else). Your ship will eventually run out of power and implode, reforming back at the dock on the prime plane. Thus, your ship won't ever get "lost in space" without you--it'll eventually return home.

Eep! Good to know that. I know of someone's ship that might still be docked on Water. Hope he gets back and moves it soon if it is.

I wish turrets could target at the same range they can fire, instead of just in the room with the creatures. There's already the balance recovery from targetting before you can fire that makes things a bit tricky. Oh, and I wish if you targetted one type of creature, it would attack that type of creature and not just the single creature of that type it picked to target. If you've got 4 hydrians around, you have to target, fire fire fire until it's dead, retarget on another, fire fire fire until it's dead, retarget on another.... wacko.gif Or maybe advanced combateers will be able to do that at least even if not all of us will be able to.
Unknown2006-02-06 10:01:47
Aye, combateers definitely need advanced targetting abilities

You know, before this came out I didn't majorly notice the balance the Admin teams puts into the game. Lusternia has one of the most majorly fluctuating credit market prices on the market, which promotes people to by credits OOC because of all the cool nifty things they release that are gold only instead of credits only to buy. This in turn means there are more credits out there cheaper for all the younger generation to buy and raises the general power level of everyone just by association of releasing something as awesome as this.

Just a question... this empath thing... Isn't it from Dune?
Unknown2006-02-06 10:32:08
I think that was a bit different... I really get a Farscape feel more than anything, though everything is still unique and perfectly Lusternian.

I wonder how ship to ship combat is going to go? Has anyone had a battle yet? I'm somewhat concerned that all the defense/curing falls on one person, while offense is handled by up to three, but I haven't seen how it all works in practice yet.

So umm... if people travel around all over and dodge monsters in aetherspace and they generate, do they ever reset? I swear some areas have 20+ creatures in tight areas now.

this has been covered as well, Roark said that monsters follow better now AI-wise, but they also auto-delete if there isn't a ship nearby.
Unknown2006-02-06 10:58:03
Hmm, I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I think that if it isn't too difficult code-wise, it would be nice if the Empath GRID command could be used while docked.

I assume it doesn't so that ships can't fight around an exit point and use it as a refuge as soon as they start to get in trouble, then heal completely up (GRID REPAIR MODULE) again. However, GRID JOIN would be phenomenally handy to use before you get out into aetherspace. Maybe the 'block' while docked could be on REPAIR, not on the root word GRID?

I have just thought of another concern...

If you ram a ship that has a shop in it, is there a chance you're going to end up in the stockroom? unsure.gif

No. It should exclude those rooms,
Lisaera2006-02-06 16:01:11
We were going for the idea that the ship is alive and sentient, but not in the usual way. For it to function it has to be joined to the minds of the crew aboard it, who guide its actions and it then actually does the things. Hence why modules have their own balance rather than using yours.

Not to be a critic or anything, but in my personal opinion, that is EXACTLY equivilent to a futuristic spaceship, and takes a lot away from the fantasy feel most living ships have.

You've read too much Robin Hobb, Shorlen

I just thought of something:

Of course the gnomes are not Ferengi. That's Richter's job.

If this can still be done in an aethership, it's going to make raiding one very, very difficult. happy.gif

Already working on it, which is why my ship map is classified. Just think what a hell it will be when you're facing me on my ship:

-I have a script that lets me instantly move to any room
-I've put aether stakes down in the major rooms, and hidden all exits (crew has the map to memorize)
-I have reinforced steel doors
-Ram room can be sealed off
-I know my way around aliases that let me change exits and switch perms whenever
-I can instantly lock you in a room, provided I have the balance to drop a flamed monolith, and leave
-Traps
-I have Murphy smile.gif

QUOTE(Folkien @ Feb 5 2006, 05:41 PM) 254591

So alias exit creation and destruction. And be holding lots of gold...

Already did that. smile.gif However, he is correct in stating that it must not cut anything off and have at least one exit. On a small ship, that's hard if not impossible to do.
Narsrim2006-02-06 21:58:42
Who wants to bet that that as soon as ship combat really starts up, you won't be able to move to rooms or reweave rooms in mid-combat?

Darn right it is. smile.gif Now get me my latinum!

(by the way, has anyone noticed "Richter's rules" feel very similar to the "Rules of Aquisition"?)

Just everyone who ever watched DS9, Richter, including me. And I'm not even in that clan!

I don't see why not, they're still manses, still linked to us, just that they've now got an entity inhabiting it. If anything, this providers a deeper bond, a sort of mental collaboration.

Well, there will have to be ways to break down doors, etc. If there wasn't then it wouldn't even be possible to figt.
Richter2006-02-06 22:49:20
Just like there's ways to break them down in a manse? Cause we still need a way to fight, right? tongue.gif
