Well, there will have to be ways to break down doors, etc. If there wasn't then it wouldn't even be possible to figt.
Mages have a way already. Which, incidentially you can buy as an enchantment. But it only works (efficiently) on cheap and crappy doors. Like, amusingly enough, the locked doors into my study in the Geomancer Guildhall. Presumably Richter will have paid the full 50k for the best doors money can buy.
Richter2006-02-06 22:52:52
I have three. As far as I know, they're unbreakable. Feel free to prove me wrong!
Anisu2006-02-06 22:56:28
There will never be a way to break down reinforced steel doors, else you could just enter any shop.
Unknown2006-02-06 23:00:03
I'm guessing there will be abilities in the Aethercraft specializations that make doors (other than into a shop) no longer a problem. Most likely in the combateer spec.
And I agree with Narsrim, I think its pretty safe to say changing your aethership around while in flight will probably be changed. Its just too silly otherwise.

Richter2006-02-06 23:06:11
My aether stakes will still confuse them! And there better not be a skill that disregards 50000 gold spent. I'd be all kinds of sad.
Unknown2006-02-06 23:11:02
Well, otherwise what is the point of ramming?
Aiakon2006-02-06 23:12:14
I guess it depends where your ram ends up in their ship? I mean.. if everyone piled into the room with the command module.. then you'd be.. for want of a better expression up a certain creak, paddleless.
Richter2006-02-06 23:20:25
My question is, how do they enter? Is it a direction? Can they hit the middle of the ship?

Not to be a critic or anything, but in my personal opinion, that is EXACTLY equivilent to a futuristic spaceship, and takes a lot away from the fantasy feel most living ships have.
Err... why?

Just like there's ways to break them down in a manse? Cause we still need a way to fight, right?
Oh well, I can beam and conclave people out of monolith rooms so what do I care?

As I understand it, its a random room in the target ship, anywhere except a stock room.
I suppose you could just keep ramming until you hit the command module, but I really think its silly to think that doors/manse abilities will simply allow you to ignore a boarding party until they randomly hit one room out of possibly a dozen.
I'm thinking some of the combateer skills might be like leading assault teams, cutting holes in the ship's substance to move between locations that are blocked, maybe even being able to locate the positions of enemies and gaining a weak, delayed flow-like skill to get to them.
Question: Do the external ship battles (firing at each other) still work while you are rammed?
Richter2006-02-06 23:29:43
In that case, I think it would be infinitely amusing to have Deepnight as a ship. I'd just spend an hour laughing at the boarders.

You can also siphon the enemy ship's power if it is rammed (which is the whole "pirate" part--i.e., stealing something). Boarding enemy ships is just a perk.

I don't understand how it will work though if people can just reweave exits or whatever or even just have reinforced steel doors, etc.
*sniffle* I can't take on enemy crew as slaves if I can't get past a silly door.

Question - Does Conglutination work for rogues? Or do you have to be tied to a Nexus?

It should take you to the Portal of Fate when you die, like Teleport Nexus.
Roark2006-02-06 23:59:28
Ramming does not open directional exits. You use the ENTER command on a thing the code places in each room. I believe the target ship has a breach, so ENTER BREACH. I forget what the ramming ship gets in it. If you board the ship, you can summon people out of modules, which not only takes them in for the kill, it also forcibly unlocks them from the module. Though looting power is probably the primary thing. If you have 10 energy collectors all manned at once then that could be quite brutal to a ship with low reserves, especially if someone summons the pilot out of his module so he can't breakaway quickly.
Unknown2006-02-07 00:02:04
Nifty. So Rogue crews are actually plausible.
