Ramming does not open directional exits. You use the ENTER command on a thing the code places in each room. I believe the target ship has a breach, so ENTER BREACH. I forget what the ramming ship gets in it. If you board the ship, you can summon people out of modules, which not only takes them in for the kill, it also forcibly unlocks them from the module. Though looting power is probably the primary thing. If you have 10 energy collectors all manned at once then that could be quite brutal to a ship with low reserves, especially if someone summons the pilot out of his module so he can't breakaway quickly.

So, the rammed ship can escape? I guess the ramming/unramming must be delayed... but does the external battle still rage while the ships are connected?

Another thing: Trying to get in the same location as a nearby ship is hard enough... with cloak they are essentially invincible. Will cloaked ships be able to be targetted and fired upon?

Edit: And that would be so funny if a raider jumps over into a rammed ship, and then the victims writhe off and escape... the attacker becomes a prisoner of war! giggle.gif

Didn't Estarra say that Commanders will have the ability to trail ships, while Empaths will have the ability to detect them at a distance?

I'm guessing the ability to really engage in ship combat won't come until the specializations.

Also, I get the feeling that the Cloaking module is only going to prevent so much of the possible detection - like a gem of cloaking. People with a Gem are still easily findable if you're looking for them specifically.

Aye, I hope its more like that.

Wouldn't that be blocked by a simple monolith though?
Unknown2006-02-07 01:56:13
Can you only have one of each artifact attached to a module? So, like, no stacking wheels on the command chair?

You've read too much Robin Hobb, Shorlen

Lies! Robin Hobb is one of the few Fantasy writers that I will buy a book of no matter the topic. Hell, I would go so far that she is probably one of the best in the field for this generation of fantasy writers.

Moonlit study.
This glittering chamber below the library appears as if it has been constructed from a large hollowed onyx sphere. Embedded within these walls are thousands upon thousands of tiny diamonds arranged to mimic the unfamiliar constellations of Starhaven's endless night sky. A large crescent-shaped moonstone imbedded amongst the diamond stars radiates with an unknown source of soft light that gently illuminates the area. Leafy vines of ivy intrude upon this quiet room from the library above. The vines curl and twist down a set of spiral stairs, losing themselves amongst the lichen and moss that covers the entire floor. Sitting against the wall is a single bookcase that displays a few misarranged books and miscellaneous trinkets. On the verdant floor are two fluffy sitting pillows obviously meant to provide comfort to the weary. A finely wrought mahogany chair stands here. A great mahogany writing desk rests here with its gilded drawers closed. A giant jovial wombat stands here on all fours. Sparking with arcs of power, an energy collector spirals up from the floor here.
You see exits leading west (open door) and up.

Do you get experience for blowing up baddies?
Unknown2006-02-07 07:44:49
Yup.

I really should join a crew.. unsure.gif

Yeah, you do now, but it's still fairly minimal at level 79, so it's probably not much anyway.
Unknown2006-02-07 08:03:11
I'm quite convinced that manses will be changed to only allow modifications to its layout while docked, once we see ships boarding eachother frequently.

not just at 79, I had a group of myself (79), a gunner (65), an empath (50) and another gunner (45-50) and none of use recieved any noticable xp with harmony blessings up and everything (though I suppose it could be harmony doesn't aid in ship combat)

So for XP bashing, space really isn't worth it, but I go anyway cause it's so freaking fun.

You do realize that each kill was divided betwee 4 people in this case.... now how many kills did you have? I'm going to guess under 20-30. If you repeated this except bashed gorgogs, you'd find similar results, I imagine.

I would gain 1% per 12-16 gorgogs with four people there, roughly. You know how many we killed, and I didn't get anything.
Sidra2006-02-07 09:50:56
How long ago did you do it? Didn't Roark post saying that XP had been 1/10th of what it was supposed to be, but that it was fixed?

Was your last space-bashing trip before or after that?

I did it before: no one got any %. (Kaervas didn't get any essence, which is numerical, so I actually assumed there was 0 exp, so I bugged it.)

Then I did it after: Narsrim got 1%, no one else got anything. So it's there, but low.
Kaervas2006-02-07 10:17:09
When I can get on later I'll take a crew out to kill something and see how much essence I get.

just a thought about siphoning, if you had 10 siphons with the arti on them all, couldn't you just ram/insta kill another ship in 5.5 seconds?

I know this, however this doesn't change it's not the best option to be bashing xp with. kiss.gif

(The best way I have found so far is still Astral, get a big tank like Ekard or Morik and let the xp rain in.)
