I'm still a little worried about the creature decay time.
Rather than waiting to be clear of targets for a certain amount of time, I think they should have a definitive lifespan, after which they disappear on their own. It's really, really difficult to collect any power at the moment, unless you generate a swarm and leave it behind you for the next person.
The monsters are just spawned too frequently.
Alternatively, have an empath skill that for a few moments dampens your wake, so you don't summon creatures by moving.

ok...this may have been answered somewhere in the 24 previous pages, but how does making an aethership work? i understand you hatch an egg, and the entity merges with the manse, but does it merge with only one room, or does one egg turn an entire manse into a ship? i remember reading somewhere about Richter having two ships inside Deepnight, yet Deepnight isn't a ship (right?)

The entire manse becomes a ship (docked at the Aetherplex) and that room becomes the Command Module (complete with the Command Chair). By activating other modules elsewhere in your manse, you, well, get more modules in your ship
EDIT: And (Richter, correct me if I'm wrong), Richter has two manses. One is Deepnight, which is not a ship, just an 'aethercity,' and the other is 'The Stroke of Luck,' which is just a ship.

The egg turns the entire manse into a ship. There may have been some confusion when I said that I had an airship in Deepnight, which was just several rooms, like any other place. That ship is gone and is now the Stroke of Luck manse/ship. I told everyone I deconstructed it and reconstructed it elsewhere. The other possibility of confusion is the two ship thing, I think one time I mentioned that I wanted two more smaller one room ships that bore the DNS marking, but weren't actually inside it, just allied to it, like Suhnaye's ship, and my current one.

ahhh, thanks for clearing that up for me. i hope to get the gold for my own someday (or at the very least, help crew one) its so lonely sitting on the Prime plane and looking up at the sky thinking about all those ships moving through the aether to places unknown and far away....*drifts into a lethargic state*

My first aethership experience was decidedly... spammy. If I'm a gunner I don't necessarily want to see every room that the ship goes through, if there isn't a skill higher up that gags that I think there should be.

CONFIG MAPSHOW OFF. Helps.

Edit: Shiri gave an alternative
Still cool though
Unknown2006-02-18 23:54:28
It apparently defaults on the off setting, but still crazy spammy. I couldn't even read the ship channel.
Shiri2006-02-18 23:55:51
You just read slow then
Unknown2006-02-18 23:58:12
The Princess Marilynth is like 6 rooms and our pilot had paths going, so no, not really
Shiri2006-02-19 00:07:02
Dia's manse is like 7, and occasionally the pilot has paths there, and I can still cope easily with maps off...
Soll2006-02-19 01:20:36
You're complaining with maps OFF? No way! Piece of cake with maps off. It's a godsend when you're used to having the mapspam and having to try to read.

Also, if you haven't already BRIEF will work on cutting out the aether room descriptions.
Shorlen2006-02-19 01:55:46
Look in the mechanics section for info on how to capture channels in zMUD to another window. Helps sooo much for this.

I can't tell you how pleased I am that Lusternia is the first IRE game to develop a ship system. As per the announce, I hope you find the system unique in terms of requiring a skilled crew that is able to work well together as well as the entire module system. I'll be wanting more feedback when we turn to the specializations, but please post feedback here on how you are initially finding the mechanics.
Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of aetherbubbles right now, but we do want to add more. You'll find the aetherbubbles are generally for fairly high level players (as we don't imagine low level players to be the main users of aetherships). We have tried to make it interesting with the random aethermonster encounters and being able to siphon energy vortexes for power.
And remember if you are cornered by a swarm of gorgogs, remember ...
Hi Estarra,
I think you should make these aether ships work off the wilderness map system in other IRE games.

Er.. they do.

just wondering when we can expect the specializations to premier, I'm anxious to take combateer and see what fun will come of that I absolutely love this system and can't wait to get more time out in aetherspace
kinosh2006-02-27 11:25:57
I've seen entire forums with less posts than this one topic...
Suhnaye2006-02-27 14:10:32
Yeah, whats the ETA for the specs? I imagine now you know what you want them to have in em, they can't be too much more than two or three weeks off... Unless your having some painfull issues on tryin to figure something out.
Oh, also, I still think Aether creatures should give more experience when ya kill em. In normal hunting, if you have six people with you and your killing gorgogs or Astral stuff they're getting a very small amount of experience, true, but with six seperate people, one or two are tanking most damage and the others are fairly safe. Theres no risk of the ENTIRE group getting whiped out by one critter, or even a group of critters. Its true that as long as the captain of the ship your on keeps their head and is good at piloting theres little chance of dieing, but I think the kills should be more profitable.
