Erk, no!

Oh come on... Ensign whatshisname? Shiny clothes? Captain's chair?

I really do like the idea of pirates, though, even if the conflict that would cause might be unwieldy.

As for faster transportation, fair enough; although maybe it would be good to give a means of escape so people wouldn't get stranded for extensive periods of time. (Of course, you can just heartstop/attack a strong critter and conglutinate/pray, if you're desperate to go back)

The pre-designed manses wouldn't have one room, they'd come in more sizes. The point is that they'd be just ships, and wouldn't have all the features of a real manse, but would be cheaper, and look less silly than a big floating manor/garden/forest/city/whatever your manse is.

Docking ports would be great. Letting people go from ship to ship, and letting ships dock on manses instead of portal chambers. I want Deepnight to become a DS9 equivalent. Maybe really large aetherships would be reclassified as 'stations' and allow quick transportation to Prime, no matter where they are in the Aetherways, by means of a special artifact?

EDIT: A way of pulling normal manses into the aetherways, so they turn into autonomous aether bubbles, while still retaining their portals?

man people are complaining all over all my clan channels.... is there a shipoff or shipsoff? I -love- hearing the ship communications, but somepeople don't...

Actually, this isn't so much related to Aethercraft, but would it be possible for Artisans to be able to craft Figureheads for the aetherships, in the room where the ram is, since that's obviously the bow of the ship? Just a thought, it would add in a reason for people to ask for unique designs from artisan.

I really don't think those are supposed to be heard by everyone.

Adding an artifact for manses, called the Aetherdock, would have to be placed in a single exit room, and would allow Aetherships to dock onto the manse, a nd exit it like normal, though only one ship can be docked at the manse at one time.

It would be nice if there were a way back home.. Even if it took 10 seconds.
Unknown2006-02-04 08:27:35
I think that makes it more.. adventurous to be able to head out like that and have a hard time coming back.

With the Empath specialization it'll be much easier to get home I'm sure.

Have you ever heard of Hspace, Estarra? It's a space system for MUSHes with a build in Econ system. I only recently started playing a game with this stuff on it (A Firefly MUSH) and basically, you go to a cargo office and select a job (or you're given one randomly), and then you need to deliver the cargo to where you're told and get paid for it.

I think this is a better system than just to keep on topping up city and commune comm stores, though if you were delivering to a village, it's conceivable that some of that would trickle down to the controlling City/Commune. Basically, you would get paid in a new sort of currancy, which can only be used in the bubbles (so that you can't become outragously rich with gold), and is the only type of currancy that you can use in the Aether worlds.
And each person who is active and on the ship's crew while doing the job would receive a small % of the pay. What I'm thinking is slight upgrades in engines, weapons, repair systems for ships, but also mini-arti's that will decay (but reset and be unstealable) for players, and maybe even "items of the year" which don't really have any use, but are collectables and don't decay. But yeah, I think the most important thing would be the purchasable upgrade, without the need for credits.

... Did any of that make sense?

Coming back should take as long as going out, I like it.

Maybe the Commander one, actually... since they're the navigator.

The Empath can like, make everyone feel good. Send waves of sensuous energy to the crew. whistling.gif

It shouldn't be easy to return, but it shouldn't be incredibly frustrating and nearly impossible or require people to keep crazy details of directions in order to backtrack perfectly. A homing beacon thing that would give you a general sense of direction back to dock would be nice without making things too each, I'd think.
Unknown2006-02-04 08:35:39
... I've actually just thought of an idea, seeing as each village pays a tithe of comms to their ruling organization, what about having a fully equipted organization ship having to come and pick up the tithe from the village in aetherspace, and deliver it back to port, by fully equipted i mean, 3 turrets, grid, and enough rooms to store them all, as well as 2-3 room extra. If the ship is destroyed before making it back to port, the ship that destroyed it gains, the Tithe and can carry it back to their organizations, or in the case of pirates, sell it off to the highest bidder.

Since it tells you in which general direction the docks are (atleast it did in those logs I saw) perhaps you could sail magnagora|celest|serenwilde|glomdoring, and it would take you in that direction. Not instantanious, but not monotomous either?
Unknown2006-02-04 08:39:32
SAIL TO *org* By slowly navigating the water, you can automatically sail towards the designated organization, though it takes a second or so per room you move, and if your attacked, you stop moving.

Else, be able to have a Bookbinder on the ship, and chart your course, which gives you the ability to SAIL TO *bubble*, which will do the same, but to bubble's charts you have in your hand, these would work for any commander, which would mean they can be sold.
Suhnaye2006-02-04 08:40:35
Hmm... I'd like to first say this whole thing sounds amazingly cool. wub.gif Estarra&Roark

Second... Can we please be allowed to buy the eggs and whatnot with credits -or- gold, rather than just gold? This is going to drive credit prices to the floor...

I like the idea of allowing extremely large Aetherships to become stations, able to dock other ships and allow transport to prime from any point in the Aether.

I'd also like to see a skill for allowing two ships to dock to one another voluntarily. rather than having to ram. If both parties agree, and the ships are close togeather, they extend a gantree and are able to cross between one another... Both ships would need a room with a gantree or docking port in it. Such a port would also be needed to dock to a station.

Also, I love the idea of a bookbinder being able to make a chart of the Aetherspace explored by a specific vessel, and allowing the navigator to see the position on the chart.

How can that possibly be a bad thing?
Unknown2006-02-04 08:43:45
Manses should be able to become stations, not Ships, seeing as they'd be basically indestructable, just not very fast.
Verithrax2006-02-04 08:47:41
I like the idea of Aether charts.
Simimi2006-02-04 09:05:14
I am pro anything that helps bookbinders prosper, being a bookbinder myself.
I like that everything needs gold instead of credits, it gives those people who do not buy credits or can not, a chance. and might help out some of the up and coming fighters with creditgain as the market cheapens a bit. Though I only have like 21,000 sovereigns, and 35 credits to my name....it is clearly not so much money as so many people can already afford the ships and such. I vote yes to gold and no to credit...

One gold will always be one gold, 3.5K will not always be 1 credit, things in gold, are always better then things in credits, since they change what they are worth.
