Is there anyway to guard against heartstop? It keeps killing me...
Rather, is there anyway to stop someone from using heartstop? I'm assuming no, at least for people who have focus mind, but you (I) never know.
Thanks.

I'm laughing on the inside...

Lawl. I'm going to guess you don't know what my idea is behind this.
Do any afflictions hinder heartstop, at least? Other than Aeon slowing it down, the only one i can think of off the top of my head.

amnesia would prevent heartstop as well, basically the only thing that I think affects heartstop is things that affect any command.
Aeon, stupidity, amnesia, Divine mandate...

Heartstop was added -because- you could completely hold someone down and remove any chance of escape. Being dollwhored is as about as unfun as you can get. Heartstop makes it so you can just be like "Screw you then, I'm going home," without having to quit out of the game and get issued for it. Any real way to stop it completely defeats the purpose of it.

Yeah. Understandable. I wouldn't want to prevent it for a malicious reason, but I see why it needs to be.

Alias "heartstop" to "laugh".
Then alias "YesIreallywanttoheartstop" to #send Heartstop.

Genius.

Does that actually work? Since the heartstop command doesn't go through your client, and instead works within the game, I wouldn't imagine that would be possible.
Unknown2006-02-22 01:35:44
I think heartstop should be delayed. And take around 15 seconds to work.
Because there are some idiots who use it when they see they are losing, just to deny the victor the win they deserve.

Maybe they can code it so if somebody heartstops in the middle of a battle a recent combatant gets the same experience if he wins the battle

Use an in-game alias. They exist, though not many people actually make use of them.

Thought that was the whole point of heartstop - don't let your attacker get xp. More for RP's sake since you end up losing more dying to heartstop anyways.

And what is wrong with that?

I think the intent is more for weird situations like getting locked somewhere or affliction locked... and for lichdom.
Daganev2006-02-22 02:02:07
or just being stuck in a room.

If you kill someone, I expect that you are rewarded for it as the game demands.
Heartstop provides a mechanism for griefers (yes, I said it) to circumvent the transfer of experience that occurs after a successful battle.
If you are going to die anyway, what is the difference between killing yourself and letting the other person finish? For you, none whatsoever. For the victor, they are cheated out of both the satisfaction of landing the killing blow, and the consequential experience bonus for winning a PK round.
With a delay of around 15 seconds, you can still heartstop to get out of being utterly locked up and screwed. You can still heartstop to avoid being 'taken alive'. You can't use it at the end of a battle to screw over the winner.
Daganev2006-02-22 02:33:36
And why should someone who has bashed a lot but isn't very good at combat be easy pickings for any griefer who wants to level up by killing people?

They're easy pickings with or without heartstop. You still lose the same amount of experience.
Shamarah2006-02-22 02:37:50
That's a silly argument; it's a relatively low amount of experience you gain even from, say, a Titan (I got 5% from a kill on Athana... that's not very much to miss out on) whereas they lose significantly more from heartstopping, compared to the normal cost of conglutinate at least.
