So far, I've drawn (By hand) a map including the immediate area around the Aetherplex, extending down to magnagora, glomdoring, and then to the Candyland bubble. Also north from the Aetherplex, and west a bit... It takes up a space about 4'/4' on my wall right now... Its acctually quite cool to look at and think of where I've got to go explore next to fill in another section... Though it takes an insane amount of patience to draw it. Anyone else trying to map the place? By hand or otherwise? It seems like trying to use a normal mapper would be damn hard, as normal mappers have to go into each room... It'd take a month RL just to map the whole path from the aetherplex to Mag or something...

Oi, by hand is tough. More usable output though, I guess.
Have you seen the other thread? Avaerin Aether Cartography is my attempt.

Nice! I've had to redo my map like three times because I kept getting the distances wrong and muckin it up. Eventually, once I have a wider range on the drawn map, I'll make a smaller version so its more usable. I imagine before too long, this map will take up my whole wall. Aetherspace is rather massive...

Seems the sort of thing it'd be silly to do by hand. Get a script to track all coordinates from where you are and copy the absolute contents (i.e. including ansi colouring) to a file where you can then use it from. Or something. I've not slept in 22 hours so I'm not too coherent.

Do you or anyone else know how to do that with VBscript and Mushclient? If not, I'm stuck with doing it by hand, because I don't come even close to good enough with scripting to do that just off the top of my head.

You people are insane...
Suhnaye2006-02-08 08:12:08
Only to everyone else.
Shorlen2006-02-08 13:33:52
I want to do it by hand, and then photoshop a map...
I need to get 1,000 by ? graph paper, and then to mark random coords and go from there.
Anyone know how tall Aetherspace is?

We play a game made of words. Of course we're a little nutty.
Soll2006-02-08 19:42:33
And spend thousands upon thousands of pounds on it. Quite nutty, if you think about it.

I don't spend that much money on it. You know what I spend too much of?
You have played for a total of 104 days, 20 hours and 20 minutes.
This week you've played a total of 1 days, 15 hours and 37 minutes.
Time.

Ugh, you even beat me. That means you've played like... 8 hours a day for the last year! That's sick.

What programs are you using to make those neat maps?
Daganev2006-02-09 20:20:55
If I were doing it, I would copy and paste the map as I moved around and past them into a program that pulled the ansi info
Richter2006-02-09 20:23:59
Copy/paste? You know how long that would take? How easy it would be to get off as you pass through a large area of one color? I think automapping it would be the only feasible way, sounds like he's doing some version of that.
Soll2006-02-09 20:31:27
Wish I knew how though, heh. I started just doing it manual. Move one, copy new line. Move one line, put on map, move, put on, move, put on.
Quickly fell out of alignment, darnit.

Richter2006-02-09 21:43:29
Exactly, especially when you have a 100x100 space of on color, and you're doing ten or so lines at a time.
What a nightmare!
