Well, a friend of mine and I had talked about this idea quite a while back, but since I came around the forums, I thought I'd see if there would actually be any support for it before I scrambled to try and raise hundreds of thousands of gold.
What I'm considering doing is posssibly starting the equivilent of a radio show/newspaper.
The way this would work would be through the use of a clan. People who want to be a part of it would join the clan and be put on Probation, which stops people from talking, but allows them to hear the channel. The equivilent of "taking a call" would be taking those people off probation to allow them to talk. It sounded fun to me, and you could have different hosts, and themes to some shows, while others could just be for anything and everything. It would also allow people to vent against others in an IC way There might be dues of 50-200 gold per year, since I'd like to see contests and such similar real radio shows.
The other part would be the newspaper, would probably be 2 times an IG year. For maybe 2000 gold you'd get a lifetime subscription - basically a pamphlet which would be edited every 6 OOC days to hold the new paper. People could buy ads both in the paper and on the actual aethershows. This subscription would also get you inducted into the clan automatically.
Anyways, yes, I know someone tried the reporter role and failed, but they didn't go quite the right way with it, I think. With this method, rather than sticking my nose in org secrets, I'd report on the global issues and get the people themselves to raise and argue over points.
But none of it would work if people weren't interested in participating.
So, what's the verdict?

Been tried 3 times allready...
Do it if you can do it, but don't ask the forums for help.
edit: Charismatic people can get things done that otherwise would not work.

Not asking for help - asking for opinions on whether or not anyone would be interested.
Daganev2006-02-09 20:17:54
But thats what I mean.. people might say they are interested, but then they flake, or someone might say they are not intrested but once you start doing something they will be .. oh this isn't what I expected , looks cool!
Sidra2006-02-09 20:18:43
True.
But I have 19 charisma, so i'm set!

it sounds like it could be an interesting idea, but i'm rarely about and so probably wouldn't be able to do anything with it. if you could manage to get the clan and things i'm shure you could get some people to join, but make shure you have ALLOT of stuff to say beforehand, i've tried making stuff like that before, it doesn't work if you don't have plenty more than you'd think you'd need.
Asarnil2006-02-09 20:33:28
I'd settle for the LusteRadio to be back on.

If your forum avatar is actually you, Sidra, sure, I'll help.

True enough. Charisma is the only thing that glues certain orgs together - The ESA, despite Amaru, was an example of that.

Aw, aren't you adorable
And no, that's Sidra my character... I unfortunately don't have a professional photographer to take gorgeous pictures like that of me. I wish I did though
Though I'm thinking of getting my hair done like the picture. Its so pretty. I currently just have it dyed black with red streaks though.

Seconded.
And yeah, this has been tried before, it's a good idea, but it's hard to pull off. Barry tried it, and got himself enemied to people that didn't want him reporting.
Perhaps if you had one person from each group reporting...
And the whole dues thing, screw it. I own six clans that have dues, and no one ever pays them. I actually got rid of dues on a seventh, and just made it a 15k induction fee. I get the same number of members, and I get the gold as well. No one pays dues around here. And mine are only 100 a year!
You could try it, and I'd be kind of interested, maybe. Not sure if it will fit my character when he finally goes good (not that I'm leaving Glomdoring or anything, but it's almost time for this round of my RP to conclude).
Good luck either way!
Sidra2006-02-09 22:21:49
Well, now I posted my actual picture in the Player Pics 1 thread, so feel free to ignore the fact that my avatar is far more gorgeous and send me lots of gold anyway

You are such a liar.
Everyone knows that girls don't exist on the internet.

Erk! My secret has been revealed...
...I'm a man, baby!
...damn.. where's an Austin Powers smiley when you need one
Asarnil2006-02-09 22:46:24
Though that girl in that picture is cute enough, you just have to convince her to move to Australia, for access to the Aussie Magnagoran studs instead of whereever it is she lives.
Simimi2006-02-09 22:57:59
I like your idea hun, I would join it just to get to listen in!

I'd so join! I've always wanted to be a reporter of some sort!
Mirk2006-02-10 03:15:31
this actually sounds like it would be a fun idea, and I'd probably try to help if I could.

Yeah this is attempt number 3 I think, Hell my manse is even set up as a Broadcasting Studio. Good luck, but you will find it MUCH harder than it seems. Its a really interesting idea and we need to get it going in game but people seem to be a pit apathetic to it. Maybe if there was more of an in game coded version (no I am not suggesting the coders drop everything to code aether broadcasting) which people could just turn on an off, without using a clan spot and with some nifty uses around it, maybe it would be more successful.
Asarnil: Lusternia Radio is still up, just only when we have DJs and at the moment thats pretty much Me and Laysus, and being both British thats a massive restriction on time. So poke people to DJ and it will be up more, or heck volounteer to DJ. Note the DJs don't have to be Lusternians I have opened up the offers to players of the other IRE games so you can poke your old friends from there as well.

I think this is attempt number 4 actually. Barry, Dyr, and Akraasiel. Or did Dyr never even try? Maybe that's my memory going wrong.
