Ok, I got to thinking about Maelstrom and Pollute, and how completely worthless they are, and make mages even more reliant on their demesnes. So i thought of this new ability to replace it. It's a work in progress sort of, so don't complain about it, just put CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts and input.
Syntax: GEOCAST EARTHFORM
Power: 10 (Megalith of Doom)
The pinnacle of a Geomancer's life is when he or she transcends their abilities and takes on an Earthen form. The power of the elemental plane imbues you with a bonus to constitution(1) and intellegence(2)-on the Water plane you will actually have -1 constitution and -1 intelligence. Being an Earth form will also save you from death, sending you to the Megalith of Doom upon death, though in a weakened form(reduced health and mana for a short period of time). Will not save you from death on the Water or Celestia planes. Can only be used once per lusternian day.
------------------------------------------------------------
That would be the Geomancer skill, the Aquamancers would be the same, just written for an Aquamancer(eg, Aquaform, Water plane). I think it would take some of the focus off of demesnes and replace the currently worthless skills. Thoughts?

I like it, but that would mean i'd have a actual reason to trans aquamancy. Le gasp!
Daganev2006-02-14 02:22:22
Should make you come back to life next to an earthlord of your choosing... Tidal lord for Aquamancers.
And your race should say (A stoned Human) or (A watery Human)

Stoned human? I like it.

I don't know, I'm sort of over the (important thing)form which gives you bonus stats. We've got stagform and crowform already.
What about something that allowed you to join another mage's demesne, and if you have enough geomancers, do something special with it?

The race should say Male Human Earthlord.
Maybe have the trans skill give you a better version of staff, and have it be able to cast with power attached, IE a 5 power cast that either does a. more damage b. damage plus a random affliction c. damage that returns maybe 50% of the damage done to your health (not going over max of course)
The 50% is an arbitary number which obviously would need to be looked at in regards to game balance so you bastards don't have a crack at me.

Psh, but Mages have nothing, so mages would be the only ones to get it. You guys already have Transmigrate.
EDIT: Oh, and Murphy, Earthlord would be assuming we are as powerful as the Rock Lords. We'd be more like DemiEarthLords.

Heh, fury is just as worthless.
Acrune2006-02-14 02:40:52
I like it, but it sounds too good. Not that I'm complaining. 11 con and 22 int would be nice

Hmm... how about only a slight change:
Syntax: BREAK STAFF
Power: 10 (Megalith of Doom)
Surround yourself with the true power of the elemental forces, becoming the centre of a devastating maelstrom. For a short time, all enemies with you or in an adjacent location will be ravaged by the raw elemental fury which you personify.
So, for about 20 seconds you get to cause constant damage to enemies in your room or adjacent to you. There would also be a chance of slicing them with tainted stone, which would reduce their maximum health by 10% for a few minutes. Also, the battering and bruising of the maelstrom would also cause minor wound damage across the body.

But then you still have the problem of having 0 mana, 0 power, and no staff in the middle of the battle... which is why a lot of people never use it in the first place.
Unknown2006-02-14 03:17:39
Well, I dropped the mana requirement. I think that is suicide.
The no staff and power problem is manageable. It also doesn't relate to demesnes so won't interfere with those effects.
The damage I'm thinking of would be about 750 every 4 seconds or so. Then you've got the mage's active abilities + demesne on top of that.

Seeing as it's 10 power, plus another 10 power for the staff, and only your room and adjacent rooms, it's so not really worth it, it's possibly going to be worse then actually pollute and maelstrom, seeing as they at least go through the whole demesne, not just 4-5 rooms tops. Then it's also for only 20 seconds as well.
Honestly i like the Elemental idea, and since druids get StagForm and Crow Form, why cant Mages get Elemental Form then? Though it should be 'male Earth Elemental' or 'male Water Elemental' rather then Tidal Lord or Earth Lord, since they are in fact mobs.
Also i'd suggest having a +2 int and +2 con when on the aligned plain, thus +2 int and con for geomagi on Earth, and +2 int and con on Water for Aquamagi, ohh and increase staff raise when in that form?

Murphy2006-02-14 06:25:51
i think it should be a nice high health and mana regen while on your aligned plane, and added stats across the board, no-one really fights on earth or water at the moment.
Unknown2006-02-14 06:29:23
Heh, just keep in mind the bonuses given by the existing 'forms when you're planning this.
Murphy2006-02-14 06:50:04
then have it for mages only, and druids can just go shove it because they have transmigration and the whole fetishes and smudges skillset (i can't remember the name right now, i'm drunk) and SAP
Unknown2006-02-14 06:57:46
I meant, use Stagform/Crowform/Drawdown/Nightkiss as standards of what this skill could give. Since all of them are 10p skills.
Unknown2006-02-14 07:06:30
+1 int and con normall, and the extra affect to raise staff, like 10% more, +2 int and con, on their aligned plane, thus Earth for Geomagi and Water for Aquamagi, and not changing anything else, leaving their regens the same, or giving all druids/mages +1 health n mana regen while in their demesne's or something.
Murphy2006-02-14 07:24:50
i think the whole boost to stats on aligned planes are silly, since it will hardly get used. Perhaps give em an extra int or con if they cast it on their aligned plane.
Unknown2006-02-14 07:53:14
+1 int and con, anywhere, and +1 level regen while in their type of area, thus, flooded or rivers/seas for Aquamagi, and Wasteland, tainted*anything* for Geomagi, though tainted doesn't include Glomdoring, which is now wyrd.
They can have normal stats though when in opposing areas, thus in Elemental form, a Geomagi would have normal stats if he was in a sea, river, or flooded area?
