I took the day off (I'd requested it off in December), went and picked up my kind-of-but-not-really girlfriend. I gave her two presents, a plush lobster I named Lucky (the name and the lobster itself are both inside jokes), and a $50 gift card to a particular store half of you aren't allowed into.
We drove from Oak Harbor on our island, to another island, to take the ferry to a third. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=ea...46,1.373291&t=h . The island we went to is the horseshoe-shaped one.
We played tourist, browsed around, ate lunch at an expensive restaurant overlooking the water, drove a bit, and took the ferry back. We officially got back together too.
We drove to the "store" and got some "stuff" as well, then drove back to Oak Harbor, watched Something Like Love, which was actually a great movie. We had some Taco Bell at her place, because all the places in town were packed.
All in all, it was a great day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner together, all kinds of fun.

I watched a really funny skit on the daily show discussing 'The war on St. Valentine's day'.. I found it very funny because me and my fiance were on a media block to stop hearing about... since we don't really care much for christain holidays.

Christian? It's a commercial holiday

I'm Jewish, holidays don't get to be defined by just the past 50 years of activity.
St. Valentine's day is the day St. Valentine got his head chopped off for illegally conducting marriages in some empire. (acording to the daily show.. I think they said Corinth but I don't remember)
Just to clarify, it has the word "saint" in it, its a christain holiday.. yes that includes st. patricks day.

Saint Patrick's Day and Valentine's Day no longer have anything to do with religion. Christmas, however, does, and should.

Yes all bow down to Jolly old Saint Nick and his elves. We will have reindeer blood communion and eat the flesh of frosty the snowman.

You are, by far, the most intolerant person I have met in all of the Lusternia playerbase. This surprises me, given your religion - I always thought christians were the stereotypically intolerant ones. My jewish friends and family are never like this.
Daganev2006-02-15 19:03:11
What the hell?
Its intolerant to not practice other people's religions?
Great to see that your so intolerrant that your willing to call me intollerant just because I respect my herritage.
I think its a weeee bit more intollerant to tell me that I have to accept the establishments of the Christain church just because over the years non-religious people enjoy the holiday.
But whatever, I'll stop expressing my feelings.. apparently thats only allowed to be done by people you agree with.

I was thinking more of going to advent services for the four weeks before christmas, the buildup during the entire season in sunday services, the children's programs, the christmas parties, the christmas eve service detailing Jesus' birth, and the christmas morning presents from the family.
But sure, reindeer blood and frosty flesh, I'm sure they just overlooked things, and that's what christmas is all about.

If you posted a topic on Yon Kippor, and I posted a reply saying that we non-jews don't celebrate it, and non-jews shouldn't celebrate it, you would call me racist, I garuntee it.
Many american holidays were born of Chrstian ones because America was created due to Christianity. It is our past, even it it is not the religion many of us follow. To use an example you'll understand, it is like an Israeli who converts to Bhuddism and then refuses to participate in any Israeli celebrations because they are of jewish origin, not israeli, and he is not a jew, and then urges all other Israeli non-jews to do the same.
I know nothing about Israel, so that might not even be a valid analogy, but oh well

Daganev is an expert at twisting someone's words so they're almost unrecognizable, and throwing them back at the person who said it. This only usually serves to confuse us, and has no real purpose. I'm almost convinced he doesn't even read our posts.

Just to clarify St Patricks day is just an excuse for the Irish to act like they matter , and for everyone to go get wasted on green beer. Nothing religious at all.

It is! Nah I was just trying to say that the religious aspect in christmas has taken a backseat to the santa, reindeer elf, christmas tree theme.

Agreed, but there is a much deeper meaning there that some peolpe still celebrate.

If you told non-jews TO celebrate Yom Kippor, I would call you a fool.
And yeah, its a bad anology because all Israeli holidays are related to Israel, like the day it was founded, or memorial day. I would not expect a non-jew to celebrate Passover or Purim.. infact I would be suspicious if they did, and probabbly complain about them mocking it.
I celebrate American holidays... like Thankgsgiving, Memorial day, Labor day, Presidents day, Superbowl Sunday. I actually Mourn on Memorial day because holidays are a serious thing not to be mocked and tossed as a free day off.
So take your accusations of 'intollerance' and shove it...

And some people still celebrate St. Patricks day and St. Valentines day as religious holidays (I've met them)... (although I just read that the catholic church has stopped honouring St. Valentine for some reason)

Except those holidays have no religious significance, so I'm wondering how they entered the argument. You're supercooltolerant for celebrating:
Pilgrims having dinner and giving thanks for not dying.
A holiday to remember our fallen military members, and the sacrifices they made.
A holiday to celebrate working people.
A... wait, superbowl sunday isn't a holiday, a bunch of guys get together and play sports, while we live vicariously through them and eat junkfood.
None of those are religious, and so don't fall within the context of the discussion, which if you all remember, turned into being about not celebrating holidays with a religious origin.
This really is turning pointless...
