Shorlen said they were american holidays, and its intollerant of me to not celebrate american holidays... or something like that...
I was just pointing out that there are many american holidays that are not religious based.
I am still not quite sure whats so intollerant about not celebrating holidays from a religion that I'm not a part of....
I can understand someone not understanding why I wouldn't celebrate those holidays wihtout knowing my views on holidays or knowing my history... however to Jump to the conclusion that I'm being inotlerate because me and my fiance don't like having another religion's holiday shoved down our face... Thats straight out Prejudice.

You guys are so picky...
oh and in refrence to the quote below, it's not Christian, it's Catholic
Catholics are Christians though, they're just one denomination.

You are, by far, the most intolerant person I have met in all of the Lusternia playerbase. This surprises me, given your religion - I always thought christians were the stereotypically intolerant ones. My jewish friends and family are never like this.
I still fail to see where Shorlen viciously attacked you for not celebrating Superbowl Sunday. In fact, he was just calling you intolerant in general, not for not celebrating holidays. You jumped to that conclusion yourself.
Unless Shorlen was actually saying, "You suck for not celebrating everyone else's holidays." I'm 99.9% sure that's not what he meant.

Daganev: "My non-logic makes sense!"
Isn't this topic -actually- about what you did on Valentine's day? We should all know better than to discuss religion, especially when not all parties are willing to read what people posted, and then make sense when they reply.

After skimming other conversation, I've decided to return to the purpose of the thread and answer with what I did on Valentine's Day.
I spent 15 hrs, 30 minutes and 40 seconds on Lusternia.

Yes, yes, yes. I hate having to argue with people about this silly crap. Saying Catholics aren't Christians is like saying Wiccans aren't pagans. Just because there was a schism in the church doesn't make the other half an entirely different religion.
laith2006-02-15 20:04:47
*claps* very nice
Unknown2006-02-15 20:42:54
*is catholic* So? I didn't celebrate any religious stuff on St. Valentine's. I knew the story of the saint but it's not a holiday, according to the Church. That means she isn't an important saint. And of course, we're christians, and I recognize a baptist, protestant, orthodox or whatever as my brother or sister. Actually, I recognize everybody as them!
But anyways, we have gone so off-topic.

I went to a party at about eight, and didn't get back to my place until about three.

Many american holidays were born of Chrstian ones because America was created due to Christianity. It is our past, even it it is not the religion many of us follow.
So umm Richter? I'm making stuff up?
I still think the Daily Show skit was hillarious.
@valsum: Not sure if that was a typo, but Saint Valentine was a "he" not a "she"

I went to school got lotsa chocolate from my teachers because theyre awesome and all the art teachers like to spoil the students with candy when they can. Afterwards I went to a Stage Crew meeting (We do all the technical backstage stuff in drama for those who dont know, examples being lighting and sound) sood around doing nothing because the teacher who has something against me was taking up the space for a play that were taking to the Sears festival of Drama and got in an arguement with the teacher who heads the Stage Crew over it which Im not going into because its stupid. Spent the next half an hour bawling my eyes out and arguing with Narid over how lifes unfair and I need to get used to it. He came over to my house to comfort me and he gave me smarties, chocolate in otherwords with a candy shell. I came on here quick and bought a white rose for Yendos and then when Narid later left his brother came to the door and gave him a package which he in turn gave to me and it turned out to be a white rose

My friends and I spiked pink lemonade with rum and drank. Well the ones who didn't have dates. Which was everyone but one (some have boyfriends at other schools). Then we watched Old School and I fell asleep, then we had some drama and I fell asleep again. I basically slept from 10pm-9am. It was pretty dull.
The girls on my floor did give each other valentines though.
I guess I should mention it was my big plan to boycott Valentine's day and wear black, but my friends talked me out of it and I ended up wearing a pink shirt :/

I handed out hello kitty valentine's day cards to all of my friends and my favorite teachers.
Ohm.. This girl I met agreed to be my roommate in college so I'm all excited, because we are also planning to go to an anime convention dressed up as Nall and Ruby from Lunar. The other girls are dressing up as the other characters so it's gonna be great if I get to go.
Someone very special to me made me a picture on photoshop and sent it to me so I would get it when I woke up.
and other things I can't talk about because they are secret, but they aren't dirty, just really really good. Yayy.

Daga: yes it was a typo.
And wow, there are people who actually had a nice valentine's day and did other things than the typical 'romantic dinner' and whatnot.

So wait...
Does anyone still practice St. Valentine's Day as a Christian holiday? It most certainly is not practiced in my town (which is a college town with like 50,000 bazillion churches)... I'm not Christian, but a lot of my extended family is and well, I've never heard of anyone doing any Christian-wise for it.

My family (extended and immediate) are pretty much all Christian except me, and the half of them that remembered it was Valentine's day certainly didn't do anything religious for it.
(They're all R.C in case that matters, I never really cared.)
Narsrim2006-02-16 15:09:13
Well, my extended family (and I have most people beat, my mom is the youngest of -16- children), is ALL hardcore Christian (primarily Protestant) and not a single one of them does anything religion-related on Valentine's day... I honestly never even thought of it as a Christian holiday until Daganev pointed it out

she just had two I wanted a lot of little feet running around the house, and, an older brother... but... seeing how I'm the first born, they can't give that to me

Is this actually really common and I just come from a really weird area, or are Narsrim and Laith the flukey ones here?
Narsrim2006-02-16 15:33:11
It isn't common. My mother had 2 children for a reason
