I have done so before, it enterily depends on how hard your oppent hits, normal damage attacks do nothing fancy, hard damage attacks are the ones to look out for. How much ego did Vesar have, did he use one of his psionic skills (ironwill I think)? Howmuch does he sip for, did he beautiy up, was it a watery environment? Was he using an astrology sphere?

People did hit hard several times. No idea on the ego. No idea on psionics. No idea on sipping, but someone of his level and race could answer that. No idea on beauty. No it wasn't watery. I doubt he was using astrology, I don't think it was a good time.

So, wait, Laetitia balance is every 4 seconds, right? So, about 800 ego every 4 seconds with standard int? That's as much as a sit for me, if not more. That's double the ego regen of a Commune member.
Also, Master Viscanti have Populus and Netzach - they have 14 charisma, not 12. 14 is above the 'it doesn't even matter anymore' mark, where you influence faster than denizens can react. As was said in other threads, it's trivial to get a +2. That puts you well above the danger zone for being hit back in an influence. Doesn't matter that much after that point. Hmm, I wonder if there is something in psionics that would deflect ego damage somehow? All the best influencers from Celest that I had trouble with - Vesar, Collvan and Sipelus (only once), are aquamancers.

My suggestion is that if you are engaged in a debate, you shouldn't be able to divert period - even with full ego. Once the debate ends either through someone get shattered or time passes, the ability to divert returns.

Might work, but then you get people running on the first hit, hiding until the debate is over, then rushing badn and diverting before anyone can start another one. Still does help alleviate the problem with Divert, just not with holding down people to debate them.
EDIT: The one thing that worries me about this is that doesn't this mean whoever has the most people influencing automatically wins? Just don't want it to boil down to that
EDIT EDIT: Oh, I guess that's not true, as the people need to be good to count. The 'bad' ones can just be shattered, and they are out of the picture.

Well if people are running they can't divert so problem fixed. When they come back, you can debate them once and bam. No more diverting.

They only need to divert once to totally reset it though, so they can just run away, run in, divert, run away for a minute, come back, divert.

I agree with this system, since you all seem to only have problems with divert, and it stops other forms of 'abuse'.

not exactly when I chant myself I also need to skip an influence session, getting hit again (You'll notice I rarely run with a chanter).

but in 10 seconds you would recover 2000+ ego in the same time anyone bonded with moon or stag (keeping in mind the warriors with hunting now) would have recovered 100 if there are three people available to recast light after dawn
Also i thought bromides were available at bobs, at the least some potions are available there so it would be very hard for us to put a total halt on all potions available to cities
