The Faeling help file doesn't say anything about shards or souls... But since you say so, okay. I'll tell eveyone it's okay to kill you because you dont' have a soul!
THe walker has grown violent.

Shards aren't souls, I didn't think.
Unknown2006-02-18 16:34:48
Shards are just little bits of essence that the Vernal God left behind...

As far as we know the centaurs don't have shards, but they do have spirits that rise up and do stuff.

That is... SOOOO cool!
EDIT: Woot! Apprentice level posting!!! Yay me!

I think the shards are what lets any Lusternian ascend to goddhood, eventually. So, if you argue that Viscanti and Faelings don't have those shards, then there can't be any Viscanti or Faeling Titans or Demigods or Avatars. Unless they DID get the shards from their shardified ancestors, then they could ascend....
Laysus2006-02-18 16:52:58
Nymphs wouldn't work, given that we already have them as ents
Unknown2006-02-18 17:10:43
Maybe a race of Dryads, or something
Diamondais2006-02-18 17:13:38
Dyrads are still Fae.
You could say that the Faeling/Viscanti shard debate is a matter of opinion, it seems logical -because- of what they are descended from that they have shards.

Hmm.... I guess
I think it would be pretty cool, though, if an Elfen takes the Night path, they turn into a Dark Elfen. No stat changes, or anything, but maybe some added abilities. Being able to summon darkness in the room, or something, making everyone blind while in that room.

Viravain told us wee little Shadow Faelings that we didn't have shards.

THe walker has grown violent.
Walkers are allowed to kill Gorgogs because they don't have a soul, and aren't half-formed. Gnomes are a grey area that's best left alone. Things from crunkvindia are on the 'leave alone until further notice' category. So yeah, if Faelings don't count as fae because they're mortals, and they don't count as mortals because they don't have a soul, it's okay to kill faelings. However, according to Elcyrion, every shard has the pure essence of one particular race, even Viscanti and Faeling. So we don't kill them, no matter how annoying the little butterfly impersonators are.
Unknown2006-02-18 18:16:39
Shards != soul.
Faelings are not descended from an Elder God. Not even derivative. They have souls and spirits, just not Elder God shards.
Maybe they can never be Vernals, who knows?

Go kill centaurs and see what happens.

Where the hell do Centaurs come from, anyway? Are they Fae? Was there a Centaur Elder god? Centaurs fit in the 'They're not really mortals, or fae, or Cosmic beings, but if you kill them Serenwilde will kick the snot out of you and so we do not condone their killing.' category.
Laysus2006-02-18 20:13:36
It would be nice to have more variations of faelings, to account for differing ancestry. Like nymph-descendants would have more charisma, leprechauns dexterity, etc.
Arix2006-02-18 22:44:19
Instead of making a new race, I would instead give Dracnari and Viscanti the ability to fly.
