Well, it appears that paintings exhibited in two ships work regardless of where those two ships actually are, though I suspect this is an oversight.
When that is fixed, would it be possible to add a new artifact?
Resonance Module Miniature (100 credits)
- Creates a resonance ring within an aethership or manse, allowing transport to and from one other ship. Two of these artifacts are required for function, one on each vessel.
- Go to an empty room in each aethermanse and ACTIVATE. Then TUNE RING TO . This effect will last for five years.
- You can only have one resonance ring on an aethership or manse.
Once there is a module on both vessels, you tune them towards each other. Then two-way transport is possible while the ships are on the same plane, via ENTER RING, costing the ship 5 power each time.
The one on each ship limitation means that it really can't be used to shortcut the necessity of ship travel, but it can link a ship to a manse (such as Richter's ship to Deepnight), and cut down on some of the angst of being stuck in aetherspace, or finding crew.
Edit: Could also make it 20/50 power from the ship, which would mean it can be used only rarely.

I can see it now:
Yendos: Very funny Arix, now beam over my clothes.

I'd have to make a character called Scotty just to make people say 'Beam me up, Scotty.'

Noooooooooo. *watches as l337 Lusternian RP goes out the window*

I dislike. I can see it now:
Help my ship is being raided by aether pirates!

Join us Richter. Resistance is futile.

Have it be one person at a time, and distance being relative to time it takes to travel?
Narsrim2006-02-21 20:29:07
How would you possibly code "distance" into this?
I mean it would be like saying how far is Avechna from the Astrosphere of Cancer.

Richter2006-02-21 20:35:02
Assign various places a point/distance value. The cities/communes/peak could be 1, further out could be 2, ethereal 3, and so on. Thus from earth to cancer it would be 6-4=2, so it would be 2*T, where T= the initial length of time. If you were on astral, to prime, it would be 6-1=5, taking much longer.
Narsrim2006-02-21 20:35:45
so what about in aetherspace itself?
Richter2006-02-21 20:41:54
Well, that was just kind of a very basic value system, they could do it if you map aetherspace like a circle, with the radius being the black space in the middle, and it goes outwards.

At what point have we left the realm of serious and do we say: this sounds a like a butt load of coding for something so... not important?

Meh, I dunno, how many of my ideas have been implemented? Zero? I have 17 pages of topics I've started, many of them ideas, so I don't have much hope for anything I say being taken seriously.

Awww... they fixed paintings.
Regarding what else has been said - I was suggesting that every person that goes from one ship to the other drains 20 (?) energy from both vessels (or just one if the other is a manse). If you beam an army, you're going to have no power left for maneuvres, etc. I'm assuming if the other ship has static up, or anything that disrupts communication, it doesn't work.
Hell, make it so it only works when you're docked, and it would still be useful.
No complicated distance function is necessary.

Estarra said Synchronization would have something to do with transfering crews between ships.
Aiakon2006-02-22 14:51:46
To be perfectly honest, I'd prefer to enchant two paintings than pay 100 credits.
ferlas2006-02-22 17:14:00
Screw all the complicated stuff, You have a little mob in the beam room this mob dies in two hits, without this mob no one can beam as he is the physo babble something that makes it work, it takes 20 seconds to beam one person in(you cant follow a beam up target after a beam up it makes him lose his entourage), to beam one person in a person must meditate at the mob while on the ship, this will trigger a message like a normal summoning on the intended target, you are only able to beam allies to your ship, your allied target moving stops the beam up and you have to start again.
Distance *pish* keep it simple sweety that allows you to pull people from mansces/ships to your ship and you aint going to be beaming up an army due to the length it takes and secondly the fact that the pirates can wack your mob screwing up your teleporter for half an hour until he/the ship repops.
