I think there should be an option to be a single parent, because... that's how it goes sometimes, and that's how some characters like it. I mean, there could be someone out there who doesn't want a mom, or doesn't want a dad... but would rather just have one
ninja.gif (even though I love both of mine! hi mommy and daddy! wub.gif )

but, you see what I'm sayin? closedeyes.gif Some families are just better when it's just the dad and his daughter or a mother and her daughter or... well.. you get the point... what do you think?

I like it. I also think there should be an option for being born into a family and an option for being adopted into it. They'd work the same way, just when you honors someone it would read 'She was adopted into the family of Somefamily' instead of 'She was born into the family of Somefamily.'

I tried to talk to the guides about single parenting a while back, but they were like "no" blink.gif sad.gif

That might be because guides are newbie assistants, not game admins.

I would have said that there's plenty of RP space for single parenting. I had my first child long before I came through the portal of fate... now.. what if I'd had it with someone the Fates hadn't chosen for greatness.. or indeed someone who's name I then forgot and couldn't remember? It would just be irritating to see bloodlines with one male parent who clearly inseminated his paramour long after entering the realms. How can you not know who the Mother is - she has to be pregnant and give birth. Now.. not knowing who the Father is is fair enough.. but you'll just have to find a female parent who's prepared to RP being a slut...

Note, from all I've gathered so far, same sex couples can 'technically' have children.
Richter2006-02-22 18:49:55
This would be awesome, because then Murphy could add his kids to my family.
Soll2006-02-22 18:54:49
This'd definitely be useful for Soll, I'll add. smile.gif I love this idea.

I imagine the reason you cannot likely has to do with the great family thing because this would in a sense make it a whole lot easier to build up a family.
Murphy2006-02-22 23:36:49
Myabe you have to get a licesne from the fates which takes the same time as a marriage proposal, should keep it somewhat in line.

Diamondais2006-02-23 00:22:07
Nice idea but it should only be available to those whove reached a certain level, or have to buy it for a very steep price. There are ways that this could probably be done, but would probably have to come up for serious ways of keeping the average joe from doing this and creating a Great Family.
laith2006-02-24 16:09:11
aye.

And, they can't argue with me about how someone can't have a single parent because everyone has a different path that they have to travel, right? Some are meant to travel the path of having a single parent happy.gif

*snigger* yes, all goes according to plan.... *rubs hands together evilly*

Its very simple to be a single parent.. find someone to marry, have the kid, then divorce.

I don't think Lusternia has artificial incemination quite yet, otherwise Rowena could have gotten past Viravain's scrutiny without drugging a fae.
Verithrax2006-02-25 04:58:43
Maybe require two people to have a child, but only one of them has to actually adopt and is listed as parent? The truth is, Lusternia's family system is deliberately vague and unrealistic. The reason is that it give you a lot of freedom to roleplay whatever happens.

I like this idea. Also with the adopting idea, they should be able to be married and adopted at the same time, if you ask me. Because it can happen at a later date, but if being born into the family, that should still stay the way it is--you can't have a different family.

I'm thinking the word "suicide" fits more.

meh, that kinda takes away the point tongue.gif I want people to be able to get a kid without having to get married and then divorce because:

1- if you divorce, it goes on your permanent record
2- one should not have to have a spouce in order to raise a child

also, I've been thinking about requirements:

1- The adoptor would have to have a certain amount of gold and be pretty far within their trade
2- requirements of marriage should apply also (playing time)
3- should also be at a certain circle

I will not name the "certains" yet, as I have not given too much thought to them yet, and I must discuss them with the fates first. tongue.gif
