It doesn't have the stun until you trans combat.

Still with trans combat im probally better off unwielding my dagger and just parrying with my shield for the stun it seems then.

Yeah, stun > minor damage from riposting, unless you're a warrior and have weapons that do good damage from the riposting (and you wouldn't be wielding a shield anyway as a warrior...)
