How is that at all different from any other thing said on a channel? Did you even think when you posted that? *scratch*
Well, I got ninja'ed on that one, but I do so love when your scathing sarcasm is directed at someone other than myself.
Rhysus2006-02-24 23:20:11
Because people don't think, they just troll forums and react with no thought input.

By the way, person wasn't just one person, it was meant to represent a whole bunch of different people laughing.
So... what if a whole bunch of people are talking?
Manjanaia2006-02-24 23:23:47
Out of interest Rhysus... do you have friends?
I've already said I supported this... I was just trying to think of some reason. A whole bunch of people talking about something is less annoying then seeing 'soandso laughsetc' over and over. Was just a thought. Jesus some of you need to crawl out of your own arses.

There's a damnsight more thought in my posts than in Rhysus's ego trips.

We can tell, truly. *pet* Stick to it.

All I did was try and think of some reason for the admins not implementing this already, and said that, because if there's a laugh on channel emote, that situation could happen, and a lot of people don't like spam. How is that trolling without thought? And was it worth the attack?

I'm guessing the fact that you could do it multiple times was not the issue. If we think about it, we realize that you could just talk multiple times. Sure, eveyone could laugh after a joke, but currently people can, and will, just say "haha", "that's funny", or something similar. He was commenting on the fact that the post you made was made null with just a bit of thinking. People like he and I tend to make smartass comments when someone posts something we don't think makes sense, or wasn't thought through. He's just less tolerant than most; don't let it get to you.

We allready live with the "nothing matters but Glomdoring" spam.. and Viravain =started- that one.
Anways, I think the reason its not coded yet is because that requires the creation a new skill, and the recreation of hundreds of emotes.
Its not that simple to just throw in a new skill called ACT and to rewrite all those emotes... However, I think they should really think about implementing this. Especially since Lusternia (unlike the other games) has a nice IC explanation of Aetherwaves.

This sounds like an absolutely wonderful idea, something I'd truly love to see.
I've always been a bit aprehensive about doing things like, *laughs* or *chuckles softly* along the aetherwaves, it always had that... I'm not sure, just this peculiar feeling like I shouldn't be doing ANY sort of emotes in the aether.
As for why it hasn't already been done yet, I can only agree with the sentiment that really, it'd take awhile to do.
As for the spam argument, I'm not sure if that'd really present much of a block to a concept like this - Like Dag said, in Glom we already have the "Glory be to Glomdoring" stuff going on (Which I love XD). From my brief time in Serenwilde, people are always talking across the Aethers ANYway, so I doubt that this would really show us much of a spam increase. It would, however, add some nice depth to our dear aethers.

Nothing can be worse then then things we already have.
I don't know if they trigger it on log in, or have an alias set up to spam every single channel a fraction of a second... but I'm sure you know the type...

I'd prefer that you could colour your words, rather than pure emotes. Much like the 'says with a smile' sort of thing.
Channels are for communication only, I'd prefer that that emphasis is maintained and implicitly encouraged. While you might personally laugh at a joke, at the moment they would receive at most a few spoken 'hehs'. With this change, you don't actually need to say anything to colour the 'conversation' with reactions.
While laughing alone is not so bad, when there are also going to be things like sobbing, chuckling, guffawing, giggling, crying, screaming, ranting, swearing, cursing, flirting, snickering, babbling, snorting, sneezing, etc... I suspect listening to organizational channels could become as bad as standing at one of the nexii rooms.
Just my opinion, no need to engage defensive tactic alpha-bravo (aka. belittle enemy's character) on my behalf.

Anyway, this would be nice. I don't know the specifications of Rapture, but it doesn't seem like it'd be much of a hassle. I could be very wrong, however. With countless bugs and other development pieces always in the works I could see this taking a side trip in someone's notebook though.

Actually I agree with Avaer, I think being able to say something while indicating the emotion behind it is preferable to actually emoting.
In addition, I'd say the emotions should be limited to ones that come through in your voice. I assume that talking onto an Aetherwave is like talking into a walkie-talkie in that you can choose whether to project your voice onto the channels or not. So if one were to sneeze or cough or something then they'd probably choose to not send it onto the wave.

Time? Effort? Complexity of the verb "CT" ?
After seeing the whole Aethership plonk into existance I'm quite happy to accept Roark's been a busy busy chap for the few months and therefore didn't implement channel emotes.
Stop thinking the world is full of conspiracies. After all, people did ask for namechange logging into city/guild logs and that did happen eventually, no?

I like this... up to a point.
Expressions of your own emotion/sounds across the aether are GREAT. However, I don't think they should be directable at other people. After all, if you hear someone laugh in the next room.. you cannot know that they are specifically laughing at another (without context.. in which case it shouldn't be necessary to direct the emote). I particularly don't want to see Ashteru's act slap.. sorry Ashteru.. It just really doesn't fit with my conceptions of the aetherways.

Damn. Manjanala nerfs me, AND he expresses it better than I could.

This is a nice idea, but I like what someone pointed out a few responces back about the channel spam. It's spammy enough in Glomdoring when someone greets the commune in the proper way.

There's no need to rewrite a bunch of emotes. You just add a field onto the pre-existing ones, that is created if the aemote flag is set on that emote. From there it's a matter of writing a single line for any new emote you want, rather than the five lines it takes for any given emote right now.
I agree that these should not be targetable in any way.
And creating a new verb really isn't all that difficult.
