I think it'd be spiffy if we could start firing aethership turrets at cities/planes/whatever while we were flying above the docks there. The bolts hitting random rooms, damaging everyone in the room fairly significantly.
Then you'd all have to rush to your own aethership to go out and fight off the attacker.

Ok, lets say I'm one of the million people who A.) Don't own an aethership, or B.) Don't have permission to use one.
We would be sitting there while an attacker from above spits down on us without us being able to do a thing.

Narsrim2006-03-01 21:21:24
How would this work? Bear in mind the aetherways are like a plane between planes. Thus, you'd have to tear holes in the planar fabric to fire into the prime material.
Richter2006-03-01 21:28:47
He said only from the dock though.
Unknown2006-03-01 21:40:23
But the docks are still in Aetherspace, no?
Richter2006-03-01 21:43:55
Not sure actually.
Penelope2006-03-01 23:29:15
I don't like this idea. It'll just be another way for griefers to raid an organization. They'll only do this when no one's around that can fight back like they do when they walk into Glomdoring when none of the fighters are around to oppose them. I can just see someone saying "Alright...all of Glomdoring's Aethership people are gone. Let's go raid!"
Richter2006-03-01 23:29:40
If I can burn down Serenwilde, I'm all for it.

What if we could use commodities and gold/Power to build anti-Aether turrets to shoot down the enemy space- I mean aetherships... Oh, wait, this is Lusternia, right? Not Masters of Orion.
Unknown2006-03-02 00:29:29
I like the idea, but I don't think theres a good way to do it without making it an easy griefing method like Penelope explained.
Yrael2006-03-02 00:46:46
Yay, we're turning this into Star Wars! Use the Force, Lisaera!
Richter2006-03-02 00:59:25
Noooo, keep it original. I suppose this means I should remove any personalities that say "I've got a bad feeling about this"...

If that was the only affect, causing players standing outside near the dock to take occasional health hits, that wouldn't be so bad. Easily blocked by heading underground or (I assume) shielding, and not really hurting the organization as a whole.
Also assuming that everyone could launch the little one-person pods that Estarra mentioned in another thread, so owning an aethership to defend isn't necessary.
It's a nice thought, but I think there will eventually be better ways of inciting aether combat.

Some people are
Too easy to grief people from what Im getting from it. But I may be reading too much into it.
Verithrax2006-03-02 02:00:20
Nah, ships saying "I've got a bad feeling about this," "Engage," "Make it so," and "Don't Panic" stay because they're funny. Dying horribly to orbital bombardment isn't.
Diamondais2006-03-02 02:07:33
I want to see a ship that sounds like Marvin!! (The name of the robot is something like that)
Verithrax2006-03-02 03:51:51
Marvin, the paranoid android.
(Ship) Marvin, the Paranoid Aethership says, "I'm so depressed. Welcome to the command chair, Ialie."
(Ship) Marvin, the Paranoid Aethership says, "Why bother? Nothing's worth getting involved in. Welcome to the empath grid, Invid."
(Ship) Marvin, the Paranoid Aethership says, "Life? Don't talk to me about life. Welcome to the combat turret, Verithrax."

Haha is that real?
Verithrax2006-03-02 03:58:48
Yes, I just bought 1000 credits, sold them all, and spent them on a blatantly OOCly-named and -themed Aethership. I'm craaaazy like that.
