Has anyone had the thought of seeing a Tribe of Care bears raid and slaughter a tribe of inncent reptile things. That would be insane. Or maybe conquring the galaxy with carebears.
Or ripping a carebear to shreds.
Another thing though. I find the creatures mainly revolve around reptiles and amphibian, where are the mammals?
Edit: I hate when that happens.

Uh... You mean Care Bears? They do have a lot of survival value, y'know, much like all horribly violent predators.

Well, I think the thing with this is that there won't be any point accessing the previous levels of development once you've gotten into the sandbox area, which makes it all seem rather pointless.
(I think that's sort of on the same lines as what Amaru's saying, but eh.)

You should be okay with that processor (If it's what I think it is) and that amount of RAM (The Recommended for Oblivion I think is 1GB so you're well over). Your video card seems good enough too so I wouldn't worry about it.

Technology finds new and innovative ways to screw itself when I'm around. Trust me. Even Luste systems.
Laysus2006-03-03 03:33:29
Place bets on how Yrael's computer'll screw up!
Mine's that his monitor won't be able to handle the frame rate when he tries to run it, and die.

That's kind of how all the sim games worked... The more resources and the more succesfull you were in managing things, the more freedom you had to do things. (For example, very succesful SimCities get expensive theme parks and castles, rich Sims can afford expensive appliances and furniture.) The first time you play the game, you'll have to focus on making a single creature fit for survival. When you get to the sandbox mode, you can make weird and fantastic things that have no survival value whatsoever, and mess around with whole ecologies. Like all Sim games, it's a big sandbox toy, not a goal-oriented game.
Oh, and I bet that Yrael's video card cooler and his mother board cooler will be pointing at each other and overheat.
Shiri2006-03-03 04:00:09
But it's different here, because you're not missing out on micromanaging the smaller parts of the city or whatever, you're missing out what's essentially several different games.

Fable was good (I've only played the expanded version), but way too short. I despised the area system, it was too disjointed, and there were terribly long load times, even on the 360. Also, the whole "you can't go off the path" thing ticked me off. Fable was hyped up, and it was good, but it never met the standards people expected.
Boo, no it wasnt it had no story about about as much interaction as a washed up whale.
This spore looks pretty good though at every stage, Your problem with the city not looking like it should have a space ship amaru is a bit off, remember the city he blew up? That looked pretty futureristic or what ever to me with lazers and what not. He just got the space ship a lot earlier than he should have.
Looks nice though
Saran2006-03-03 11:39:49
Remember that the way you develop your creatures affects their future, I quite liked the inclusion of the second city on the first planet as it shows what potentially could happen if you choose one strategy over another.

OOOh the game does look pretty interesting, the starting bit seems really fun and new the tribal and the city bit seems like a bit of a copy of the sim though, which was good just nothing original, it’ll still be fun though, the enemy cities seem a bit hard to defend against though if you want to make a peaceful city, I suppose that’s just part of the fun of the game though.
I agree with amaru though im not to keep on the spaceship just popping up out of now where, Id love it if you had to build it like that old sid mersomething civilizations space project part.
You can build it, he said it himself, but if your a lazy bum, then you can just buy things that other players made. So in the end players still have to make it.
Saran2006-03-03 14:22:34
Buy stuff that other people made would be interesting but when I actually play the sims I always like making my own stuff.

I'm still wondering though about the whole underwater creature thing, and how long it takes to go from bacteria to Eukarote ( Spelling? ).
Seriously The guy was just skipping ahead in the video , but how long does it truly take?

EDIT : I just realised how much of a n00b I sounded like. Okay to rephrase it:
Do any of you have sugesstions concerning graphics cards , RAM upgrades etc, that would allow my PC to handle the powers of Spore, and hopefully keep those suggestions within the $1000, cash pan?

It's a good idea. Main problems summarised:
1) The races/civilisations don't look developed enough when they have spaceships, to the point where they'd actually have spaceships
2) Graphics a bit cartoony. May suit sims, this should have a more serious tone
3) When you've a galactic empire, with 50 planets under your control - what kind of management does it take? If lots, is it manageable? If little, what's the point of the game? Does it have durability beyond novelty?
Somehow I think judging the game based on a production video intended only to sell the product's general concept from a year ago is a bit shortsighted.
Unknown2006-03-03 17:40:38
When is this game aimed for realese? Early 2007 ?
Unknown2006-03-03 19:02:55
November of this year, I think I saw somewhere.

2. I think the worlds may lose the affect if the graphics are made more sharp and serious. The creatures may not fit and the guy said that he wanted them to look like playthings or something.
Au contraire; I think the graphics would retain their wow-factor. It may even improve the 'awe' of seeing such visuals, especially as I think the main attraction is the detail and the smooth way the 3D engine is handled.
Rhysus - I'm commenting on what was in the video. I didn't say the game will be lame. In fact I look forward to buying a new PC when it comes out.
The differing views on the aesthetics may just boil down to personal preference. I like serious games - I'd like my galactic empire to feel vast, realistic, gritty, epic. More Star Wars than Men in Black.
But as I mentioned earlier, this may be down to my gut reaction when I see planets and spaceships, which is to be brought joltingly backwards to a past of hours and hours of Fragile Allegiance playing. And that game was as hardcore as space gets.
